Chapter 218
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 211: No Sense of Ethics
After leaving the inn with Zephal and the others, we arrived at the Adventurers’ Guild where Ronny was waiting.
“Ronny!”
“Oh, Luna! Hello!”
“Yeah.”
Upon entering the Adventurers’ Guild, I spotted Ronny instructing a new guild staff member while restraining those who were absent yesterday.
“Did you manage what I asked?”
“Everything’s fine. I used the new staff members who weren’t involved in any crimes to detain the others, then assigned them to keep watch. I’ve also checked for any useful evidence and the business situation during my absence.”
“I see. Did any other knights come by?”
“There were no issues there either. Thanks to the recognition-inhibiting magic you cast last night, the knights didn’t come here.”
“Got it.”
Last night, as we were headed back to the inn, it struck me that if we simply returned, there was a possibility the knights would come here in the morning to free the detained staff and knights.
Just imagining that was stressful, so I recklessly cast recognition-inhibiting magic over the entire building, and perhaps because of that, it seemed no one had come here until we arrived.
“Zephal.”
“Yes. I will order the knights to capture them.”
“Leave it to you.”
With that, Zephal headed off to the knights waiting in front of the guild, and since we had been working together for a while, he quickly grasped our intentions and acted accordingly.
In that sense, it was also convenient that Miria often acted as if she could see the future, which was a bit frightening at first due to her perfection.
(That one is already beyond help. It’s not that she’s amazing or competent; it’s that she’s a bit crazy.)
As I thought that and briefly glanced at Miria, she happened to be looking at me, tilting her head in confusion.
“Is something wrong?”
“No, it’s nothing. By the way, Ronny, did any staff mention anything to you?”
“At first, those who were restrained yelled a bit, but once they saw the evidence of their involvement in crimes and the captured guild master from yesterday, it seemed they understood the situation, and since then, nobody has complained.”
“Okay. Then keep them restrained as they are. New staff should be arriving from the imperial capital tomorrow, so until then, Ronny, you’ll continue to take charge.”
“Understood.”
“Oh, and about the new guild master here, it’s going to be you, Ronny, so do your best.”
“Eh, me?”
Ronny looked a bit surprised, as if she hadn’t expected this at all.
“Of course. You were the deputy guild master until you got caught, and you were trying to report the guild master’s wrongdoings. Plus, it would be quite difficult to suddenly hand this over to someone new, so I think this is the most reasonable choice.”
“But…”
“If you don’t want to, at least make sure to hand over your duties to the new guild master yourself before stepping down. That’s what responsibility is, isn’t it?”
“…Understood.”
After thinking for a moment, Ronny nodded as if to fulfill her responsibility and said she would gather the necessary documents before the new staff arrived, disappearing into the back.
“Well then, shall we move on to the next place?”
With that, we left the Adventurers’ Guild and headed to our next destination, taking Zephal, who returned after giving directions to the knights with us.
“This is it.”
The next place we arrived at was the clan base of the Poison Snake’s Claw, which Miria and I had attacked together yesterday.
“Naglaya.”
“Mm? Ah, it’s you. Took your time getting here.”
“I’m the type to sleep in during the morning. More importantly, looks like you’re ready.”
“Of course. Though it’s a bit unsettling that we’re preparing carriages to transport ourselves.”
“Can’t be helped, right? You guys lost.”
“Yeah, I get that.”
Currently, three large carriages were prepared in front of the tavern leading to the Poison Snake’s Claw base, but I wondered if everyone could fit in just those three.
“Will three carriages be enough for everyone?”
“No problem. Even if they don’t fit, we’ll cram everyone in. Plus, these carriages are special—they have gravity-reducing magic and continuous recovery magic to keep the horses from tiring. Well, the continuous recovery is minor, just a little comforting.”
“Wow. Where did you get these carriages? You can’t find these around here. They must be costly, too.”
Carriages with magic applied are rarer than normal ones, and even nobles have trouble buying them, so it was strange that mere adventurers possessed three.
“These were given to us from that nation. Apparently, because we’re bringing along many slaves, they handed them over as a reward. Basically, it means they expect us to work harder.”
“I see. So there’s someone over there confident enough in magic to put it on the carriages.”
While applying magic to objects isn’t too hard, it’s essential that the magic applied is both gravity-reduction and continuous recovery.
Gravity magic is relatively difficult even among dark magic, and applying it to something other than oneself raises the difficulty considerably.
Likewise, continuous recovery magic is commonly used by those skilled in application magic, making it a basic spell.
However, applying that magic to objects and guaranteeing its effect on something else requires quite advanced skills.
“This seems like we might have someone useful.”
While it might feel a bit lacking if I were to face someone directly, if they could use gravity magic, they should be able to collect enough magic power single-handedly to resurrect the Demon King.
“Well, so long as I don’t accidentally kill them, it should be fine.”
“I don’t know what you’re thinking, but I hope things turn out as you wish.”
“Thanks. By the way, how did your companions fare?”
“Oh, everyone except the ones you cut down at the beginning are alive. Most just have burns or are mentally messed up, so only a few are still in decent shape.”
“I see. As long as they’re alive, their condition doesn’t matter, just make sure they don’t commit suicide.”
“I’ve done my share of inhumane things, but you really seem to lack any ethics.”
“Hehe. Asking me for regular ethical standards is pointless. If I were bound by that, I would have broken long ago.”
If any sense of ethics still remained with me now, I would have been crushed by guilt and remorse long ago, unable to live freely doing whatever I wanted.
Most likely, I would have become a shell of a person around the sixth loop when my parents were murdered, living a lifeless existence.
“Well, we’re leaving now, but make sure to pack everyone. After this, we’ll head to the Adventurers’ Guild and the knights’ station, and make sure to include the detained guild staff and knights.”
“Wait, am I supposed to do all this?”
“Of course. You guys also contributed to creating this situation, so put in some effort, will you?”
“Ugh. Fine.”
“Alright then, leave the rest to you~”
With those words, we departed from that place, having run out of tasks, and decided to head back to the inn.
“Young master. Was that the clan leader you mentioned earlier?”
“Yeah.”
“He seemed quite powerful. To think you managed to defeat him is impressive.”
“Thanks. But as I heard, all those involved in this crime are under my command now, so just so you know.”
“Roger that. I’ll inform him as well. By the way, are you still not returning to the mansion?”
“Ah, unfortunately, there’s still more to do. I’ll head back after that.”
“Got it. Then I’ll let the ladies know it’ll take a bit longer.”
“Thanks.”
Tomorrow, we would leave this town and head toward Saramāju, but Zephal and the others would return to the capital, Vilant, after their handover, and they would likely tell my mother about me then.
“By the way, the sight of you will surely delight the ladies.”
“Please, spare me. If that happens, I’ll end up having to buy even more women’s clothing.”
“Ahaha. As an onlooker, it’s amusing to see you two get along.”
“If you do that, I’ll spill your embarrassing secrets to your family, you know? Like how you were bullied by girls when you were a kid.”
“What?! No way!!”
“I heard it from your father. If you don’t want me to tell your mother, better keep quiet.”
“Fine! I get it. I won’t say a word, so you don’t either.”
“If you’re not going to tell, then I won’t feel the need to either.”
“That’s a relief.”
After we returned to the inn, we had dinner and then each rested in our rooms, while Zephal and the other knights seemed busy with the handover.
The next day, the new guild staff arrived in Carirro town from the morning, so we went to the town entrance to welcome them, guiding them to the guild just like we did for Zephal’s group.
After that, under Ronny’s instructions, we observed as they conducted the handover with the new guild staff and went through the upcoming tasks, resting in a corner.
“Thank you all so much. I really appreciate your help with everything.”
Once the explanations seemed to conclude, Ronny approached us looking a bit tired, bowing her head in gratitude.
“Don’t mention it. We were just passing through.”
“Even so. If you all hadn’t come to help me, I would have been dead by now.”
“Well, it was Lily who helped, so if you’re going to be thankful, it should be toward her.”
“Got it.”
“By the way, what about your missing ear?”
“Unfortunately, I don’t have enough money to fix it, so it looks like it will stay like this.”
“Hmm.”
As for Ronny’s injuries, Miria had used recovery potions, so everything except the missing parts had healed, but her ear and fingertips remained gone.
“Can’t be helped, you did help this time after all.”
Saying that, I snapped my fingers, causing Ronny’s body to glow faintly, and her lost ear and fingers returned.
“Eh?”
“This is just as a thank you.”
“Th-thank you so much!”
Ronny joyfully bowed her head multiple times, and we waved lightly at her as we left the Adventurers’ Guild.
“Luna.”
While we were walking through town to head toward the carriage prepared by Naglaya, Sharueina approached me with a serious tone.
“Have you decided what you’re going to do?”
“Yeah. I’m going with you.”
“Really?”
Sharueina, who had been struggling with the situation surrounding Rogurando, seemed to have decided to come to Saramāju, without any traces of the hesitation she had just days before.
“Hmm.”
“?!”
Just to confirm, I swung a sword I had pulled out from storage magic towards Sharueina’s neck, but she managed to react and block it with her own blade.
“Well, that’s a passing grade. At least your resolve came across. I hope you don’t hesitate when facing that person. Just so you know, if you hesitate and die, don’t expect my help.”
“I understand. In fact, if I were to be saved, I’d be too embarrassed to continue living. So if I do die, you can just leave my body as it is.”
“Hmm. By the way, can I ask what changed your mindset?”
“Yeah. I’ve always thought I was alone. My brothers dislike me, and my uncle betrayed me. However, the only one who helped me when I was struggling was my uncle, and I might have unwittingly become attached to him. When I learned he was alive, I was certainly confused, but at the same time, I was happy. Knowing that someone who understood and supported me was still alive scared me that I might lose that hope again.”
I, too, knew the environment from which she had grown up.
Therefore, it was understandable for her to develop an extraordinary attachment to Rogurando, who had aligned with her in her early years, seeking salvation from him.
If it meant losing hope again, it was only natural for anyone to hesitate.
“But I learned that I’m not alone anymore. Trusting everyone is still difficult, but at least Lily and the others said they would be by my side. So I thought that instead of just running away, I’d take a step forward.”
Upon hearing Iris’s name mentioned, I sensed much of what was going on, and Iris was smiling contentedly, while Miria’s expression remained unchanged but seemed a bit happier.
“Well, for me, even if you were hesitant, I intended to take you along if Narche was going. If you die, that’s on you.”
“Haha. You’re harsh. I get it. This is my decision. I won’t complain if I die, nor will I ask to be brought back.”
“Understood. Now, let’s get going.”
With that, we merged with Naglaya’s group and climbed into the carriage, leaving Carirro town behind while being seen off by Zephal and Ronny.
The number of people had swelled to around 50, but thanks to the carriages imbued with magic, it didn’t feel too difficult.
By the way, when I asked Naglaya for the magic sword Yoruumu, she casually gave it to me, saying it didn’t suit her.
Thus, we were on our way to our true destination, Saramāju, swaying in the carriage.
