Chapter 31
Chapter 031 What a Coincidence
She wasn’t sure if this was due to her beastification traits or the influence of succubi.
Because she was currently exhibiting a dual ability state.
Although she intended to primarily showcase her beastification power in front of others, it would be pointless to ignore her succubus side now that she had it; it would just be used less frequently.
So she needed to give Ling Mo a heads-up, or who knows what he’d think if one day he suddenly saw a weapon sprouting from the tip of her tail.
As long as she showed him this form from the start and told him it’s what she looked like after beastification, that would be enough.
Ling Mo had also noticed her tail swaying slightly behind her and was taken aback: “What’s that at the tip of your tail?”
“Maybe it’s a weapon,” Xia Xinyan casually replied, and her tail swung in front of them. “Want to try its sharpness?”
Ling Mo immediately stepped back a bit: “No thanks, it looks pretty fierce.”
He still didn’t know if this game had any pain sensation outside of the dungeons.
Xia Xinyan didn’t push him and simply glossed over the earlier topic. “Shall we start matching now? Or do you want to get familiar with your abilities first?”
Ling Mo shook his head: “Let’s just match directly. It’s better to get familiar with our abilities in the dungeons.”
“Okay.” Xia Xinyan wasted no time, teamed up with him, and began the matching process.
Almost simultaneously, a private message suddenly popped up in front of Xia Xinyan—
【Murong Yue: Why don’t I just be straightforward? Can I not pay?】
This guy seemed to have just exited a dungeon and was finally responding to Xia Xinyan’s previous messages.
Now Xia Xinyan had reason to believe this guy had been playing for a whole day and night.
After thinking for a few seconds, she replied—
【Xia Xinyan: No】
【Murong Yue: … Seriously, no flexibility at all? How about a quarter?】
【Xia Xinyan: No】
【Murong Yue: No, sis, come on, it’s about time to cut some slack. To put it bluntly, we didn’t set any agreement, right? If I just block you now, what can you do about it?】
【Xia Xinyan: You can try it】
There was a brief pause on the other side.
【Murong Yue: If I try… what will happen to you?】
【Xia Xinyan: I will kill you every time I see you】
【Murong Yue: …】
【Murong Yue: Transferring you 2000 game points】
Seeing the game points credited, Xia Xinyan smirked.
【Xia Xinyan: Want to join me for a dungeon run?】
【Murong Yue: No, no thanks, I’ve been playing all day. I’m logging off now.】
After sending that message, the other party logged off.
—Or maybe they went invisible.
Xia Xinyan didn’t bother about what she was up to and directly dumped the 2000 game points into her own attributes, leaving none behind.
Ling Mo sat next to her, looking at the sea while waiting for their dungeon match.
“It’s been several minutes already, and we still haven’t matched with anyone? Is nobody playing?”
Hearing this, Xia Xinyan shook her head: “No, it’s just that there aren’t many players who’ve cleared the first dungeon yet; the system needs time to match players with our strength.”
Right now, the game hadn’t fully launched, and the number of players wasn’t high. Among those who experienced pain in the battle zone and stayed, even fewer had cleared the first dungeon, so it made sense they were having a slow match.
The system aims to match players of similar strength in early game dungeons because early players are relatively weak; the effect of strong players leading weaker ones isn’t very pronounced. If the strength gap is too wide, dungeon difficulty becomes hard to set, especially between players with activated and non-activated abilities—it’s like two different worlds.
In later stages, there wouldn’t be such restrictions in dungeon matching as the game will naturally guide stronger players to help weaker ones, trying to uplift the overall player strength, making later dungeon difficulties unfriendly for players who fall behind. This is one reason Xia Xinyan must bring Ling Mo to secure positions in the top tier.
However, this time the matching didn’t take too long; in ten minutes, they finally entered the preparation hall.
Still that big white room or shall I say, lounge, with eight players total including Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo, and coincidentally, they encountered a familiar face—Murong Yue.
Watching Xia Xinyan sit down beside her, Murong Yue’s expression stiffened for a moment.
“What a coincidence,” Xia Xinyan said with a smile, “I thought you logged off.”
Ling Mo glanced at Murong Yue and sat down on Xia Xinyan’s other side, not interfering in their conversation.
Murong Yue silently moved a bit away from them: “I’ve already given you your game points; there’s nothing else, right?”
“Just wanted to say hello,” Xia Xinyan replied amiably, “We’ve met twice now; I guess that makes us friends, right?”
Murong Yue: “…”
She didn’t feel that someone who would say “I will kill you every time I see you” could be considered a friend.
Plus, she had a hunch that Xia Xinyan’s previous message wasn’t a joke.
While they were chatting, another person approached Ling Mo.
“Old Ling?”
At the sound, Ling Mo instinctively turned his head, and what he saw was a… chubby guy.
Not really fat; just a bit rounded—similar in build to Hao Nan, but he didn’t have that full-on socialite vibe. This guy’s appearance was somewhat endearing, leaving a good impression.
Most importantly, Ling Mo knew this person.
“Zhang Da Ri? Is that really you?”
“Yep, it’s me, Da Ri!” The chubby guy grinned excitedly and plopped down next to Ling Mo, patting his shoulder. “Didn’t expect me to come back alive! Damn, I should’ve listened to your advice and picked a better major, sigh…”
“What’s wrong? Regretting it?” Ling Mo raised an eyebrow.
This guy, named Zhang Da Ri, was Ling Mo’s high school classmate, and they’d been pretty close back then, but since they went to different universities, they hadn’t kept in touch.
Heard he picked civil engineering, and Ling Mo had joked that he was quite the brave warrior.
Who knew they’d reunite in a game?
Plus, this guy was still in his original form.
“Enough about that,” the chubby guy waved his hand. “After graduation, it’s time to run away with my bucket; maybe I’ll go home and raise pigs.”
After a pause, he glanced over Ling Mo’s shoulder at Xia Xinyan: “This wouldn’t be your girlfriend, right?”
“Uh…” Ling Mo opened his mouth, momentarily unsure how to respond.
But Xia Xinyan was quite straightforward and nodded: “Yep, Ling Mo and I are officially together now. Let me introduce myself, my name is Xia Xinyan.”
“Xia Xinyan?” The chubby guy raised an eyebrow and suddenly smiled. “Hey, isn’t the heiress of the Xia Family Group also named Xia Xinyan? Is this girl sharing a name with that Xia heiress? She looks like she’s got a…”
The atmosphere fell silent.
The chubby guy’s expression transformed from playful to horrified in a second: “You can’t be for real…”
“Just sharing a name,” Xia Xinyan said with a laugh, shaking her head. “Come on, when would the Xia Family’s young lady have time to play games?”
The chubby guy immediately sighed with relief: “Yeah, I almost thought I was encountering a big shot.”
Ling Mo: “…”
