Chapter 227

Chapter 227 Two People

Monica’s task this time was to come over and take care of them, which meant she wouldn’t leave until a result was reached—essentially a paid vacation. At least it was much easier than her original job.

Ling Mo and Xia Xinyan could even feel the joyful aura radiating from her inside and out.

Moreover, her actions were incredibly swift. She arrived during the day, and by night she had already purchased the house across from Summer Jincang and had moved in.

Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo had no idea how she pulled it off, but they could guess it involved some underhanded means. That wasn’t something they could interfere with; even if she made a mistake, it wasn’t up to them to punish her.

That night passed quite peacefully.

So peaceful that Ling Mo found it somewhat strange.

It seemed that after Monica explained the situation to them, Xia Xinyan fell into a rather bizarre mood.

Thus, when she returned to the room after the shower and saw Xia Xinyan sitting on the bed in a daze, Ling Mo couldn’t help but ask, “Xinyan, what’s wrong?”

Xia Xinyan paused briefly, then turned to glance at him and shook her head, “It’s nothing.”

After a moment of silence, she softly asked, “Mo Mo, what do you think about what Monica said earlier?”

She didn’t fall into despair upon suddenly realizing she was merely a frog at the bottom of a well; she just felt a little lost… the things she did in the past and those upcoming, did they really hold any significance?

Was this all just an experiment by higher beings?

Regardless of whether the experiment succeeded or failed, whether this world lived or died, it wouldn’t affect those higher beings one bit.

I have to say, ignorance can be bliss; at least before this, she could still be interested in pondering the affairs related to Canglong, considering strategies, and how to secure a favorable position for herself and Ling Mo in future events.

However, now she felt like everything lost its meaning—this world was falling apart, but it was ridiculous that those dependent on it for survival were still squabbling among themselves.

Except Ling Mo seemed to think differently.

“My thoughts?” Ling Mo sat at the edge of the bed, grinning, “I think this is an incredible opportunity!”

“Hmm?”

“We are the only two people in the whole world who know Monica.” Ling Mo looked at Xia Xinyan and smiled slightly, “Isn’t that our biggest advantage right now?”

“You want her to take us to that investigation bureau?” Xia Xinyan frowned.

“No, matters like the investigation bureau are too far from us; there’s no need to think too far ahead right now. We need to take things one step at a time; even if we can see far off, we ought to occasionally watch our step to avoid falling.” Ling Mo chuckled, “What we, or rather this world, needs to face now is the task of the ‘Realm of Divine Presence,’ the aftermath of the catastrophic disaster that Monica mentioned. So, the first thing we need to do is to resolve this matter.”

He paused before continuing, “Monica said she would take care of us, right? Since she’s an existence beyond this dimension, she must possess power greater than anyone else in this world. As long as she’s willing to help us, we can fully utilize this to establish our own force, or let’s be even bolder—make our force the greatest power that can influence the world, even the only force in the whole world. Once we reach that point, we can find a way to gather all of humanity and consolidate the world’s strength, and we’ll definitely be able to solve the problems this world is facing.”

Xia Xinyan stared at him blankly for a moment before suddenly laughing, “You really dare to dream.”

“Why shouldn’t I dare to dream?” Ling Mo countered, “In fact, this time, Canglong is an opportunity. If possible, I’d like to have them change their leader.”

Xia Xinyan fell silent.

It was only now that she suddenly realized that Ling Mo seemed to be walking further and further away from her—uh, that might not sound right; what I mean is… Ling Mo before her and her previous self had already taken two completely different paths.

Or rather, they had now become two entirely independent existences, with only a shared memory left as their connection, lacking much in common.

This could also relate to the additional life she had lived.

Having experienced so much, she could see things more clearly—but sometimes, seeing too clearly isn’t a good thing. Some people, having seen through everything, simply detached themselves from reality, yet being here in the mundane world can be torturous.

Xia Xinyan was in a similar state; she had come to understand many things too well—she had even begun to view the whole incident from a perspective as if she were on the highest pedestal, much like an ant would perceive an ant fight from a human’s standpoint, naturally thinking everything was utterly meaningless.

But ants are still ants, and they are destined to live in this small world; many things may seem meaningless from a high perspective, but in different living environments, meaning naturally varies.

She had walked into a dead end.

And Ling Mo, in contrast, hadn’t gone through as much, nor had he experienced the despair of giving everything yet still failing, so upon learning about all this, he, as a normal, spirited young man, was filled with grand ambitions.

To put it boldly, the future might belong to them!

So how could he not be excited?

Consequently, he completely failed to understand why Xinyan suddenly felt disheartened.

After pondering for a long time, he could only attribute it to the confusion of a young girl suddenly facing a major event.

In fact, even if Xinyan usually appeared mature, she was, after all, just a little girl who was a year younger than him.

With this thought, Ling Mo suddenly moved closer to Xia Xinyan and embraced her.

“It’s okay… no matter what happens, I will be with you. I won’t hold you back… I promise.”

Xia Xinyan paused.

She didn’t resist but naturally nestled into his embrace and closed her eyes.

She felt a bit exhausted.

Just wanted to rest.

Seeing this, Ling Mo gently laid her down on the bed and then got in beside her, allowing her to curl up in his arms and fall asleep.

He maintained that side-lying position, staring at Xinyan for nearly an hour.

Once he confirmed that Xinyan had fallen deeply asleep, he lightly pulled away his arm, which had gone numb from the pressure, and slowly got off the bed.

This was a rare moment where Xia Xinyan showed her vulnerable side, and if possible, Ling Mo really wanted to stay beside her and enjoy an entire evening of this gentle side of his girlfriend. But it wasn’t the time for comfort; he had to fulfill the promise he made to Xia Xinyan just moments ago.

He planned to find Monica and ask her to help bring their abilities into reality.
