Chapter 306
Chapter 306 The Demon’s Combat Method
After truly facing this group of monsters, Ling Mo finally understood what Xia Xinyan meant when she said these monsters had various unusual abilities that made them hard to deal with.
The three monsters he and Xia Xinyan were up against included one that seemed able to manipulate gravity. Every time he tried to get close for a melee attack, the suddenly deflected gravity would send him flying back. However, that creature seemed to only possess this one method of repelling them, rather than manipulating gravity in intricate ways—perhaps this was also related to the monsters’ intelligence, as they certainly didn’t look very bright.
The other two had different abilities; one could control the ground… or rather the earth element, but its range didn’t seem far. Once they got within a certain distance, spikes would suddenly erupt from the ground trying to attack them—but the interesting part was, as soon as they were pushed back by the deflected gravity, those spikes that emerged a moment too late would just miss entirely.
The last one was a sound wave attacker. It was quite short but had an extraordinarily thick neck, and every time it opened its mouth to roar, it would unleash an extremely piercing sound wave that even made Ling Mo and Xia Xinyan feel a bit dizzy.
But what was even more amusing was that… the sound wave attack caused indiscriminate damage—not just to its two nearby companions, but even to the fire-breathing monster that had already started fighting with the fat guy, and even to itself; it seemed to have a greater effect on its allies.
How to put it… if you look at the abilities of these monsters one by one, each could match the abilities of a few human strongmen; however, they clearly didn’t match up to human intelligence, and they wouldn’t cooperate with each other at all.
So after a while, the battle descended into a bizarre situation where Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo couldn’t get close for hand-to-hand combat, and those monsters, despite their terrible coordination, posed no actual threat to them.
Instead, they often ended up stunning the fire-breathing monster that was fighting the fat guy from afar with their sound wave attacks, only for the fat guy to then zap it back to reality with a thunderbolt.
But judging by the fat guy’s fighting process, these monsters clearly had an extreme tolerance for pain. No matter how many lightning bolts the fat guy struck it with, that monster didn’t sway one bit.
It’s possible that monster was naturally immune to lightning.
Meanwhile, Ling Mo’s patience was wearing thin.
He was just about to comprehend the attack pattern of the gravity-manipulating monster and it was time to enter the next phase.
Taking a deep breath, he glanced sideways at Xia Xinyan, “Xinyan, just wait here. I’ll handle the rest.”
To crack this tense situation, he needed to use some more intense combat methods. He didn’t want to risk hurting Xia Xinyan, so it was better to tackle this alone.
Initially, he didn’t intend to be the one to blow things up, as this place was not like the Battle Zone Dungeon where they didn’t have to consider any aftermath during combat, such as cleaning up the battlefield. They were currently on the outskirts of the stronghold, and it was very likely that soon it would be designated as part of the stronghold, so causing a scene might complicate their future expansion.
Ling Mo had hoped to avoid this hassle.
But now it appeared that the more practical approach was to minimize the trouble as much as possible.
Xia Xinyan studied him for a moment before simply nodding, “Okay, be careful, Mo Mo.”
“I will.” Ling Mo replied, conjuring a missile launcher.
He then aimed at the sound wave monster and launched a projectile.
Seeing this, the gravity-manipulating monster once again used its gravity distortion ability, but this time, the change in gravity had minimal effect on the projectile with its own kinetic energy—it didn’t alter its trajectory even slightly and struck the still-dazed sound wave monster directly.
BOOM——!!
The explosion immediately engulfed the sound wave monster along with the nearby gravity monster. Ling Mo didn’t hesitate; he charged at the remaining spike monster.
With the assistance of his battle armor, the spike monster couldn’t land a hit on him at all, and at the last moment, the gravity monster reacted and attempted to deflect the gravity, but Ling Mo activated the propulsion system on his battle armor almost simultaneously and slammed a fist right into that guy’s nasal bone.
Finally breaking into point-blank range, the ensuing battle transformed into an absurdly childlike yet violent brawl.
Although Ling Mo now had impressive hand-to-hand combat skills, against these irregular humanoid monsters averaging over two meters tall, he didn’t seem to make much of an impact. So his current fighting style was a mix of brawling with a bit of blowing things up, completely ignoring reason.
Those three monsters didn’t back down either, engaging in high-intensity free fighting right then and there.
That rocket he fired seemed to successfully injure the sound wave monster’s neck, but it didn’t affect its mobility. However, once Ling Mo got within a certain distance, the three monsters seemed to have completely forgotten that they also had powers to use—Ling Mo essentially forced them back to the most primal level of combat, while he maintained his original fighting style.
Maybe this was what IQ suppression was.
Xia Xinyan had once again become just an onlooker.
Along with Monica.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, your boyfriend’s improvement is really fast,” commented Monica, who had somehow appeared beside Xia Xinyan, then tilted her head and smiled at Xia Xinyan. “Are you satisfied?”
“Do you think that kind of question is interesting?” Xia Xinyan shot back, locking eyes with her.
Monica chuckled, “I just think your situation is quite interesting—by the way, given how you are, I’m really curious about what kind of feelings you have for Ling Mo.”
“That’s none of your business.”
“But I’m quite curious; isn’t that a valid reason?”
Xia Xinyan stared back for a moment, then countered, “I’m also quite curious about where these demons came from. Can you tell me?”
Monica raised an eyebrow, “If I answer, will you answer my question?”
“Mm-hmm.” Xia Xinyan nodded.
Then Monica didn’t hesitate at all: “I don’t know.”
Xia Xinyan: “…”
“Alright, I answered; now it’s your turn.” Monica smiled.
“No comment; I’m done answering.” Xia Xinyan had no intention of engaging further.
Monica scratched her nose, “I really don’t know the origin of these guys; otherwise, I would definitely let you know—didn’t I always share what I knew with you before?”
“So you don’t understand anything about these monsters at all?”
“Well, not entirely,” Monica thought for two seconds before replying, “The properties of these creatures are quite peculiar; they definitely don’t belong to this world, but I’ve never seen any known life forms with such distortions. I can guarantee they weren’t born naturally… it’s very likely they were born from destruction.”
