Chapter 325

The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Chapter 309: From Dots to Lines

“Who are you…?”

As I heard a voice suddenly from behind, I turned around to find a hunched-over man with a long staff, clad in tattered robes, standing there.

“Could it be… Wool?”

“Oh? You know about me? Have we met somewhere before?”

That man, resembling an old man with a distinctive laugh, was Wool, the demon who had once revived the Hydra in the Kingdom of God Tree and had turned Ryan, who was hitting on Shuvina, into a monster with drugs.

“I see. So the humanoid monsters the academy head was investigating were the former villagers you transformed into monsters with your drugs.”

“How intriguing that you know about my creations. Now I’m even more curious about who you are.”

“Well, just knowing one side of the story won’t get us anywhere. I’ll take off my hood now.”

I had kept my hood on since entering this building to hide my face, but knowing this person was a demon, I used a disguise magic while taking off the hood.

“You are, if I recall correctly, Lord Eir?”

“Correct. It’s been a while.”

“Hehehe. Indeed. I never thought we would meet again in a place like this.”

“I didn’t expect it either.”

I was surprised to find that the Wool I had coincidentally met back then was a subordinate of Pride and the cause of Megina’s disappearance in the past world.

Well, still, it felt like the dots were finally connecting.

In the tenth iteration of the world, after Megina Markuli, known as the strongest of the Empire, went missing, the demon assault on the Ruzenia Empire began shortly after.

The Empire, caught off guard by the sudden attack from unknown humanoid monsters that used magic, lost all territories except for the imperial capital in just six months, and for some reason, the number of humanoid monsters using magic kept increasing uncontrollably.

Despite that, we continued to fight with the remaining forces, barely holding on with the hero’s power added to ours.

Well, I don’t know what happened afterward for a certain reason, but if that hero is indeed the protagonist of this world, he must have turned things around and achieved victory fitting for the story’s conclusion.

I wonder what happened after that…

Anyway, the main reason for that dire situation was none other than those humanoid monsters, which were former humans transformed by drugs, and the one who created those drugs was Wool, standing right in front of me.

And since he was here in this sector, it likely meant that Wool was a subordinate of Pride, suggesting that Pride didn’t care about his subordinates fighting each other because Wool could replenish their forces infinitely with the drugs he made.

“So, why is Lord Eir in this place?”

“Are you asking why I’m in the Demon Domain or why I’m in this underground space?”

“If you could answer both, that would be lovely. Hehehe.”

Well, that’s to be expected.

As for why I’m in the Demon Domain, only Bagira and the other power holders know that I have the power of Gluttony.

“So, you said before that I think like a demon, didn’t you?”

“Yes, I did. If I recall correctly, that was when we first met.”

“Actually, it seems you weren’t entirely wrong. Apparently, I’m awaiting the power of Gluttony.”

As I said that and unleashed my black magic power, Wool gazed at it with keen interest.

“I see. So that’s how it is. Then, you’ve come to meet the other power holders this time, I take it?”

“That’s right.”

“Understood. However, that doesn’t explain why you’re here, does it?”

“Well, after meeting everyone at the recent gathering, I decided to look around at other sectors, and when I passed through this sector, I sensed a familiar reaction that piqued my curiosity, leading me here. And, as expected, I found an acquaintance of mine captured here.”

“When you say acquaintance, do you mean Megina Markuli, who is behind you?”

“Ah yes.”

As expected, Wool hadn’t just happened upon capturing Megina; he had intentionally left traces of demons to lure her here, just as he planned.

“I never expected Lord Eir to know the Annihilation Witch. Just like with the Hydra, what a strange connection we have.”

“It seems so.”

The Annihilation Witch was a nickname given to Megina due to her single-handedly exterminating a massive surge of monsters in the past.

“How did you manage to capture her?”

“Hehehe. That wasn’t so difficult. No matter how proficient Megina Markuli is with magic, she can’t compare to the ancient civilization during its magical heyday. In fact, when I used an artifact to seal magic from that ancient civilization, I easily captured her.”

“I see.”

Indeed, as Wool pointed out, no matter how powerful Megina is as a magician in this world, if someone uses an artifact from the magical heyday of ancient civilization against her, she would be rendered powerless.

Also, I don’t know if she can use fighting spirit, but even if she could, defeating those nearly immortal humanoid monsters would prove challenging for Megina as well.

I struggled quite a bit just to take down one in the past.

“I’ve got the general situation. So, as I said earlier, she’s my acquaintance. Can I have her back?”

“Return her? Hmm. What shall we do about that?”

At first, I thought about not saving Megina, but since she had helped me in various ways, and more importantly, having her around would surely help me deal with any issues that arise in the academy.

In other words, I found that it would ultimately be more advantageous for me to have her around, so I decided to help her this time.

“By the way, what would happen to me if I refused?”

“You wouldn’t die or anything. You’d just get to experience the power of Gluttony. Afterward, you’d become a soulless living doll.”

“Hehehe. The power of Gluttony, huh? As a researcher, that sounds like an enticing prospect. However, I still have other experiments and things I want to do, so it can’t be helped. I’ll just give up this time.”

Surprisingly, or perhaps not, Wool readily accepted without bargaining and tossed me a key for the handcuffs he had taken from inside his robe.

“That was quite easy.”

“Well, I got the research data I wanted. Besides, I originally intended to extract magic from her and use her as a power source, but her magic output has been poor lately. I was considering disposing of her soon.”

“By research data, you mean the kind that allows those who were turned into monsters with your drugs to use magic?”

“Oh? How did you figure that out? That information should be only in my head?”

It seems my guess was correct; Wool’s initial goal for capturing Megina was to use her magic to enable those humanoid monsters to cast spells.

And if he was telling the truth, it would mean he already collected the necessary magic and data for that.

“Well, you owe me nothing for revealing that much.”

“Hehehe. What a pity. Given our relationship, it’s truly unfortunate. If possible, I’d love to crack open your head and see what’s inside.”

“I think the structure is no different from an ordinary human. I figure the contents are the same too.”

If it turned out that there were different things inside my head, I’d be the one surprised.

“Now, I’m taking this person back.”

“Go ahead. I, too, will be returning to my research, so please take care on your way out.”

With those words, Wool disappeared from the room just as he had entered, leaving only me and Megina behind.

“Seriously, leaving an intruder and disappearing like that—what kind of nerve? Well, whatever.”

Normally, I’d expect him to keep an eye on us as we left due to the risk of being ambushed or having something broken, but prioritizing his research and leaving first showed that perhaps researchers are uniformly a bit off their rockers.

I really can’t discern what a researcher like Wool is thinking, making it hard to deal with him.

“Well, I’d like to head back, but taking the academy head with me will definitely cause complications. I guess I’ll have to let her go first.”

Honestly, I wanted to save as much magic as possible for an easier return, but letting her wake up and see me could lead to complications later, so prioritizing her return seems like the right call.

“How about in the academy head’s room? Well then, see you again at the academy.”

With that, I used most of my magic and activated a long-distance teleportation spell, forcibly sending Megina back to the academy without even exchanging a word.

“Ugh, so exhausting.”

Afterward, I was struck with an indescribable fatigue from the rapid loss of magic as I awkwardly made my way out of the underground space. I managed to climb to the wall separating the sectors using body enhancement and fell asleep there for a few hours to recover my magic.
