Chapter 384

Chapter 384: Black Carnival

“Could this be some new invasion situation?” Ling Mo pondered, looking at Xia Xinyan in his arms.

Xia Xinyan shook her head. “I don’t know.”

In the previous life, when the city was destroyed, it was said that an army of demons flooded the streets. However, the resistance in that city wasn’t anywhere near as strong as it is this time, so no one really knew whether the monsters were actually increasing in number—the ones who did are mostly dead in that city.

Ultimately, the last resort was to directly destroy the city, and by the time I died in that past life, the city still hadn’t been rebuilt.

She absolutely didn’t want this city to suffer the same fate as that one, but where the problem lay, she had no clue.

At that moment, Bai Yan chimed in, “Someone might be pulling strings behind the scenes.”

“Someone’s pulling strings?” Xia Xinyan paused. “You mean other forces?”

“Yeah,” Bai Yan’s gaze showed no change, but it had a hint of coldness in her tone. “Haven’t you noticed? Tonight, all the major powers in this city are in the Dark Zone.”

Upon hearing this, Xia Xinyan couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.

No wonder.

As one of the most prosperous cities in the country, there were definitely quite a few major forces stationed here. Including the Summer Family led New Dawn, there were at least four major forces in the city, yet all their main powers just happened to be in the Dark Zone tonight.

The main reason was undoubtedly the recent surge of magical beasts, and on top of that, many had noticed an increasing number of demons in the Dark Zone, which began actively attacking the forces already stationed there. Thus, several powers had started organizing extermination actions against the demons roaming wilderness areas.

In general, those major forces had been investing more and more in the Dark Zone.

And under such circumstances, the house got robbed.

“Aren’t there still the Chicks?” Ling Mo suddenly countered.

Bai Yan shot them a sideways glance. “Maybe the ones acting felt the Chicks were beneath notice.”

Ling Mo: “…”

Alright, indeed, whether it’s the Chicks or the Eagles, outsiders probably just see them as a bunch of worthless scrap. Some major forces starting to take them seriously meant others didn’t regard them at all.

But in a way, that’s a good thing—playing the pig to eat the tiger.

“Who’s behind this?” Xia Xinyan asked. “Why are they doing such things in reality?”

“Nothing more than power and status,” Bai Yan replied without a change in tone. “The fewer existences that are on par with them, the higher their own status becomes. As for who it is, that’s still unclear.”

Ling Mo frowned and remarked, “Happy.”

Bai Yan merely chuckled a couple of times in response.

Xia Xinyan noted all this down before turning the conversation back to the main point: “So, what do we do now?”

“Not far ahead is the Linjiang Stadium, where a concert was held a few days ago, and the stage hasn’t been taken down yet,” Bai Yan said calmly. “Those demons will be drawn to the commotion there. If we can use the equipment to create enough noise to reach the residential community, we should be able to attract the nearby demons.”

Ling Mo smacked his lips. “So we have to put on a concert?”

Bai Yan didn’t respond.

While speaking, she led the two to the stadium. There were not many demons there; Bai Yan quickly dealt with those monsters in a swift manner, so fast that Ling Mo and Xia Xinyan didn’t even get a clear look at her abilities.

Ling Mo was a bit surprised. “You’re pretty strong.”

“Flattery,” Bai Yan said as she looked around the stage. Unfortunately, while the stage was still there, the sound equipment had been completely dismantled.

At that moment, Xia Xinyan had regained some strength, barely able to stand, but still needed to lean on Ling Mo for support, looking as if she had just gotten out of bed.

Taking a deep breath, she curiously asked, “I heard someone say your ability was mind control; it seems that person was mistaken?”

Though she hadn’t seen Bai Yan’s abilities, judging from her moves and fluctuations, it was definitely not a mental type, so it couldn’t be mind control.

Bai Yan merely replied nonchalantly, “Everyone has their own secrets.”

Xia Xinyan didn’t press further. “Mo Mo, let’s do this.”

Ling Mo nodded and summoned a pile of sound equipment, then said, “Hold on tight.”

He also wrapped an arm around Xia Xinyan.

The next moment, the entire stage suddenly shot up, elevating to dozens of meters high, towering above the stadium and almost level with the nearby buildings, allowing the three of them to overlook the area.

Bai Yan paused. “What’s this for?”

“To see far and run away if something goes wrong,” Ling Mo chuckled. “Don’t worry, the stakes have been driven into the ground and are the same length as the ones on the surface, so no need to worry about it tipping over.”

Saying this, he conjured up three soundproof headphones, tossing one to Bai Yan. “I suggest you wear this; otherwise, it won’t be good for your hearing.”

Then, he lowered his head and intended to put a pair on Xia Xinyan—

Only to see her ears instantly fall silent.

Xia Xinyan shook her cat ears, then let them droop and blend into her hair—she returned to her normal state and put on the soundproof headphones herself.

Ling Mo wanted to say something more, but then he heard Bai Yan say, “Let’s start; those guys are approaching the residential community.”

Ling Mo nodded, “Alright, get ready.”

With that, he turned on all the sound equipment, summoning a guitar and microphone. Leaning into the mic, he softly began, “Ladies and gentlemen…”

His voice instantly traveled through the rear speakers, spreading across nearly the entire city, so loud that even Ling Mo’s high-tech soundproof headphones couldn’t fully block it.

And this sudden sound almost made all the demons in the city turn their heads toward him.

Moments later, Ling Mo strummed his guitar, a smirk forming on his face. “Do you know what day it is today?”

Of course, no one answered him.

So he took the initiative to respond, “Today is not any kind of special day.”

“But since it’s so lively tonight, it’s quite memorable, right? Why don’t we change today into a holiday? What should we call it…”

After a brief pause, he suddenly raised his hand, snapped his fingers, and at that moment, exhilarating music erupted, instantly enveloping the entire doomsday city in a new atmosphere—

“Why not call it the Black Carnival?”

As soon as he finished speaking, a multitude of fireworks that had been set up around the stage ignited, shooting into the sky and exploding into brilliant colors.

With this bold move, those demons were indeed drawn in as intended, all turning around and charging toward them.

And clearly, he had gone overboard—

“Damn! Old Ling, what the hell are you doing?! All the demons in the city are rushing toward you guys!!”
