Chapter 235

Chapter 235. A Dream on a Spring Night

The scent of alcohol that shouldn’t exist.

A beauty in a dress who shouldn’t be here.

In such an unreal situation, Tafuman concluded—

“Oh, it’s just a dream.”

“Y-yes! This is a dream!”

Yavka Cheesuina jumped in wholeheartedly.

She could have vaporized and fled, but that would confirm her as a vampire. Plus, if the beauty scattered into mist right before him, he’d be shocked awake for sure.

It would be bad if the existence of vampires got revealed to the citizens of the Autonomous District! If she could just insist it was a dream and brush it off, that would be for the best…!

With a strained, forced smile, Yavka tried to catch Tafuman’s attention, but he was fixated on a bottle of alcohol.

Drool dripped from the corner of his mouth.

“Here, this is fine distilled liquor. How about a drink?”

Yavka was slightly hurt that her striking looks were completely overlooked, but it was no time to dwell on that. She poured the liquor into a cup with care. Well, thinking back, it was probably better for him not to remember her face, but that was beside the point.

By the way, even though she called it fine quality, she didn’t know much about the liquor itself. She just recognized it as such since someone gave it to her with the assurance, “Mistress, this is the best.”

Vampires don’t need to eat or drink anything but blood, and Yavka herself didn’t indulge in food. Occasionally, there were those who would eat to distract from their thirst for blood, but that was just a hobby.

“Oh ho, this is quite the treat! To get liquor from such a beautiful lady…”

Finally realizing Yavka’s face after getting the long-desired alcohol, Tafuman smiled, but his focus seemed mostly consumed by the clear liquid in the cup.

He lovingly gazed at the rippling distilled liquor under the moonlight, then gulped it down.

“…Phew! Ugh, that’s good…! What a taste…!”

Tafuman trembled with emotion.

During this, Yavka whispered a spell under her breath.

“…No, wait. Is this smell…could it be Arien-Bi—”

Suddenly coming back to his senses, Tafuman glanced down at his empty cup.

But just then, Yavka blew a sleep-inducing mist at him, and his eyes turned drowsy as he collapsed onto the bed.

…And soon, he began to breath peacefully.

“That was a close call…”

Yavka wiped the sweat from her forehead. Vampires are typically unaffected by heat or cold, and don’t usually sweat, but a cold sweat can sometimes occur. This was one of those times.

Just to be safe, she blew the sleep-inducing mist once more and observed Tafuman’s condition.

“…Zzz”

He was sound asleep.

“I managed to trick him, didn’t I…?”

That this was merely a dream.

“This is a dream, just a dream… a delightful dream of drinking with an unparalleled beauty…”

She didn’t know if it held any significance, but she whispered it softly, hoping he would confuse it with reality…! Praying as she did.

“Haah…”

With a sigh, Yavka picked up the cup Tafuman had dropped. She meticulously polished the area where his lips had touched with her handkerchief.

Then, using the same alcohol-soaked handkerchief, she diligently wiped his neck.

Why was she going through such trouble just to drink a little blood from a mere human… She couldn’t help but feel distant.

Regaining her focus, she pricked Tafuman’s neck with her nail, manipulating the blood flow to smoothly extract his blood.

After filling the cup about two-thirds, she stopped. Finesse like thread allowed her to seal the wound neatly. Applying pressure turned it into a scab in no time, closing the injury.

“Phew…”

Now, it was all up to his healing ability. Unless he was a seriously weakened human, he should be nearly healed by morning.

“…”

The cup in her hand. She swirled the red liquid before Yavka downed it in one go, matching Tafuman’s drinking style.

“Ugh, it smells like alcohol…”

She grimaced. It was too soon for the blood to mix with the liquor, likely from the cup still being stained with alcohol.

Why do mortals cherish such a thing… Yavka wondered deeply. It was a perspective unique to vampires who couldn’t be poisoned or drunk, of course.

“Such needless fatigue…”

Yavka seemed a bit haggard. Though vampires are free from physical fatigue, they can’t escape mental exhaustion…

Honestly, it was all because of this human! She looked down at the bed with annoyance.

“Mmm… I can’t drink anymore…”

Tafuman murmured, startling her once more.

“…That’s just sleep talking.”

He drooled with a foolish expression while deeply asleep.

Apparently, he was having a pleasant dream.

With a sigh of relief, Yavka stowed away her handkerchief and checked once more, her eyes wide to ensure she left no traces behind.

…Nothing remained. Not a drop of blood or even a footprint.

“…Sweet dreams.”

From the bottom of her heart, she prayed for Tafuman to continue having good dreams.

With a flourish, Yavka vaporized and left Tafuman’s home.

She decided never to come back here again…

And she would alert her companions… With that determination set.
