Chapter 329
Chapter 329 Tonight, You’re the Boss!
Before this incident erupted, the members of Tiger Hall hadn’t fully taken residence in this stronghold.
According to Tiger Ba Tian, they had only just occupied half of the Safe Zone they established in the south, so the players here were relatively few compared to the whole Small Town.
Furthermore, the sudden appearance of zombies after the incident scattered the players in the stronghold, and Tiger Ba Tian and the others had to flee in haste, leaving them unaware of the locations of other survivor gatherings.
Although they had communication equipment, under such a sudden zombie attack, the communication network among survivors wasn’t comprehensive. Even if they could contact someone, they might not necessarily be able to specify their position. After all, the wandering zombies had become a significant threat due to their weakened strength, and those lacking sufficient power were naturally focused on survival.
So when Tiger Ba Tian said they needed to search for survivors, he meant it seriously.
However, Ling Mo and Xia Xinyan were lucky; before they had to seek out survivors, a survivor came looking for them.
After thinking for two seconds, Ling Mo said, “Xinyan, you go find him first; I’ll catch up later.”
There were already hundreds, if not thousands, of zombies gathered here. It would certainly relieve some pressure on others if they dealt with this large mass, regardless of whether the Source of Invasion would spawn more zombies.
Before Xia Xinyan could respond, he summoned a small button as if he thought of something: “Take this. If you sense danger or something seems off, press this button, and I’ll come right away.”
One must always be cautious, especially since Xinyan’s strength had also waned.
Hmm… Should he consider getting Xinyan a set of battle armor suitable for her?
Xia Xinyan: “…”
Even though she understood this guy was concerned, she couldn’t shake the feeling of being underestimated.
Just how weak did he think she was?
But… fine, he meant well, so she took the button and turned to run towards the man.
Ling Mo watched the man for a few seconds before shifting his gaze back to the horde of zombies below.
The man’s appearance had caused the horde that had originally clustered here to disperse, and they couldn’t delay dealing with them too long.
After pondering for a moment, he raised his right hand and began the summoning process.
Meanwhile, Xia Xinyan had already reached the man.
Although her power had diminished, the speed and agility of her beast transformation abilities were ingrained in her life instincts, so they weren’t affected too much, making her movement between rooftops feel like a game.
The old guy stared at her in shock: “…So fast.”
“Are you a survivor here?” Xia Xinyan sized him up a bit and asked, “Are there other people around?”
The man also eyed her up and down, then suddenly exclaimed, “Xia… Miss Xia?!”
When Ling Mo first gained notoriety online due to negative rumors, Xia Xinyan, as one of the subjects of those rumors, naturally gained some fame too. However, unlike Ling Mo, the majority viewed Xia Xinyan as—“Damn, how come I can’t meet such a rich lady?”
Later, during the God of War Cup, after the matches would conclude, highlights were edited for players who couldn’t watch the live broadcasting, which helped turn around Ling Mo’s reputation online. Those who had mocked him realized it wasn’t that they couldn’t meet rich ladies; it was that they weren’t strong enough.
Still, throughout it all, Xia Xinyan’s persona as a wealthy and beautiful young lady from a powerful family never changed, which was a dream for many men.
Including this old guy.
So when he suddenly encountered his dream figure, his brain went blank.
Until—
BOOOOOOM!!!!!!
An explosion echoed across the entire Small Town, followed by thick black smoke rising not far away, which not only brought this old guy back to his senses but almost gave him a heart attack: “What the heck?! What happened?!”
“Sorry, I scared you,” Ling Mo’s voice came through, and then he appeared beside Xia Xinyan, flashing a warm smile at the old guy, “Just dealt with a little trouble.”
The old guy glanced at the explosion site.
Several nearby houses had turned into ruins, and the zombies on that street had completely vanished.
“…So strong.” The old guy couldn’t help but take a deep breath and looked at the two, trembling slightly, “You… are here to save us?”
“Yes,” Ling Mo nodded, “Are there any others here besides you?”
“Yes! Yes! Yes!” The old guy became excited, “They’re all hiding in the basement! This house has a basement! We have over ten people trapped here! I’ll take you there!”
As they headed downstairs, the old guy filled them in on the situation.
When the incident broke out, Tiger Ba Tian could only manage to inform them what was happening before everyone got scattered. They had weapons in their space watches, but not many suited for this kind of scenario, and weakened as they were, they weren’t a match for the zombies with just their fists. Thus, they plummeted from being superhumans to trembling survivors waiting for rescue.
He had happened to come out to check the situation when he spotted the two being surrounded by zombies and initially thought they were brothers from the stronghold, intending to guide them away—but then realized they didn’t need to flee at all.
So these were the strong ones? Even with their power reduced, they could still face difficulties so easily.
It filled this old guy with a newfound respect for the two.
Ling Mo and Xia Xinyan soon met about ten survivors in the basement.
These people also recognized them and were quite excited upon seeing them—from the thrill of meeting the big shots only seen in videos to the relief of finally being rescued.
Ling Mo scanned them, cleared his throat.
Then, the previously cheering crowd suddenly fell silent.
Clearly, Ling Mo wasn’t a member of Tiger Hall, yet at that moment, he felt like their boss.
“Our main objective this time isn’t just to rescue people; it’s to resolve the troubles here,” Ling Mo said calmly, “The nature of this incident is essentially the same as what happened in the Old Town by the river—only by destroying the Source of Invasion can things return to normal here. If you want to protect your stronghold, what you need to do is not to escape but to fight.”
He paused and continued, “Of course, I’m not your boss, nor do I have the authority to command you; however, it’s challenging for us to resolve the trouble here relying solely on our strength, so we need your help—therefore, those willing to assist, please step forward.”
Almost simultaneously, everyone stepped forward excitedly. The initial old guy shouted, “Since Ling Ge and Miss Xia are both willing to do so much for Tiger Hall, what reason do we have to avoid it?! Tonight, Ling Ge is my boss!”
Then everyone was infected: “Tonight, Ling Ge is our boss!”
Xia Xinyan couldn’t help but glance at Ling Mo’s side profile.
Tsk, this guy really was growing into quite the leader.
