Chapter 244
Chapter 244: Bred Awry
In the moment when the building collapsed, a massive mecha suddenly appeared at the crash site of the helicopter. The thrusters on the back of the mecha activated simultaneously, allowing it to leap over the fallen building and the dinosaur inside, landing heavily on the street ahead, causing a large crack to form in the road below.
The mecha was procured by Ling Mo—not materialized, but rather a piece of loot he had obtained earlier.
Speaking of which, he actually already had the ability to materialize, but it took quite some time to fully bring forth such high-tech items, which he certainly didn’t have in that moment of crisis.
Moreover, even though he pulled it out from his spatial watch, it had already consumed most of the watch’s energy.
Then, the mecha slowly turned around to face the collapsed building.
Inside the cockpit, Ling Mo held Xia Xinyan with one arm, both of them squeezed together in a rather ambiguous position.
After all, it was a single-pilot mecha; the space inside was already small, making it quite cramped for two people.
As for Bai Yu… he was caught in the mecha’s hand—thankfully, he had put on that protective suit, so the violent impact didn’t injure him much.
“Are you okay?” Ling Mo glanced down at Xia Xinyan in his arms.
Xia Xinyan paused and nodded, “I’m fine. Now, let’s see your performance.”
After speaking, she transformed into a black cat and nestled into his embrace, instantly making the cockpit feel more spacious.
But it left Ling Mo feeling a bit empty.
He didn’t really like Xia Xinyan’s ability to turn into a cat.
However, now was not the time to think about that. He controlled the mecha to set Bai Yu down, then walked toward the rubble of the collapsed building.
The mecha, while large for an average person, was likely not even half the size of that zombie dinosaur. Even from inside the cockpit, the sight of the slowly rising zombie dinosaur among the debris was quite oppressive.
Ling Mo couldn’t shake the feeling that this creature seemed even larger than when they had last separated.
“It seems I must find a way to deal with it,” he took a deep breath.
He had already thought of a way to tackle this beast.
Xia Xinyan nodded and tilted her head to look outside.
She was quite curious about how Ling Mo planned to deal with it. Killing all its cells in an instant was no easy task.
Then, Ling Mo made his move.
He commanded the mecha to charge towards the zombie dinosaur at full speed. At that moment, the dinosaur had also noticed the metal figure and abandoned the unknown fate of the fat guy, turning to charge at the mecha with an angry roar.
Ling Mo didn’t bother with any defensive maneuvers. Just as the two were about to collide, he swiftly ducked to avoid the dinosaur’s bite, then tightened his grip around the zombie giant dragon. The thrusters on the back immediately revved up to full power, propelling the dinosaur skyward with all his might, rapidly gaining altitude.
The zombie dinosaur roared, trying to break free from the mecha’s grip, but the mecha’s defense was commendable, fending off all its biting attacks.
Seeing that they had reached the critical height, the mecha’s system malfunction alarm blared in the cockpit. Ling Mo locked in the mecha’s posture, exited control mode, held Xia Xinyan tightly, and opened the cockpit. As he jumped out, he turned and stuffed a nuclear bomb back into the cockpit.
He didn’t believe this b would survive the explosion.
After leaving the mecha, he quickly manifested layers of protective barriers around himself and Xia Xinyan until they stacked up to over twenty layers. Suddenly, a dull crash resounded from above, and simultaneously, the immense force began to tear apart the outer layers of protection, accelerating their descent several times over.
When the last layer of defense showed cracks, Ling Mo instantly dispelled the nuclear bomb’s manifestation effects—including the subsequent shockwave and the undispersed nuclear radiation—vanishing in an instant.
Next, he dissipated all the outer protective layers and reformed a jetpack, slowly reducing his falling speed until he landed safely.
At this moment, Bai Yu was sitting by the roadside, staring blankly at the sky.
Ling Mo let out a sigh and smiled, “Are you okay? The situation was urgent, so I may have been a bit rough. Don’t take it to heart.”
“Ah? I’m fine…” Bai Yu turned towards them at the sound, “It’s just that I can’t see very well right now—there’s a problem with my visual module. I’m fixing it. What was that bomb you threw?”
Ling Mo: “…”
He had forgotten to give a heads-up.
That was the most powerful bomb he had used so far. It wasn’t that manifesting it was particularly difficult; the problem was that the usage scenarios were too limited—he couldn’t instantaneously airdrop the nuclear bomb outside the lethal radius, and that situation was his absolute limit.
However, Bai Yu had unintentionally witnessed a nuclear explosion… that was on him.
Xia Xinyan looked up at the sky.
The explosion had scattered all the clouds, forcing the weather into a perfectly clear sky. As for the zombie dinosaur at the center of the explosion? It was probably vaporized.
She realized that Ling Mo really was ruthless.
More ruthless than her.
In her previous life, aside from the one time before her death when she dared to do something so reckless, she never once thought of such an approach.
She was increasingly puzzled about just what kind of person Ling Mo had become.
Could it be… that she had raised him wrong?
That shouldn’t be the case.
“Wow, brothers, I’m back,” a familiar voice interrupted her thoughts. She turned to see the fat guy approaching, looking disheveled, “Did that guy get taken care of? I heard the boss making noise earlier, and I thought it was the end of the world.”
“Big sun…” Bai Yu coughed lightly, stood up, and wanted to walk towards him, “You honestly tell me, did you do that on purpose? Did you deliberately lead that guy towards us? I…”
—And then, he tripped over a crack in the ground and fell flat on his face.
Fat guy: “…What are you doing?”
“He just witnessed a nuclear blast directly and probably went blind,” Ling Mo explained.
“Nuclear blast? You… wow, impressive.” The fat guy was at a loss for words, “Are you okay, Bai Yu? Can you recover?”
“Almost fixed,” Bai Yu simply sat down, “Wait, let me reset my form system.”
Then, they watched as Bai Yu transformed into a girl right in front of them.
“All set,” Bai Yu opened her eyes and exhaled, “The new vision module isn’t compatible with the serial number, so I’ll have to make do for now.”
The fat guy’s mouth twitched: “So, your default appearance is this?”
“Wasn’t it you who tricked me into becoming this? Now you want to act like you don’t remember?” Bai Yu rolled her eyes, exuding a charm that sent shivers down the fat guy’s spine.
Then the fat guy turned his head: “Ahem, let’s get back to business—what happened back there wasn’t my fault. I was just drawn over by the sounds of the crash. I wanted to ask where you guys were, but Ling Mo hung up on me, so what could I do? I didn’t know you were upstairs.”
