Chapter 416
Chapter 416 Prologue to the Great War
Ling Mo guessed that destroying the matrix inside would successfully obliterate the castle, but he didn’t expect that the castle would be this fragile after losing its invincible status. Even just the collateral explosion from blowing up the matrix caused it to begin collapsing.
But now wasn’t the time to dwell on that.
He immediately looked at the treasonous demon: “Hurry up and take us out of here!”
The demon turned and ran: “Just follow me!”
Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo followed closely behind, and Ling Mo even took the time to leave bombs along the way, just to completely blow this place sky-high.
But before that, they had to escape first.
The demon seemed very familiar with the routes here, leading them at great speed through the convoluted corridors. Along the way, they encountered several demons and monsters that were hastily fleeing, but those monsters didn’t even glance at them and simply dashed off in other directions.
It seemed that these guys had become a bit smarter, but that wasn’t entirely a bad thing—at least they wouldn’t recklessly charge at the enemy even if it meant mutual destruction, like before.
As Xia Xinyan ran, she observed the fleeing demons, deep in thought.
Before long, the traitorous demon led them to an exit of the castle. Beyond the exit, it was still dim, and as the two rushed outside with the demon, they noticed the situation outside—
The entire castle had already begun collapsing, with debris continuously falling from above. The cause of all this was likely just a series of bombs thrown by Ling Mo inside that house—this seemed to prove that the castle’s quality wasn’t worth a dime. Once it lost the protective effect generated by the matrix, Ling Mo’s bomb was like pulling out the bottom block of a Jenga tower, and the whole tower couldn’t hold on any longer.
But these escaping demons were also a headache.
“We can’t let them leave,” Xia Xinyan whispered, “Is there a way to keep as many of them here as possible?”
As she had mentioned before, if these demons managed to escape and alert others, it would definitely be bad news for humanity.
Ling Mo nodded: “I understand, but we need to leave here first.”
Saying that, he immediately opened communication, asking: “Monica, hurry over to find us, we need to get out of here quickly.”
Monica simply responded with an acknowledgment.
Ling Mo didn’t bother with the chubby guy who was babbling and asking questions later; instead, he glanced into the distance: “Has the spatial rift of this city been restored?”
But why hadn’t the dark clouds in the sky disappeared? Wasn’t that a phenomenon caused by the spatial rift?
“It’s been restored,” the demon nodded, “But it’s already started repairing. If you want to leave, you need to hurry.”
As they spoke, the three had already arrived at the rooftop of the nearest intact building to the castle. Ling Mo immediately materialized a helicopter in front and asked in communication: “Monica, where are you?! Hurry up!”
Before he finished speaking, Monica’s voice came simultaneously from the communicator and from nearby: “Coming, don’t rush.”
Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo turned to see Monica and her group jumping onto the rooftop—Xiao Bai had even released several beast girls, one with white feathers, one with a chubby guy, and one with a fox. It seemed they were sent over as decorations.
No wonder the chubby guy had gone silent after starting to speak during the communication.
At that moment, the chubby guy’s face was pale; he took a deep breath: “Hiss… this is too exciting, I… crap, who is this?!”
—He saw the demon behind Ling Mo.
In fact, this demon was quite similar to a human in some ways; at least it was much better than the indescribable Freemen Xia Xinyan had encountered before. If one had to describe it, this guy was like an overworked muscle bro, just taller and with tumors all over its body that made it look like it had severe varicose veins—rather unsettling, to say the least.
It looked somewhat human, but it was definitely in a different league.
“It’s a demon,” Ling Mo explained briefly before entering the helicopter. “Get in, this isn’t a place for talking.”
Everyone else also boarded the helicopter, and then Ling Mo immediately pulled up at maximum speed toward the city’s exit.
Once they had flown a safe distance away from the castle, Ling Mo activated the bombs he had left behind: “Hold on tight!”
In the next moment, a massive explosion erupted from the lower section of the castle, splitting the already collapsing structure in two and engulfing it entirely in the rising smoke of the explosion. The immense force created a shockwave that nearly sent the helicopter out of control.
Fortunately, Tianshi’s super AI successfully stabilized the aircraft.
However, the experience inside the cabin wasn’t so pleasant—more accurately, it was only the chubby guy who had a terrible time because, right after Ling Mo shouted, he was the only one caught off guard and failed to grab a handhold to brace himself.
Though it was a hard hit, the chubby guy didn’t have time to complain—because he saw the explosion wave slowly approaching from behind.
This second wave of impact was certainly no joke. If the helicopter got caught in it, they might really bite the dust here.
“Aaahhhh, Ling, did you use too much firepower?!!!” He was the first to scream in terror.
Ling Mo didn’t respond; he just pushed the speed to the helicopter’s limit.
He did indeed set the firepower too high, but he wasn’t just aiming to destroy that castle. He meant to take out the fleeing demons along with it. Under such circumstances, the wider the explosion wave covered, the better. Unless they truly became casualties, Ling Mo wouldn’t let this explosion dissipate.
This was all part of his calculations.
And his calculations did not fail.
In the end, the helicopter narrowly escaped before the destruction hit the city, and as they entered the Safe Zone, Ling Mo began to descend speed. Only then did they turn back to look at the aftermath.
The castle, even the entire city, was almost completely wiped out. The shockwave from the explosion even cleared the dark clouds that had spread over the city, finally allowing that city… or rather, what should now be called ruins, to see the light of day once more.
Ling Mo stared at the ruins for a moment before tilting his head to look at Xia Xinyan: “Do you think those demons were blown to bits?”
Xia Xinyan’s lips twitched: “Probably.”
“Crap, we almost sent them off to the afterlife. Do you really think those things wouldn’t die?” The chubby guy still looked shaken, “Damn! If someone didn’t know better, they’d think this was a world war!”
“This is a world war,” Xia Xinyan said, her tone somewhat enigmatic, “Now, the prologue is over.”
No matter what, they had no way to turn back now.
