Chapter 75
Chapter 075 Look at My Power!
Five people, clearly in three different places, encountered ghosts at the same time. If it weren’t for the effect of reduced sanity, it would mean that the ghost had become serious.
Ling Mo was now wondering if this meant the Dungeon had entered its final task—just like the high-difficulty phases at the end of past Dungeons.
Although the change seemed to have been triggered by the fat guy, if we were to understand it by the usual game mechanics, usually in cooperative games, players form random teams. Therefore, setting up a scenario where one person’s mistake results in the entire team’s demise clearly isn’t suitable; even if such a challenge exists, games typically provide a clear way to save the situation quickly, no matter how difficult it is—the key is to have a way out.
If difficulty was set just for the sake of it, that would be the lowest form of game design, unnecessary in this game.
So, we could say that the fat guy’s actions had pushed the Dungeon’s storyline into its final phase.
But they seemed to still be making no progress.
The Villa was still in a chaotic state, and they couldn’t find a way out; even fleeing was just running around blindly inside.
Plus, with the Copper Coins basically losing their effectiveness, their situation had become even more dangerous.
It was uncertain if the others were even alive.
The two had been running until they reached the restaurant, confirming that nothing unusual had appeared around them. Ling Mo paused: “Let’s rest here for a bit; I’ll see if I can contact the others.”
“Okay.” Xia Xinyan nodded, alertly scanning their surroundings.
She planned to go with the flow.
Since she had already been swept away, she might as well let it continue.
Perfect timing for a breather.
Ling Mo didn’t notice his girlfriend’s sudden laziness, as he successfully contacted Brother Haonan: “Brother Haonan? Are you okay?”
“I have issues! I have way too many issues!” Brother Haonan’s tone was shaky. “I don’t want to play anymore! That ghost is too terrifying! She’s all up in my face! Do you know how scary that is? She’s literally in my face! I’ve never been this close with my girlfriend!”
“…Where are you now?” Ling Mo changed the subject.
“I don’t know! I escaped and now I’m in some study. Not sure if it’s the second or first floor. I can’t go back; the space is cut off. Sorry, can’t relay messages for you… Old Ling, to be honest, I want to drop this game. Can you tell Wen about it later?”
“Don’t!” Ling Mo immediately tried to dissuade him. “We’re almost done with this Dungeon! If you quit now, you’d have gone through all this fear for nothing! Just hang in there; we’re about to clear it!”
“But how are we supposed to clear it now? The command center is gone.”
Ling Mo thought for a moment and asked, “Do you remember what the other type of ghost is? What are its weaknesses?”
“I remember! The other one is a malevolent spirit. Its weakness is… a girl’s hair. Burning a girl’s hair within her territory causes her extreme pain but also makes her more enraged.”
“A girl’s… hair?” Ling Mo was taken aback.
“Mo Mo.” Xia Xinyan’s voice suddenly brought him back to reality. Turning to look ahead, the figure of the female ghost reappeared before them.
Ling Mo instinctively shielded Xia Xinyan, “Be careful.”
However, this time Xia Xinyan pushed him aside: “Wait, I’ll try her weakness.”
Girl’s hair… she has plenty.
Quickly pulling out a dagger and lighter from her spatial watch, she quickly sliced off a lock of her bangs and, looking at the female ghost, lit the hair on fire.
The hair ignited instantly, burning much faster than usual and releasing a puff of purple smoke that emitted a remarkably pleasant scent.
But it made the female ghost emit a high-pitched scream before shattering like glass and disappearing, while simultaneously the surrounding environment became significantly more comfortable.
Ling Mo felt invigorated: “It really works!”
But Xia Xinyan was not affected by the scene in front of her; she dashed over and opened the restaurant’s big door.
Outside was the corridor that had not appeared since the spatial chaos began.
Just as I thought! That unspeakable feeling they had sensed earlier was the ghost wall being broken!
Ling Mo followed closely behind: “Is the spatial anomaly restoring?”
“Now’s our chance, let’s go.” Xia Xinyan, just like he had done earlier, took his hand and pulled him as they sprinted into the corridor.
However, just a few steps in, the flashlight suddenly dimmed and then flickered back to life, bringing them back to the original bedroom, where the figure of the female ghost slowly reemerged in the center.
Xia Xinyan paused briefly.
The effect was shorter than she had anticipated.
That lock of long hair had only kept them safe for less than half a minute.
Pressing her lips together, she suddenly grabbed her long hair and cut it all off at the nape, transforming her sleek black hair into shoulder-length, leaving Ling Mo stunned.
In the next moment, she set her entire remaining long hair ablaze.
The long hair again released the same purple smoke, immediately causing the female ghost to let out a piercing scream and dissolve into white mist.
As long as her hair was still burning, Xia Xinyan dashed towards the door: “Let’s go!”
Ling Mo gritted his teeth and hurried to follow her.
This time the outside situation was somewhat normal, but they were teleported to the second floor. It took them some time to find the stairs down. By now, the hair had burned halfway; although Xia Xinyan was holding it, the flames didn’t feel hot at all—only warm.
It’s worth mentioning that as they rounded the corner on the first floor, they just happened to run into the fat guy and Wen.
The two parties finally reunited, and the fat guy was startled: “Ahhh… oh it’s you guys, damn, you scared me to death!”
“What’s there to be afraid of? Have you ever seen a ghost walking on the ground?” Ling Mo wasn’t going to waste time with them. “Hurry up, Xinyan can’t hold out much longer.”
The fat guy glanced at Xia Xinyan. Although he didn’t grasp the situation, he and Wen followed them as they ran: “My sanity is gone; now the whole world looks wrong. From my perspective, we’re running inside some monster’s intestines; damn, I can’t take it anymore.”
“My sanity is about the same,” Wen also looked grim, “By the way, where’s Haonan? You guys…”
“Ahhh—!” A figure suddenly burst out from the room ahead; it was Brother Haonan. He rolled awkwardly on the ground before spotting the four of them, scrambling to his feet like he had seen his family: “Run! I can’t hold on!”
But just as they saw the symbol of hope at the end of the corridor, a sudden darkness enveloped them again, followed by a loud crash that shook the ground. When the flashlight flickered back on, they found the corridor ahead blocked by a fallen ceiling panel.
Meanwhile, the figure of the female ghost appeared behind them, slowly moving closer to everyone.
Xia Xinyan looked at the hair still burning in her hand, her expression changed slightly.
It stopped working?
“What the hell! What’s going on?” The fat guy was startled again, shouting, “I saw a wall of flesh appear ahead! Is that real or just an illusion?”
“Of course it’s real; otherwise, why would we stop?” Wen’s tone was equally unstable. “What do we do? Is there another way out?”
“There isn’t; this is the only proper way.” Brother Haonan was probably the most frightened one. “What’s going on? Burnt hair isn’t working anymore?”
“Not necessarily,” Xia Xinyan suddenly spoke in a serious tone, “What are your abilities? Do any of you have a way to destroy this wall?”
“Huh? Abilities? I can do it!” Brother Haonan instantly perked up, emboldened as he shouted, “Watch me transform!”
As soon as he finished speaking, his muscles bulged, and his shirt ripped apart into countless shreds, transforming him into a two-and-a-half-meter tall… yellow giant in just a few seconds.
If his skin turned green, it would be even more on point.
“Ahhh! Look at my power—!!” He roared, raising his arm, thicker than an average person’s thigh, and smashed it down onto the stone slab in front of him.
Boom—!
It let out a muffled clang.
Dust flew everywhere.
