Chapter 340
Chapter 340 Just Start Now. (1)
The Guard hit by Ghislaine’s kick fell immediately. The expressions of the surrounding guards turned grim.
“What the hell is wrong with this crazy bastard!”
There were quite a few guards in front of the house. They all rushed in and began to beat Ghislaine.
Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!
As Ghislaine was trampled and fallen, she shouted, “This filthy world! Some are just playing around in this big mansion every day! Others can’t even get a proper piece of bread to eat! It’s unfair!”
“What the hell is this guy saying? Are you crazy?”
Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!
The kicks from the soldiers intensified. Even while being beaten, Ghislaine didn’t stop yelling.
“Hey! This dog-like world! All the noble bastards should be stabbed to death with spears! We need a revolution! Freedom and equality! We are all brothers!”
At the mention of revolution, the soldiers stopped beating, surprised.
“Is he a madman? What on earth is he saying?”
“Is this guy part of the Revolutionary Group?”
“He looks like just a drunk… but he’s definitely a dangerous thinker, right?”
The Revolutionary Group is a faction aiming to overturn the world. Claude had been falsely accused because of them in the past.
Since then, just mentioning the word revolution would get you dragged off to trouble. The soldiers stopped beating and grabbed the fallen Ghislaine.
“First, lock this guy up. Lock him away and report to higher-ups. He mentioned the Revolutionary Group.”
If he were just a drunk, they could beat him up for fun and then let him go. They could toss a vagrant into prison. That’s the soldier’s mindset.
But now that this guy mentioned revolution, they couldn’t just let him go.
He might truly be a part of the Revolutionary Group, and even if he wasn’t, who knows what kind of crazy things someone with those thoughts might do?
With that, Ghislaine was dragged down to the underground prison tied with ropes.
Inside the prison were several criminals. Most were petty offenders or people who had been wrongfully detained.
“Hmm, the room’s full.”
The soldier furrowed his brow and looked around.
The prison was packed. Many had been captured recently, but it was also because around fifty Dwarves had been brought in at once.
The Dwarves, lounging around doing nothing, were startled when Ghislaine was thrown in.
They all thought the same thing.
‘That guy isn’t someone who just got caught on his own!’
The Dwarves were convinced by their years of experience. If a lord had been captured, it meant he had come in intentionally.
Galbarik and the Dwarves smirked. With the lord’s tremendous skills, escaping from here wouldn’t be difficult.
Coincidentally, Ghislaine was placed in a cell directly opposite where Galbarik was located. The room already had other prisoners inside.
Normally, dangerous elements like Revolutionary Group members should be isolated, but since the prison was full, they had just tossed him in anywhere for now.
The head guard said to the soldiers, “I’ll report separately on that weird guy. Also, I’ll be moving the Dwarves to a special prison tomorrow, so keep a close watch on them.”
The special prison is where knights or high-ranking nobles are detained.
Dwarves are expensive slaves. Martin wouldn’t let such slaves slip away. Whether through persuasion or threats, something would be done.
For now, it seemed persuasion would take priority, so the plan was to relocate the Dwarves to a better place.
This was the reason Ghislaine acted now. They might not manage to keep those expensive Dwarves in a regular prison for long.
When the soldiers stepped back, Galbarik grabbed the bars and whispered so only Ghislaine could hear, “You really are the lord! You’ve come to save us!”
“No, I’ve been caught too.”
“……”
Galbarik averted his gaze at Ghislaine’s sulky expression.
‘That punk’s pouting.’
Galbarik clicked his tongue inwardly. Either way, it’s true that they had failed the mission.
However, he felt wronged. It had been a simple enough task, but they had gotten unlucky.
The Dwarves had overheard the soldiers’ conversation during their drag to prison and understood why they had been caught.
Galbarik urgently expressed his grievances. He was so indignant that his usual speech patterns changed.
“Lord! Listen to me. Our plan was perfect! But there happened to be a soldier lazing around hiding there! Right on that day! At that time! This is truly the heavens forcing us down!”
At his words, Ghislaine chuckled. The desperate excuse of Galbarik was rather cute.
Unexpected problems can always arise. No matter how informed and planned you are, absurd things can happen.
Whether it was due to a mistake, bad luck, or the enemy’s capabilities.
Yet, no matter the problems, Ghislaine eventually found a way to resolve them. It was the same now.
“Well, thinking about it, it seems like there’s never been a time things went quietly in my affairs.”
Even when attempting to handle things quietly, they inevitably became noisy. Most of the time, it was due to acts that defied common sense or were undertaken recklessly.
If it’s something unavoidable, then this time, too, they would have no choice but to proceed noisily.
“I’ll move tonight, so get some good rest. Once I start moving, head straight to the tunnel. The knights will be waiting. Got it?”
“Can we just not fight?”
The Dwarves were also pretty good fighters. Honestly, if they set their minds to it, a few soldier could easily be dealt with.
But Ghislaine had no intention of including the Dwarves in the fight.
“Forget it. If you get hurt or caught, it’ll only cause more headaches. Just move along.”
“Uh, okay. I’ll do that.”
Honestly, if it were the lord’s skills, leaving here alone wouldn’t be a problem. The issue was the hostages.
Combining Martin’s soldiers, the guards, and the city defense forces exceeds a thousand. No matter how noble you are, rescuing hostages safely against that many people won’t be easy.
Considering that, it would probably be better for them to get out of the way.
Just as they were deciding to wait until nightfall, trouble came from elsewhere.
“Hey, newbie. If you’re new here, you should at least greet everyone. Are the Dwarves fascinating? They’re all the same guys who are going elsewhere anyway, so what’s with the chit-chat?”
Ghislaine turned around. A hairy giant was lounging around scratching his belly. He was dressed poorly, looking quite ridiculous.
When Ghislaine just stared at him without saying anything, the giant waved a hand dismissively.
“I don’t know what crime you got caught for, but you’ve got a fair complexion and look well-bred. Come over here. I’ll take good care of you.”
Looking around, the others were huddled in the corners, wearing terrified expressions. It seemed that the giant was the boss of this room.
No, a middle-aged man was glaring at the giant with eyes full of resentment.
The middle-aged man was covered in bruises and blood. It seemed he had taken quite a beating.
As Ghislaine alternately looked at both sides, the giant grinned and said, “You wonder why that guy looks like that? He got beaten up by me. He didn’t know his place and tried to kill me. I’m going to secretly kill that punk for catching me.”
With such nonchalant words from the giant, Ghislaine grew curious and asked, “What are you in for?”
“Robbery, rape, and murder. Hehehe.”
Bragging about the crimes he committed. But what followed was even more shocking.
“That punk had a daughter. Stupidly, he argued with a knight and got thrown in here. By the way, the guys here have terrible taste. Putting enemies in the same room. It’s amusing for me though, hehehe.”
“You bastard!”
As the giant laughed at his own amusement, the middle-aged man, barely able to stand, lunged at him. The giant instantly rose and kicked the middle-aged man.
Thwack!
“Gek!”
The middle-aged man fell from the single kick. The giant swaggered over and began to stomp on him.
“Hey, you dumbass! Do you think you can take me on? Who do you think you are trying to mess with? You little bastard!”
Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!
The middle-aged man was stomped mercilessly. The others pressed against the wall, terrified.
Galbarik and the Dwarves, who had been watching with amusement, frowned upon hearing the conversation.
After thoroughly trampling the middle-aged man, the giant glared at Ghislaine and said, “Did you see that? I don’t hold back when I lose my cool. When I’m being nice, come over here without your clothes on.”
“What if I don’t?”
“Then you’ll die by my hand here. By the way, I’ve killed five people before. Hehehe. I got caught trying to mess with that punk’s daughter, but today could be the day it turns to six.”
At the giant’s words, Galbarik and the Dwarves stared blankly. To be bragging about having killed five people in front of a living weapon? This guy must have a different definition of dying.
Ghislaine’s expression hardened as she opened her mouth coldly. “I don’t have a hobby of picking on weaklings.”
“What?”
“But I do clean up garbage well.”
“What the hell are you saying? You’re dead, you little bastard.”
The giant scowled and approached Ghislaine. No, he was about to come closer.
Clunk!
“Uh?”
As Ghislaine slowly extended her hand, the giant froze in place, as if tightly bound by something.
“What… What is this?”
The giant gritted his teeth, trying to move while Ghislaine’s hand turned slightly.
Creak!
“Gaaaah!”
One of the giant’s arms twisted in an unnatural direction, followed by his other arm and both legs adjusting to the same shape.
Thud.
In the end, the giant couldn’t even hold his own balance and fell to the floor.
“G-guhhh…”
The giant couldn’t regain his consciousness. A mage…? Why the hell was a mage here in a common prison!
Only regretting choosing the wrong opponent surged inside him.
Ghislaine looked down coldly at the fallen giant, then waved her hand toward the bars.
Slice.
A part of the iron bars was severed. Ghislaine gripped a piece of bar and infused mana, sharpening the end to a lethal point.
With a jab, she could easily kill a person.
As she approached, the giant drooled and begged, “P-please spare me! I-I didn’t recognize the noble!”
Unable to move, he lay there wiggling while only his mouth moved.
After briefly glancing at the giant, Ghislaine handed the sharpened stick to the middle-aged man.
“Only those who’ve tasted revenge know its flavor.”
The middle-aged man, bewildered by the sharpened stick he received, soon gritted his teeth and stood up.
The enemy of his daughter was now writhing on the floor, limbs twisted.
And he held a sharp weapon in his hands.
What more could he have wished for!
The middle-aged man staggered toward the giant. Everyone around held their breath watching the scene.
Even Galbarik and the Dwarves, and the other prisoners in distant rooms who could see it.
“Grrr… No, please… Spare me.”
Hearing the giant’s pitiful voice, the middle-aged man gazed down at him with murderous eyes.
“My daughter probably said the same thing.”
“P-please spare me…”
“Go to hell and apologize to my daughter.”
The middle-aged man climbed onto the fallen giant’s body. The giant tried to escape, but all he could do was wiggle his body.
Thrust!
The middle-aged man resolutely drove the sharpened stick into the giant’s neck.
“Gaaah!”
The giant screamed, spewing blood. The middle-aged man did not stop and continued to stab.
Thrust! Thrust! Thrust! Thrust!
His grudge apparently ran deep, as the middle-aged man showed no hesitation in his hands.
The giant’s neck, continuously stabbed, soon became ragged like a mop.
“Gug… Gaaaah…”
Before long, the giant let out one final scream and died. He didn’t even have time to close his eyes properly.
After watching the scene for a while, the middle-aged man stood up and bowed his head at Ghislaine.
“T-thank you. How can I…”
Before the middle-aged man could finish his statement, screams erupted from the onlookers, mostly from those watching from another room.
“Someone died!”
As it became uproarious, soldiers immediately rushed in.
“What’s going on! What happened here!”
“How did he die?”
“Were they just fighting?”
The soldiers usually lazed around in front of the prison door, dozing or chatting. They never paid attention to the prisoners fighting.
But to think someone was actually killed inside. Well, it could happen. Sometimes, a vicious one would kill someone through beating.
In such a case, they would just clean up the body. That’s more convenient for them.
But this was the first case of using a weapon. In this situation, they had to be responsible. They’d failed to notice someone sneaking in a weapon.
“Get those bastards out right now! Everyone, get down!”
At a soldier’s shout, everyone pressed against the wall and lay flat. In these situations, if you were unlucky enough to get caught, a vicious beating would follow, so it was best to comply.
Ghislaine, unfazed by the commotion, rolled up her sleeves and asked the middle-aged man, “Do you have family?”
“I don’t. I was alone after my daughter died.”
“Then come to the territory of Penris in the north if you have nowhere else to go. You won’t have to worry about food there. There won’t be those kinds of bastards around.”
“W-what? I’m a prisoner. How can I…”
Then Ghislaine smiled brightly. “I’ll let you go. Many will die here today, so they won’t catch you easily.”
Clank!
The iron door opened, and soldiers stormed in, looking furious.
Galbarik muttered as he saw the scene, “Weren’t we supposed to wait until night?”
From the looks of it, waiting until night seemed wrong.
One soldier swung a club toward Ghislaine, shouting, “Get down! You little shit!”
Thud.
“…?”
The club was caught in Ghislaine’s hand. She shook her head and muttered, “There’s never a time when things go quietly.”
Plans can always go awry. As long as the result turns out as desired, that’s what matters.
Even if the process turns out to be incredibly noisy.
Boom!
The soldier was launched out the door in one shot. No one could see how Ghislaine moved.
“What the…?”
Both soldiers and prisoners were stunned, frozen in place. Ghislaine grinned at the soldiers.
“Let’s just start now.”
It was time to rescue the hostages and escape.
