Chapter 251

The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Chapter 244: The Harbinger of Death

◇◇◇

As Fiera and the others began their battle, Dōna also started a game of tag with the knights, throwing the already chaotic hall into further turmoil.

“What’s happening outside the castle?!”

“I-I’m not sure, but Lord Sajibel and Lord Harlan are handling it. It should calm down soon.”

“Calm down soon, you say?! Then why is it so uproarious?!”

A shouty upper noble was met with the flustered attempts of lower nobles and servants trying to pacify him.

In the midst of this assembly in the royal castle’s hall, Kamael appeared silently.

“There are more people here than I thought. This might be a bit of a hassle. Should have brought Mashuri along.”

Mashuri was currently scouting for places where the royal family might be hiding, acting on Kamael’s orders.

As Kamael gauged the surroundings with a reluctant expression, a noble noticed him and approached, speaking with sharp eyes.

“You! How did you get in here?”

“Huh? Are you talking about me?”

“Yes. Really, bringing a child to a situation like this, what kind of upbringing do the parents have?”

“Haha. Parents, huh? I agree with you there. My parents are truly worthless scum. I’ve never received decent education.”

As the noble uttered the word “parents,” Kamael’s demeanor shifted, revealing a dark smile, causing the noble to step back warily.

“By the way, I have something I want to ask.”

“W-what is it…?”

“Where is the king right now?”

“The king? You mean His Majesty? I don’t know who you are, but it’s utterly disrespectful to address him so casually. You won’t get away without punishment.”

“Respect? Punishment? Whatever. Just tell me where he is. I’ve got a really bad mood right now.”

Kamael, who had initially radiated a laid-back air, was now emanating a threatening aura, causing everyone in the hall to fix their gaze on him.

“You better answer while I’m still being nice. Otherwise, even if I don’t intend to kill you, my hands might slip.”

“H-The king should be in the throne room. There’s a hidden passage there.”

“So you’re planning to escape from there, huh? Haha. The king trying to run away first; how human of him.”

“W-Will you help us?”

“Oh right, I said earlier that I’m not planning to kill you. So just stay quiet for a bit.”

Kamael smiled sweetly and cast a spell, causing a black circle to appear at the feet of the nobleman and everyone else watching their exchange.

“W-What is this?!”

“Ahhh! Help me!!”

The men screamed and tried to flee, but it was as if they were bound by something, unable to leave the circle, and one by one, all the nobles and servants were swallowed up as if sinking into a swamp.

“Don’t worry. I’ll let everyone out later.”

With only Kamael left in the hall, he spoke with an expression devoid of emotion toward where the nobleman had just been, then walked towards the path leading to the throne.

“Here we are.”

When Kamael reached the door leading to the throne room and opened it, he found knights, mages, and assassins standing in a circle, as if waiting for him.

“Wow, there are still this many?”

Kamael had assumed most of the knights would have gone to deal with the chaos caused by Fiera, but it seemed the king of this country was surprisingly cautious and kept plenty of bodyguards nearby.

“You! This is the king’s chamber! This is unbelievably rude!”

As Kamael found it troublesome, the man seated on the throne shouted, looking down at him with an attitude as if proclaiming himself king.

“What? I thought you’d run away. But it seems you were waiting for me. Or you think you can win, so there’s no need to escape?”

Seeing that they were waiting in perfect condition, it seemed the kings believed they could win against Kamael without fleeing, exuding confidence in their victory.

“Did you think you could win by attacking with this number? Hmm, no. Your confidence seemingly comes from the man beside you.”

“How dare you call me ‘you’? Such impudence! You must want to die!”

The king turned red with fury at being addressed in such a manner, but Kamael ignored him and turned his gaze to the man beside him.

The man had green hair and stood nearly 2.5 meters tall, his muscles on his neck, arms, chest, and legs bulging, making him appear even larger.

“You’re quite strong. I’d say you’re about SS rank in adventurer levels, right?”

“Hmm. It seems you have an eye for assessing one’s strength.”

“Well, I’m not too shabby myself.”

“Though I’m not an adventurer, I believe there’s an SS-ranked adventurer I’ve killed before. In that regard, I’d be right to consider my strength above that of an SS-ranked adventurer.”

“Huh.”

The presence the man exuded was immense, comparable to that of an SS-ranked adventurer.

Naturally, this world had many adventurers and hidden strong individuals.

These individuals might be merciless killers, freedom seekers averse to restraints, or those with a criminal past, hiding for various reasons.

And the man before Kamael was one such person, who enjoyed battling strong opponents and had stayed hidden from the world because he couldn’t kill his foes as an adventurer; he engaged in hunting adventurers instead.

“Well, it’s clear you’re strong.”

“Hmph. It’s too late to be afraid now, isn’t it? You’re already before me. Don’t think it’ll be easy to die.”

The man increased his intimidating aura, causing nearby knights and the king to pale with fear.

However, Kamael paid no attention, seeming incredibly bored as he stood there.

“Sigh. This is really annoying. I could kill you with ease. After all, the order to spare you is ridiculous. Does he even know the meaning of ‘kill’ in assassin terms? I’m obeying his command because he said he’d grant my wishes, but honestly, it’s getting cumbersome.”

Kamael seemed to be accumulating stress regarding Lewis, his complaints about the word “annoying” increasingly directed at him.

“What are you babbling about? Have you lost your mind in the face of death?”

“Huh? Oh, sorry for neglecting you. I was just pondering whether to kill you. I’ve been ordered to capture you alive, you see. Also, the fact that I’m crazy has always been true, so don’t sweat it.”

“Capture alive? What condescension you must have!”

“You’re right. Asking an assassin like me to capture someone alive is downright ridiculous.”

“Huh? You don’t think you can capture me alive?”

“Huh? That in itself isn’t difficult. You might be strong, but you’re weaker than me. Capturing you alive is easy. Still, it annoys me to follow every command he gives. So, I’ve decided everyone here will die, not just the king.”

“Hmph. Such arrogance. I don’t know where your confidence comes from, but I’ll make you regret your arrogance.”

The man stepped forward, but for some reason, he couldn’t take another step, and even the knights who had been on alert remained motionless.

“W-What’s wrong? Why aren’t you moving?! Kill him quickly!”

“Sorry. That’s impossible. He’s already dead.”

“W-What nonsense! Hey!”

The king, who had stood up from the throne, yelled, shaking the shoulder of a nobleman nearby. The noble’s head slowly tilted and fell to the ground with a thud.

“H-Hiii?!”

Seeing his trusted man die before him, the king was shocked and fell back in fear, causing the heads of the surrounding knights to drop one after another.

Then, blood gushed out from the cut, raining down in the throne room, staining the king’s white garments red.

“See? I told you everyone was dead. I’m pretty strong, huh?”

“T-That black scythe—could it be, ‘The Harbinger of Death’?!”

“Oh, you know about me? I must be getting famous now.”

Kamael grinned while holding a black scythe, the origins of which were unknown, while the king trembled in terror.

‘The Harbinger of Death’ was a title that called upon Kamael from other nations, a figure who wielded a scythe unfitting for an assassin, as he approached and killed his targets openly, leaving no survivors.

However, he would never kill an innocent person, and those who had seen him kill began to call him by that name over time.

“But this isn’t what I heard. I was told the person had the appearance of a little girl…”

“Ahaha. I’m technically an assassin, you know. I wouldn’t show my true form, would I? The form you see now might just be a fake.”

“Y-You mean…?”

“Well, only I know the truth, and that’s enough. So, this concludes our conversation. If there is an afterlife, make sure to get along with your buddies who just died. Bye-bye!”

“W-Wait…”

The king attempted to seek help from Kamael, but before he could finish, Kamael swung his scythe, causing the king’s head to join the others on the ground.

“Sigh. Finally done. Now to take care of the rest of the royal family… Huh?”

Having killed the king as planned, Kamael began to move to eliminate the remaining royals involved in the war.

However, at that moment, something broke through the wall of the throne room and fell before Kamael.

“Haha. Is this telling me to hurry up?”

What fell in front of him was Harlan, the Mage Corps leader, who had been engaged in battle with Fiera outside, implicitly conveying a message that Fiera had finished her side, prompting Kamael to wrap things up quickly.

“Sigh. Really, they’re such troublesome kids. Fine, I’ll finish this quickly too. Mashuri!”

“Yes!”

“Where’s the rest of the royal family?”

“I found them. I’ll guide you.”

“Okay, please do.”

As Mashuri said she had located the remaining royals, Kamael followed her out of the throne room but took one last look back at the corpses of the kings.

“Honestly, I wish they’d all just die.”

“Kamael-sama? Is something the matter?”

“It’s nothing. Now, shall we go?”

With that, Kamael was guided by Mashuri to where the remaining royals were, executing all of them involved in the war, while leaving the uninvolved children under Mashuri’s care after casting a spell on them.

After reuniting with Fiera and the others, who had captured all the remaining servants and assassins in the castle, Kamael and company utilized Sephiria’s eye ability to separate those involved in the war from those who weren’t.

Those involved were assigned to Mashuri’s subordinates and transferred to Saramāju, while the uninvolved were turned into Kamael’s pawns through his ability.

Finally, instructing his new pawns to capture those involved in the war back at their territory and transfer them to Saramāju, they completed all of Lewis’s directives.

“I want to go home quickly. I want to see El.”

At Fiera’s words, all the women immediately prepared to leave without resting, but Kamael somehow managed to halt that for just one day, and the next day, they set out for the Valentine Duchy.

Notably, throughout the journey to the Valentine Duchy, Sephiria remained cradled by Fiera, who felt guilty and continuously cast recovery magic on everyone as an apology.

As a result, Kamael couldn’t even say he was tired and pushed on with minimal breaks, continuing to run toward the Valentine Duchy.

Thus ends the coup d’état arc.

Thank you for keeping up for so long!

As for what’s next, I plan to insert a past arc of one or two chapters as an interlude.

Regarding the past arc, I’ve been asked to compile it all in one post since earlier, so I aim to finish writing it before posting.

After that, since the cast has grown, I’ll interject a character introduction to sort the situation and then return to the main story.

Some of you might already be imagining what’s coming next, but it’ll be a story centered on that person!

Hence, I’ve also noted down the power gap between the current Lewis and him.

So, I hope you’ll enjoy the upcoming past arc as well, but if not, I’ll see you in the main story!

Lastly, if you found this chapter interesting, think Lewis is cool, like Kamael-kun, or felt gleeful seeing Shudo-kun get beaten up, I’d be delighted to receive stars, hearts, reviews, and comments from you!
