Chapter 217

The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Episode 210: The Knight Commander

The next morning. Though, by this time, the sun had already risen to the center of the sky, and it was around lunchtime.

As usual, I was awakened by Miria and quickly got ready to eat my breakfast-lunch in the inn’s dining area.

I noticed Iris and Sharueina were there too, looking a bit closer than before. It seemed like Sharueina’s previous instability had calmed down a bit since yesterday.

“Luna-san.”

“Ah, it seems they’ve arrived.”

Just as I finished eating, Miria, who had been checking the town’s situation with Detection Magic, spoke up as if she had sensed guests outside the barrier.

“It looks like the knights have come. Shall we go?”

“Yeah.”

“Got it.”

After that, we stood up and walked toward the entrance on the eastern side of the town, heading to where the knights were gathered.

As we passed through the town, the atmosphere felt quite bustling, likely because my barrier from last night was preventing anyone from going outside. But it seemed like it wasn’t something worth worrying about, so I ignored it.

When we approached the entrance on the east side, about twenty knights, led by a familiar figure, were standing in front of the barrier, seemingly contemplating what to do with it.

“Zephal has come, huh?”

“Looks that way. It was a message from Luna-san, so I guess My Lord decided it was best to send him here.”

The one I saw standing in front of my barrier with his arms crossed in thought was Zephal, the commander of the knights belonging to the House of Valentine.

It seems my father, upon hearing my request for knights to be sent, decided something had happened and sent Zephal, the one with the highest rank among the knights.

“Zephal.”

“…Huh? My Lady?”

“Huh?”

Since barrier magic doesn’t block sound, I called out to him as we stopped in front of the barrier, but he looked incredibly surprised and referred to my mother.

“Why is My Lady here?”

“What are you talking about?”

“That way of speaking… Could it be the young master?”

“Yep.”

From his reaction, it seemed that my current appearance resembled my mother’s, which likely shocked him since he was unaware of the situation.

“Wow, I didn’t notice at all. You’re almost like My Lady herself. What’s going on?”

“There are various circumstances. But more importantly, did Father instruct you to come personally, Commander?”

“Yes. Since you called for knights, it seemed quite serious, which is why I came.”

“I see.”

“Well, let’s discuss the details inside. Can we enter?”

“Oh, right!”

I said that and opened a passage in the barrier just wide enough for people to pass through, allowing Zephal and the others to enter.

“Well then, let’s head to the inn where we’re staying.”

“Understood.”

We were now retracing the path with twenty knights in tow, and the townspeople, seeing such an unusual sight, looked on with shocked expressions.

“I see. I understand the details now.”

Upon returning to the inn, I had the other knights wait on the first floor and brought only Zephal into my room to explain the town and last night’s events.

“So basically, you young masters were on a journey under a disguise for a certain purpose, and you were invited by a clan based in this town. You refused, it led to a conflict, and when you came here to take down that clan, you discovered that the clan, the guild, and even the knights were cooperating to sell slaves, right?”

“That’s correct.”

“And you captured those guys already, and you set up that barrier to prevent the remaining knights and guild staff from escaping?”

“Exactly.”

“Thank you for grasping things so quickly.”

“Phew… Haah…”

After listening to my story, Zephal took a deep breath and let out a deliberately long sigh, looking at me with an expression of disbelief in his eyes.

“Young master. Regardless of how the conflict started, couldn’t we have waited until we arrived before acting?”

“Because if I left it to you knights, those guys would’ve transferred ownership to the knight order, right? And that wouldn’t do at all.”

“Huh? So you wanted to own those criminals involved in the town’s wrongdoing?”

“Exactly!”

“No, no, that’s not good enough. You’re the next heir of the House of Valentine. If you just wanted ownership, you could have told me, and I would have given it to you. Besides, they told me to let you do as you please.”

I scrambled to come up with a reason for catching the clan and guild members by ourselves, but it seemed I couldn’t fool Zephal, who had known me since I was a child. He urged me to tell the real reason while also mentioning my father.

“Can’t fool you, huh?”

“Of course. I’ve known you since you were a baby. Also, don’t give me that mischievous, caught-like-a-child look that resembles My Lady. It’s driving me crazy.”

“I can’t quite get that, but if I must explain the real reason, it’s simple: because it sounded like more fun.”

“Oh, feeling that blood connection with him here, huh? I wish you’d at least inherited a bit more of My Lady’s personality… Nah, that would probably be a hassle too.”

Zephal was mumbling something to himself while holding his head, but he quickly shifted gears to a serious expression.

“Anyway, I understand the situation in this town. As for the knights, that’s my responsibility. I should have been more attentive to the other towns as well.”

“Well, while you, the overall commander, do bear some responsibility, if you were to manage every little town, you’d probably work yourself to death. Ultimately, it’s the knights in this town who chose to get involved in crime. You don’t have to take all the blame.”

“While I appreciate hearing that, I can’t just take it easy on those words. When I get back, I plan to have my trusted subordinates investigate the knights in the other towns.”

“Leave that to you, Zephal.”

While Zephal’s speech was a bit casual, he held pride in his profession as a knight, and he was someone who wouldn’t spare any effort to protect the House of Valentine where my father, who was also a close friend of his, and his family lived.

“So the note indicating to bring more knights was to eliminate those knights who got involved in misdeeds and leave behind the knights you brought, huh?”

“Correct. I had no idea who would come, but if it’s knights that Zephal brought, I can rest easy.”

“Rest assured. I brought knights who are loyal and capable.”

“That’s great to hear. Now then…”

After that, we decided how to deal with the poisonous serpents and those guild staff involved in crime, leaving the remaining matters to the knights that Zephal brought, concluding our discussion.

“Wow, you really do look a lot like My Lady, young master.”

“Is it that much?”

“Yeah. Though you’re taller than My Lady, your facial features were already similar enough that I would have believed it if someone said you were her. By the way, who are you with? They don’t seem like Lady Fiera’s girls, and while I recognize Miria from her resemblance, the other two are a mystery to me.”

“The one with light brown hair is Iris, and the one with gray hair is Princess Sharueina.”

“Huh, Princess Sharueina?”

“Long time no see, Zephal. It’s been since I was five, right?”

As soon as Sharueina spoke to Zephal, he panicked and knelt down, apologizing for his rudeness.

“I’m so sorry! I didn’t expect Her Highness to be here, so my behavior was disrespectful. I will accept any punishment!”

“Please stop. We’ve known each other since old times, right? Plus, I’m currently hiding my identity as an adventurer named Narsh. There’s no reason to punish you.”

“B-but…”

“Zephal. Her Highness says it’s fine; anything more would be considered rude.”

“…Understood.”

Saying that, Zephal sat back down, and seeing him, Sharueina smiled contently, then began to speak to him.

The two of them had known each other since Sharueina visited the duke’s house, and sometimes Zephal had taught her swordsmanship.

“Now then. We probably have a lot to catch up on, but first, let’s go do some cleanup.”

“Understood.”

After a moment of watching Zephal, who was confused about how to interact with Sharueina after so long, we decided to check on the remaining knights and the guild staff we had left to Ronny and moved through the town in a large group once again.

Next time, the episode from Lewis’s side will wrap up for now, and after that, I plan to insert a few episodes from Fiera’s side.

I hope you’re looking forward to seeing Fiera and the others again after such a long time!

Thank you!
