Chapter 327
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 311: For My Parents
After leaving the Seventh District, I felt lighter than usual and made my way to the neighboring Sixth District, but what lay beyond the overlooking wall was an unexpected sight.
“I had imagined a shabby, ruined place, but this is…”
To put it simply, what spread out before me resembled several small villages established within the district.
“If I remember correctly, the Sixth District is where the displaced demons and the exclusive ones gather and live on their own.”
From the looks of it, there appeared to be four main villages in this district, which would mean there are four leaders as well.
“This could get a bit troublesome.”
According to Bagira, I was to become the representative of this district and manage it, but if someone like me were to suddenly appear in a place inhabited by those who have lived here for a long time, the outcome would be as certain as the sun rising in the morning.
“Haah. Well, whatever. I never intended to manage this place seriously anyway; I might as well let them do as they please.”
For now, thinking aimlessly here wouldn’t get me anywhere, so I decided to move to a location where I could sense Wilhelm and the others.
“We’ve been waiting for you, Lord Lewis.”
“Ah.”
Following Wilhelm’s presence, I arrived at the largest mansion in this district, where Wilhelm, who had arrived first, greeted me, seemingly aware of my aura.
“So, this is the representative mansion for the Sixth District?”
“That’s correct. Until now, no one has used this mansion, but we finally have a master to welcome, so we’ve tidied it up.”
“Hmm. By the way, this mansion has been around since the founding of the country, right? For that age, it seems rather too clean?”
“That’s because it was originally built with durable materials, and since the time I first saw you, I had my subordinates working on repairs. All to ensure it would be ready to welcome you someday.”
“When you say ‘first time,’ you mean back in the Magic Kingdom?”
“Yes.”
It seems Wilhelm had been planning to bring me here since the time I used my powers as a king, preparing a livable environment for over a year.
What an outstanding butler he is.
If he weren’t a demon, I’d want to poach him, but since he’s also one of Bagira’s subordinates, that’s likely impossible.
Besides, the butler at the duke’s mansion is just as competent, so I don’t necessarily need him.
Well, that butler is getting older, so continuing his work for long may be difficult; I recall him occasionally complaining about back pain and fatigue, so he might retire in a few years.
“For now, let’s head inside. It seems there’s a lot to discuss.”
“As you wish.”
I then followed Wilhelm inside the mansion; indeed, the materials he mentioned were quite sturdy stone, and I couldn’t spot any damages or broken areas anywhere.
Then, guided to the office, I took a seat in a chair at the back while Wilhelm began his report across the desk.
“Now, let’s hear what you have to say.”
“Yes. First of all, regarding Fon, Rei, and Mei’s education, though it was a short period, I taught them everything necessary. Since Rei and Mei already had experience working as maids, it was only a matter of giving them a bit of instruction on mansion management. As for Fon, since he lost his unnecessary self due to your powers, he absorbed everything I taught him and has been faithfully performing his duties. However, due to his lack of self, he can’t think independently and merely replicates what he has been taught.”
“I see. So, those who lose their self become mere puppets. I understand about Mei and Rei. If you’ve taught them the basics, they’ll figure out how to act on their own, so I’m not worried. I appreciate that.”
“That is my job, so please don’t mention it.”
Wilhelm said not to worry, but I never cared about that from the start, so I just chuckled at his words.
Even so, while Mei and Rei seem fine, Fon might be a bit of a hassle.
It’s convenient that he faithfully follows instructions, yet he becomes difficult to handle since he can’t take action during critical moments.
Well, if I give him detailed commands, he may just act accordingly, so I should test that out later.
Moreover, in the worst case, he can serve as a pawn or a shield, and if he’s obedient to orders, that opens up other strategic uses, so it’s not a big problem.
“Next, regarding the situation in this district, there are currently four small villages established. Each village has its own leader, and they seem to live under an agreement not to interfere or fight with one another.”
“I figured as much. As I came here, I saw the state of the town from atop the wall, and it seemed about right. I couldn’t predict an agreement, though. So, what’s their reaction?”
“Just as you imagined.”
“I see.”
Well, this was as expected.
Yet, to put it bluntly, it’s really annoying.
It’s always the case, newcomers tend to be disliked and looked down upon everywhere they go.
Wilhelm didn’t state it outright, but if he says it was just as I expected, then the leaders of those four villages are likely neutral at best, and basically negative towards me.
“We’ll need to discuss that matter at some point.”
“That would be best.”
“Then, gather the leaders of the villages tomorrow. If that’s impossible, tell them to send a representative.”
“What if they refuse?”
“I’ll check once more, and if they still refuse, ignore them.”
“Is that all?”
“Sure, it’s fine. I never intended to interfere deeply with this place anyway. So just because they chose not to come to me doesn’t mean I’ll do anything about it. That said, the benefits they could have gained will also disappear.”
“I understand. Is that so?”
Originally, I planned to die as soon as I found out how to die, and I have no intention of doing anything regarding the Sixth District or the Valentine Duchy.
However, if I were to leave something behind, it would be the connection between the Demon Domain and the Valentine Duchy, where I would utilize Soware to sell materials and items sourced from the Demon Domain through the Valentine Duchy to the Empire and other countries, with the aim of boosting the overall revenue of the territory, thereby giving back to my father and mother.
Moreover, on the flip side, bringing crops harvested from our territory to the Sixth District for bartering with cooperative demons and then selling that could also be a worthwhile endeavor.
“Then, I will arrange that.”
“Yeah, I’m counting on you.”
After that, I had Wilhelm give me a detailed explanation of the district, but since there hadn’t been any issues without a manager until now, it seemed I wouldn’t need to do anything specific.
“Well, I’m going to rest now, so I’ll leave tomorrow’s matters to you.”
“As you wish.”
Thus, I left everything to Wilhelm and asked Rei, who was cleaning the mansion, to guide me to my room. After using magic to clean myself, I collapsed onto the bed.
“Alright, alright. I wonder how tomorrow will turn out.”
Ideally, I’d prefer things to go smoothly, but if they decide to bite back, I’d handle it like always.
“To prepare for that, I should rest and recover my magic power.”
I muttered that last thought, closed my eyes, and gradually let go of my consciousness.
