Chapter 382
Chapter 382 White Smoke
The explosion’s power even raised a small mushroom cloud in the sky.
Fortunately, the affected area wasn’t too large; otherwise, this magical attack, originally intended to break the deadlock, might have turned Xia Xinyan and her group into traitors.
However, looking at the large pit with a diameter of about ten meters at the center of the explosion, it was hard not to be stunned by everyone present.
Not only Zhang Zhen and his companions, but also the group of girls inside the residential community, who had originally been defending against aerial threats, stood there dazed, seemingly still unable to comprehend what had just happened as they stared blankly at the large gap before them.
Ling Mo also reacted at this moment.
The magic Xia Xinyan used… was of the caliber comparable to a superweapon.
Even he, as a being who could manifest magic books, never thought such magic could actually be produced—yet this wasn’t even the strongest form of that magic; it might not even be half as powerful. Luckily, he only manifested a small bottle of magic potion; if the dose were sufficient, Xia Xinyan’s earlier strike could have wiped out half a city.
Besides, this magic…
Thud.
Suddenly, Xia Xinyan’s body went limp, and she collapsed into Ling Mo’s arms.
Ling Mo paused: “Xinyan?”
“…What kind of magic book is this?” Xia Xinyan asked expressionlessly.
Ling Mo hesitated for a moment but still answered: “A collection of ultra-strong destructive spells, the most powerful magic book I can manifest right now.”
Xia Xinyan: “…”
Even with magic, this guy couldn’t change his explosive nature, could he?
Moreover…
“Then why can’t I move?”
It was as if her physical strength had been instantly drained; she couldn’t even raise her arm now.
Ling Mo paused and lightly coughed: “This magic probably has some side effects.”
As one of the most powerful spells, the explosive magic naturally consumed a tremendous amount of energy. While the magic metabolism could be covered by the magic potion he manifested, the physical energy required to cast the spell had to be maintained by the caster herself—put simply, that was stamina.
And explosive magic could directly drain the caster’s all stamina and magical energy in exchange for immense power output.
In other words, Xinyan was currently exhausted.
“…Stop dawdling. Quickly take me inside.” She had already realized this, but it wasn’t the time to discuss such things; although the demons on this street had been vaporized, there were still plenty of demons elsewhere. The commotion they just caused would surely attract those demons.
Ling Mo understood this very well and immediately carried her in his arms, then dashed toward the opposite residential community. Zhang Zhen and the others finally reacted and hurriedly followed.
The girls in the community instinctively wanted to attack when they saw someone rushing over, but upon realizing they were humans, they halted their movements.
Then, one girl stepped forward to block them: “Stop, who are you?”
Before Ling Mo could speak, the girl frowned slightly: “Ling Mo? Xia Xinyan?”
Ling Mo paused: “Do you know us?”
“Of course,” the girl nodded and then added, “Your special abilities allow you to manifest items, right? Can you fix the wall that was blown up?”
Ling Mo glanced back; without him making any moves, the blown-up wall, along with the crater, had been entirely replaced by a solid piece of black metal. It only finished manifesting by smashing down to fill the gap, causing the ground to tremble slightly, indicating its weight.
“This is the hardest defensive material; you don’t have to worry about those guys breaking through,” Ling Mo explained.
The girl waved her hand to the others behind her: “Go, reinforce the Thunderfire Formation.”
After those girls went to reinforce the formation, Ling Mo carried Xia Xinyan in front of her. Xia Xinyan immediately said: “I heard someone brought the Summer Family over here.”
“It was us who rescued them,” the girl nodded.
“Who are you?” Xia Xinyan frowned slightly.
She found this girl’s outfit somewhat familiar.
“Just call me White Smoke,” the girl replied.
Upon hearing this, Xia Xinyan was momentarily stunned: “White Smoke? You are White Smoke?”
She remembered.
She recalled meeting them once during the God of War Cup competition, and that was also when she got to know the character Tiger Ba Tian.
Ling Mo also seemed to recall something but was curious: “Had we met in a dungeon before? Yet I feel it doesn’t quite seem like that?”
Even though she was dressed in white robes and had a mask covering half her face, just looking at the upper half of her face made him feel she was different from the girl he had met before.
“People change, be it in nature or appearance,” White Smoke replied noncommittally. “Did you come looking for members of the Summer Family?”
“Mm,” Xia Xinyan nodded, “Where are they now?”
“They’re resting inside,” White Smoke looked at her and asked, “What happened to Miss Summer?”
“…I’m fine, don’t worry about me,” Xia Xinyan silently averted her gaze.
White Smoke honestly didn’t care about her: “Was that explosion outside caused by you?”
Ling Mo replied, “Mm.”
“It was magic?”
“Mm.”
“You also know magic?”
Ling Mo smiled, remaining noncommittal.
White Smoke then said no more: “Follow me, I’ll take you to see the Summer Family.”
I must say, this upscale community is indeed impressive; just the greenery probably occupies half the area. Compared to the surrounding high-rise buildings, this place is practically a paradise in the earthly realm.
However, it might also be due to this characteristic, making this community a perfect temporary shelter. On the way, Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo noticed many other citizens who had expressions of fear and confusion on their faces, likely rescued by White Smoke and her group.
The Summer Family members were arranged by White Smoke in the main hall of a villa in the central area. Upon entering, it felt like a family reunion; not only were there parents but also uncles and aunts, and a whole bunch of relatives gathered around when they saw Ling Mo carrying Xia Xinyan. They immediately came forward, surprised and anxious: “Xinyan?! Oh no, why is Xinyan here?! What happened?!”
A young man rushed over wanting to carry her away, but Ling Mo subtly dodged and softly said: “Xinyan is fine; she just temporarily ran out of strength.”
He still remembered this man, named Xia Weihan, who was Xinyan’s older cousin.
But with him here, there was no need for others to care for Xinyan.
Seeing her cheap parents also anxiously gather around, Xia Xinyan could only smile and reassure: “I’m fine; just let Ling Mo carry me.”
She was so used to calling him ‘Mo Mo’ that she almost forgot to correct herself in front of family.
It’s better to keep things formal in this kind of situation.
Her cheap dad looked Ling Mo up and down, the expression on his face somewhat complicated: “What exactly happened?”
“A sudden incident occurred in the city; it’s a large-scale invasion event we haven’t encountered before. I was worried about Uncle and Aunt and everyone else, so I rushed to the villa area first but was still a step too late,” Ling Mo replied. “Then we followed the clues all the way here, and upon seeing you all safe, Xinyan can finally relax.”
Upon hearing this, everyone present was momentarily speechless.
