Chapter 55

Chapter 055 The Friend of the Old Man

Time flew by to the next day.

Ling Mo had classes all morning, so he woke up early to prepare a heartfelt breakfast for Xia Xinyan.

By the time Xia Xinyan woke up, she was alone in the room. Ling Mo left her a note about the breakfast and mentioned another thing—

He had no classes in the afternoon and wanted to take her to hang out at the club, asking if she was willing.

After pondering for a few seconds, Xia Xinyan replied with a “yes.”

The breakfast was quite delicious, and it was clear that he had put effort into it. She was pretty satisfied with it.

Looks like he’s not just a fool after all.

After finishing her meal, she sat in the living room for a while before getting up to go to Ling Mo’s room.

The place hadn’t changed much since Ling Mo moved in; there was just an extra laptop on the desk, and even the bed was neatly made, completely unlike how he used to keep it.

Love really does make people disciplined.

Tsk.

After surveying the room, Xia Xinyan went over to open Ling Mo’s computer.

…Or rather, her old computer.

In her last life, after she graduated, this computer retired gloriously. After that, she basically spent all her time in the “Realm of Divine Presence” and hadn’t touched it much. Now, seeing the familiar custom startup screen made her feel a little nostalgic.

Old fool.

She naturally knew the login password, but just as she was about to hit enter after typing it, she hesitated for a moment and took out her phone to text Ling Mo—

“Can I play on your computer?”

Ling Mo’s computer automatically logged into the chat software, and he could see the message on his phone. At that point, it would be hard for her to explain how she knew the password.

But even if she asked him directly, he would probably agree anyway; after all, he had once thought that once he got a girlfriend, she should be able to see his phone or computer—because he didn’t have any secrets worth hiding.

Sure enough, Ling Mo quickly agreed and sent her the computer password.

Xia Xinyan waited a few seconds before hitting enter.

Once the computer was on, the chat software automatically logged her in, and she quietly opened all the chat windows of friends she had good relationships with, starting to search for content that interested her.

It didn’t take long to find it.

There was a chat window labeled “Brother Haonan.” This guy’s real name was Yang Haonan, Ling Mo’s best friend from university, and the top guy in their club—simply because his name was pretty impressive.

However, Brother Haonan was a good-natured guy, reliable and supportive, so whenever there was something bothering Ling Mo, he would chat with Brother Haonan.

For instance, about Xia Xinyan.

From the chat logs, it was clear that Ling Mo had suspected her motives for approaching him, but Brother Haonan ended that conversation with a “You should know better,” after which it turned into Ling Mo showing off his girlfriend.

Then, at four o’clock yesterday afternoon, he got blacklisted by Brother Haonan.

Xia Xinyan rested her chin on her hand, reading the chat records, and could practically envision Ling Mo saying those words out loud.

It made her want to laugh a little.

At least she was certain of one thing: Ling Mo no longer suspected her, which made things a lot easier.

That was a good thing.

Aside from that, there was nothing else of interest on the computer. After all, it used to be her own computer, and knowing exactly which folder contained what definitely took away her interest in sneaking around for secrets.

After closing the computer, Xia Xinyan started handling another very important matter—

She found her family’s butler’s contact information and sent him a message.

“I want to customize some clothes…”

Meanwhile, on the other side, in the classroom, Ling Mo was feeling anxious.

“What’s wrong?” Noticing his unusual demeanor, Brother Haonan couldn’t help but ask, “Stomach upset? Your face is pale.”

“It’s not that…” Ling Mo’s expression was stiff, his tone trembling, “I suddenly realized something very important…”

“What is it?”

“Xinyan just said she wanted to play on my computer, and I gave her the password…”

“And then? Did she find your stash?”

“…It’s worse than that.”

“What? Are all your files X-rated beast porn?”

“…”

“No way, is your XP that weird?”

Ling Mo couldn’t help but shoot him a sideways glance: “Do you think I’m that kind of person?”

“I’ve never seen your stash, how would I know? Even a refined scoundrel can appear refined,” Brother Haonan shrugged.

Ling Mo bluntly stated, “My account auto-logs in. Your chat with me should be the second one on the message list. Just clicking on it allows you to see all our chat records from the last few days.”

“Didn’t I blacklist you?”

“…You blacklisted me, but it still appears on the list!” Ling Mo’s face turned even worse, “How could I not have thought of that? If she really sees the chat records, I don’t even know what she would think.”

“What would she think?” Brother Haonan un-blacklisted him and re-read the chat logs, “It’s nothing, what can she think?”

Ling Mo completely disagreed: “Nothing? I asked you directly if you thought Xinyan had any ulterior motives for approaching me. What do you think she’ll think if she sees me questioning her? She’ll definitely feel like I’m suspicious of her, and then…”

“The thing is, you did suspect her, and isn’t that a normal reaction?” Brother Haonan was puzzled, “Anyone normal would think about why a rich girl is interested in them, right? Otherwise, you’d be sold off without even realizing it. Doesn’t she understand this? Even if she sees it, what would it matter? And didn’t you keep showing off about her afterward? Now you call her ‘Xinyan, Xinyan’ so affectionately. If she really liked you, does she have any issues with you?”

Ling Mo paused.

That does make sense.

“Man… What a headache I’m giving myself.” Brother Haonan nonchalantly brushed him off and then seemed to think of something else, asking, “By the way, didn’t you say Xia Xinyan was sending us a game pod for our club? Is that true?”

“Yeah, it’s true.” Ling Mo nodded. “She said it should arrive in the next couple of days, possibly even today… I plan to take her to the club this afternoon; hopefully, she’ll like it here. I remember she said she enjoyed gaming.”

“Ha! She’s just saying that to make you happy, and you took it seriously?” Brother Haonan shook his head, sounding quite wise, “You should consider who she is! She’s a rich girl; her annual allowance probably exceeds what we’d make in a lifetime—no, wait, you can make that now; I’m the only deadweight here. So do you think someone at that status would be a shut-in? Would she spend her days gaming with us? Wake up, you just got lucky… Damn, why can’t I be you?”

Ling Mo fell silent for a moment, noncommittal: “Honestly, Brother Haonan, you should lose some weight; if you slimmed down, you could probably become a heartthrob, and then you could snag a rich wife. Wouldn’t everything be settled then?”

“Get lost! Am I not handsome now?” Brother Haonan snapped.

Then, sitting on the other side, his roommate couldn’t take it anymore: “You’re just a social loser; it’s a miracle a girl isn’t scared to death of you. Handsome? Don’t make me laugh.”

“Damn, get out!”
