Chapter 237
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 230: Love Talk?
◇◇◇
After Lewis and the others left, Iris and Miria, whether out of anger for letting the prey escape or seeking revenge for their fallen comrades, were facing a horde of demons alone, letting out battle cries as they attacked.
“How annoying, isn’t it, Miria? Is there no easier way to take them down?”
“There is, but if we use that method, in the worst-case scenario, everyone except me will die.”
“So that includes me too, huh?”
“Yes.”
“I see. I don’t have poison resistance like you, so I guess we have to keep defeating them the hard way.”
While the two were conversing casually, the attacks from the demons continued. Iris pushed them back with water pressure using mist magic, crushing them, while she stabbed them from above and below with her sword to ensure kills.
Miria held a dagger in her right hand, evading or deflecting the demon’s claw swipes and cutting or touching them as she waited for the right moment to clap her hands.
Just by doing that, the demons writhed in agony and fell to the ground, steadily reducing their numbers.
“You can use martial arts too, huh, Miria?”
“Just a bit. I can’t compare to Lord Lewis or Fiera.”
“Heh, if you’re comparing to those two, most people wouldn’t stand a chance.”
“That’s true.”
“Hmm. Still, this isn’t very fun.”
As Iris said, with their strength having risen too much, the lesser A-rank demons were no match for them. They were just killing demons as if it were a task.
“Then, since we have some time, how about we talk about love?”
“Love talk? But, we both like the same person, right? Is that even a love talk? Watch out behind you!”
“Gyaaa!!!”
“Thank you. Then how about we take turns sharing what we like about Lord Lewis? The first one who can’t speak loses, and the loser has to forfeit their turn for the request regarding the reward we get from Lord Lewis this time. Coming from below!”
“Graaaagh!”
The two began a conversation that was not fitting for the grim situation, all while covering each other’s blind spots and efficiently taking out the demons.
“I’m in. I’ll go first. I like the gap between Lord Lewis during battles and peaceful times. His fighting form is cool and makes my heart race, while his lazy demeanor during peaceful times is just so cute that I feel like I want to spoil him.”
“I completely understand that feeling. I also take care of Lord Lewis regularly, and he looks particularly adorable right after waking up; there’s something about him that makes me want to pamper him.”
“That’s just plain unfair.”
“Hehe. It’s a privilege of being a maid, you know? Now, it’s my turn. I like that cold gaze he gives to enemies he has designated as such. There’s just something thrilling about it.”
“That’s definitely true. He usually looks indifferent to anyone else, but his eyes turn icy toward those he acknowledges as enemies. Whenever I see those eyes, it’s not fear I feel but rather a sensation of being captivated by the lack of mercy in them. I remember when he tortured someone from the Dragon Kin in that space created by an artifact; he looked so cool, and just watching made my heart race.”
“I wanted to see that too.”
The two continued their out-of-place conversation while disposing of the demons without wasting any effort, and within minutes, they had eliminated all the demons without a scratch.
“Here they come.”
“Yeah, unfortunately, it looks like this is it for now.”
After dealing with all the lesser demons, two large demons, about 2.5 meters tall, appeared before the two, and Iris and Miria, who had been talking about what they liked about Lewis, changed to serious expressions different from before.
“Gya-ha-ha! Humans! And women, too! Harad!”
“Right! And there are two of them! We’re also two, so we can share! Garad!”
“Exactly! But if I had my way, I’d want to eat both! Harad!”
“Gya-ha-ha! Then let’s split them in half! Garad!”
The two, calling each other Harad and Garad, looked similar enough to be twin demons, but their grotesque grins and the way they looked at Iris and Miria were unmistakably that of a superior being.
“Harad! I want the upper body of the green-haired girl!”
“Garad! I want the upper body of the blonde girl!”
“Gya-ha-ha! Then I’ll give you the lower body! Harad!”
“Gya-ha-ha! Then I’ll give you the lower body! Garad…”
“How noisy.”
As the two demons discussed who would eat which part, a frustrated Iris conjured a sword in front of Harad, who said he’d eat her, and as she was about to say she’d give Garad the lower half, she stabbed the water sword into his mouth.
“If your unnecessary chatter is gone, then there won’t be any mouths left to eat me. First, one down.”
“Gya-ha-ha! It hurts! It hurts, blonde girl!”
“…Eh?”
Stabbed in the mouth by Iris’s water sword, Harad, instead of falling backward, calmly pulled the sword out before bursting into loud laughter again.
“Shh!!”
Iris, who thought she had assuredly killed him, halted for a moment at the unexpected turn of events, but Miria didn’t hesitate to slip behind Garad and stab him in the back with a poisoned dagger.
“Whoa! What a powerful poison! Green-haired girl! Your poison is amazing!”
However, Garad, even though he spewed blood from his mouth, showed no signs of dying; in fact, he went as far as to compliment the poison Miria had made.
“What is the meaning of this?”
“I don’t know. If my poison is ineffective, it could just be that he has high poison resistance, but Iris’s attack should have been a lethal strike. Yet, it seems that doesn’t have any effect either.”
Just as Miria analyzed, if it were just that her poison was ineffective, it would mean Garad had high resistance, and they could prepare a countermeasure for it, but in Harad’s case, he was still laughing out loud despite getting stabbed through the head.
“His healing ability seems pretty high, but that can’t be the only reason. Otherwise, he should have died when his head was pierced.”
“Yes. But usually, there shouldn’t be a phenomenon without reason. Therefore, there must be some reason for them not to die.”
“That’s true. Then, it would be best to test a variety of things.”
“Gya-ha-ha! Sounds great! Let’s have some fun!”
“Since it’s fun to play, let’s enjoy ourselves a lot!”
Deciding to investigate the secrets of Harad and Garad, Iris and Miria attacked the two demons using various magic and different poisons.
However, while they could inflict wounds, they could not kill, and whether they tried to crush them with water pressure or rot them with poison, time would revert everything back to normal.
Furthermore, Harad and Garad weren’t just sitting idly to take attacks; they retaliated, swinging their enormous cleavers at Iris and Miria.
“Haa, haa… this is quite bothersome.”
“Yes. At this rate, we might run out of stamina and magic first.”
Originally not skilled in close combat, Iris was barely managing to dodge the attacks, while Miria, who didn’t have much magic power, was also pushed to the brink of running out of mana.
Even so, having been through various experiences together, the two kept their thoughts calm, feeling rather like their heads cooled down the more they were pressured.
“What else haven’t we tried?”
“Crushing, stabbing, poisoning, and stopping the heart with paralysis poison. We’ve tried various things, but what we haven’t tried yet is suicide.”
“Suicide? You mean letting them attack themselves?”
“Yes.”
“But isn’t that impossible? There’s no way those demons would consider dying.”
“I think so too. So another possibility could be mutual fighting or that we need to take them both down at once.”
“I see. Twins are akin to mirror images. And if they’re demons, it wouldn’t be surprising if they were connected by some sort of power.”
“Then, which should we try first?”
“Let’s go for mutual fighting first. I’ll use magic to provoke a fight between them. Miria, distract the two of them.”
“Understood.”
Once the plan was decided, Miria threw the dagger she held in her right hand toward Garad’s eye and charged toward Harad.
While Iris and Miria had been testing various things from their experiences, it seemed that these demons were confident they wouldn’t die; they showed no signs of trying to avoid their opponent’s attacks.
As a result, Miria’s thrown dagger pierced Garad’s left eye, and as she jumped into Harad’s embrace, she slashed both his eyes.
Then, mid-fall, she twisted her body and threw her left-handed dagger once more at Garad, this time stabbing him in the right eye.
“‘Mirror of the Water Surface’”
While Garad and Harad were blinded, Iris created a thin layer of water between the two, reflecting a hazy image of both herself and Miria.
“Gya-ha-ha! This time, I won’t let you go!”
The first to regain sight, Harad, caught a glimpse of Iris’s image on the water surface and swung down his giant cleaver.
That attack slew Garad’s neck, who was behind Iris, and with a thud, Garad’s head fell to the ground.
“Hey, Harad! That was my head! What are you doing?!”
“Huh? Ah, sorry, Garad! Looks like I mistook you!”
However, Garad nonchalantly picked up his fallen head and placed it back on his neck, returning to his former state as if nothing had happened.
“Mutual fighting didn’t work either.”
“Then let’s try the last method of taking them down simultaneously. If this doesn’t work, we’ll have no means to defeat them, so let’s buy time until Lord Lewis returns. I believe that’s the best we can do.”
“Sounds good. I’ll deliver the final blow, so Miria, in the meantime, keep their attention. Your dagger may have difficulty finishing them with one hit, and with poison, there’s a chance for discrepancies.”
“Understood.”
With the final plan laid out, Iris and Miria, just like before, had Miria use her speed to distract Garad and Harad.
“Gya-ha-ha! Fast, fast!”
“But! Their attacks aren’t much!”
Continuing to evade the two’s attacks in a dance-like manner, Miria kept gathering their ire while feeling a concentrated magic force emanating from Iris.
“I hope this ends our battle with you.”
“Too bad! We’re immortal! There’s no end!”
“Too bad! We’re invincible! There’s no end!”
“Then let’s see if those words are truly correct.”
“‘Two-headed Water Serpent’”
The moment Iris cast the spell, a serpent with two heads simultaneously bit off the heads of Garad and Harad.
With their heads lost, Garad and Harad toppled to the ground, and from their wounds, blue liquid spilled out, with their bodies rotting away like ash showing no signs of rising again.
“It seems that taking them down simultaneously was the right approach. When it’s over, it’s surprisingly anticlimactic.”
“Yes. However, they were opponents I couldn’t have defeated alone. I’m grateful for your presence, Iris.”
“Hehe. I feel the same way. Without you, Miria, I’d likely have run out of magic and ended up in their stomach by now. You helped me immensely.”
“Thank you. Now, shall we head out?”
“Right. We need to bear witness to the conclusion of the path chosen by Princess Sharueina, so let’s head to the royal castle.”
Having completed their role, Iris and Miria began walking toward the royal castle to see what choice the tormented and wounded Sharueina had made.
However, behind the two, the figure of a young man approaching them, breathing heavily, could be seen.
