Chapter 214
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 207: I Will Save Your Life
“Yo!”
I leaped down from the building where I had been transported and landed beside Iris, who still seemed unable to grasp the situation. I looked around to reassess our surroundings.
“Hmm. Is that guy over there who’s passed out the Guild Master? And it looks like the other staff and knights have been restrained. Seems like we just finished everything on our end too.”
In a corner of the guild, there was a man who appeared to be Carirro’s Guild Master, restrained along with some of the other staff, and nearby lay six unconscious knights, all tied up.
“Luna! What in the world is going on?”
Finally snapping out of her confusion, Iris approached and asked about the current situation.
“To put it simply, I was fighting the poisonous snake clan leader who was knocked out over there, and when I blew him away, I ended up here chasing after him. Since Lily is here, we must surely be in the guild, right?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“Just as I thought. What are the odds, though? To just randomly fly and end up in the guild where Lily is. It’s laughable, ahaha!”
If I had aimed for it from the start, it wouldn’t have been so surprising, but considering the miraculous nature of this twist of fate, I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Hehe. That’s true.”
“So, how’s the situation on your end? From the looks of it, seems like you wrapped things up too.”
“Yes, we just finished here a moment ago, with Ronnie and I restraining the Guild Master and the staff. We also took care of a few knights.”
“Okay, so we’re done on this side too. I think Mize will be along soon.”
“I understand. Um, there’s one thing I wanted to ask…”
“Hm? What is it?”
Iris, who had been speaking normally just a moment ago, suddenly changed her tone, making me curious enough to turn my gaze towards her.
“Is your right arm okay? It looks really painful, and it seems like it might just fall off.”
“My right arm? Oh, don’t worry about it. I’ll be able to heal it later.”
“R-right…”
It seemed she was worried about my right arm, which was a mess from taking Naguraya’s attack on purpose. I nonchalantly swayed the barely attached limb and told her not to concern herself.
“More importantly, it’s a hassle if the other guild staff and knights decide to run away during this commotion.”
“Yes. Since Luna destroyed the guild, the staff at home and other knights are likely aware of the chaos.”
“Yeah. It can’t be helped. It’s a hassle, but let’s set a barrier around the entire town so they can’t escape.”
Setting a barrier around Carirro would consume a fair amount of magic power, which was tiring, but it would be a pain if they managed to flee. So, I reluctantly cast the light magic for the barrier.
“There, that should do it. Now, all that’s left is to wake Naguraya.”
After casting the barrier magic, I approached Naguraya to discuss our next steps. I lightly cast recovery magic on her and splashed some water made with water magic on her.
Cough! Cough cough…
“Awakening, are we?”
“You are… Ah, right. I lost, didn’t I…?”
After looking around in a daze for a bit, she seemed to understand she was lying on the floor and finally recalled the battle we had fought.
“That’s correct. You lost to me. So now, I believe you know what happens next… right?”
“Hmph. Losers don’t get to choose. You’ve already decided what’ll happen to us in your mind, right? So, just go ahead and do it.”
“Hehe. You understand quickly, which is helpful. So without further ado, Naguraya and her subordinates are coming with us to Saramāju. I’m letting you live until then.”
“…Saramāju?”
Suddenly being told they would be going to Saramāju, Naguraya seemed unable to grasp the meaning behind those words, looking at me suspiciously.
“You were also collaborating with this town’s Guild Master to kidnap adventurers and the poor, selling them as slaves in Saramāju, right? I already have proof, so don’t think of making excuses.”
“…I see. If you have proof, then it seems like there’s no way out. But what reason do we have for having to go to Saramāju with you? In fact, if we teamed up with those criminals over there and attacked you, it would become way worse than this, don’t you think? Might as well kill us here.”
I couldn’t tell if Naguraya was trying to warn me or threaten me, but unfortunately, those words held no real weight for me.
“Hehe. Even if the whole country unites against me, most of them will kneel before me. Sorry, but I’m several times stronger than you think.”
Saying this, I ripped off the barely connected right arm and cast full recovery magic to regrow it.
“You can use magic too?”
“Unfortunately, it’s not just some magic. Magic is my main profession.”
“You mean I lost to a young girl whose main profession is magic with just swordsmanship?”
“Hehe. Exactly. How does it feel? Frustrating?”
“Hah! So that’s how it is! I’ve been had. It seems there’s no way I can win against you. Fine, I’ll listen to whatever you say. To Saramāju, right? I’ll take you there.”
Naguraya said this with an oddly liberated laugh, promising to take us to Saramāju.
“Thanks for understanding quickly. Just a heads up, we’ll be bringing not only ourselves but also your subordinates and the guild staff that were working with you, so I think it’ll be quite a few people—any problems with that?”
“No problem. I’ve been told to bring as many as possible from there. I might get yelled at for bringing too few, but never for bringing too many.”
“Okay. So we’ll be leaving in two days, but how have you usually done the handover?”
“When it was a small number, we’d send them off in carts, but when there were a lot, we’d just put them into the artifact’s space and let the guys from there come collect them.”
“Well, this time, let’s do the opposite. We’ll be heading to Saramāju happily together in a cart. Please arrange that for us.”
“I don’t mind that, but why?”
“Well, we have our circumstances too. Just don’t pry any further.”
Naguraya looked at me with a confused expression as if to say she didn’t understand, but I had no obligation to explain further, so I told her to refrain from asking.
The truth is, the reason we would be heading to Saramāju in a cart was to clearly establish the fact that we had been kidnapped.
If we used the artifact to enter Saramāju, there would be fewer chances of being seen, and if the artifact were broken, doubts about whether we had truly been kidnapped could arise.
So this time, I needed the fact that we were taken away in a cart after the kidnapping.
“Got it. By the way, what’s going to happen to us afterwards?”
“Hmm, you’ll probably die. But if you’re lucky, you might survive, but that will depend on how hard Naguraya and the others work.”
“I see. Well, I won’t be expecting much.”
“Huh. That’s surprising. I thought for sure you’d say something like ‘help me out since I helped you’ or something.”
Most criminals are selfish, arrogant, and only live for their own desires.
So when it comes time for their own deaths, they typically plead for help and apologize for their wrongs, but she accepted the idea of dying without showing any panic.
“I expected a day like this would come eventually. I know best what I’ve done up until now. I did think I wouldn’t have a decent death.”
“Hehe. I see. But that’s too bad. I don’t dislike your way of thinking, but it wouldn’t be entertaining to save you here. So do your best to survive. That in itself seems like it would be interesting.”
I have no intention of saying I can’t forgive criminals or that I want to eradicate them all.
Criminals have their own thoughts and reasons for acting, and there are essential evils in this world as well.
So for me, whether they live or die is ultimately irrelevant, and if they can manage to escape through some fortunate coincidence from what I’m about to do, I won’t pursue them any further.
“You’re letting criminals go merely for fun?”
“Ahaha. For me, the world doesn’t matter at all. I have no interest in who commits crimes or who gets killed. In fact, it’s way more fun and interesting to see how they survive from what I do, and what the results lead to in the future.”
If someone heard this statement, they’d probably criticize me with their own sense of justice, but I couldn’t care less about that.
As long as I’m having fun, that’s all that matters, and I’m not setting grand goals like ‘I want to save the world’ or ‘I want to destroy criminals.’
I simply want a future where I can die endlessly; if that means the world has to end, then I’ll gladly bring about its ruin.
“Seriously, your head is screwed up.”
“Didn’t I tell you? I get told that a lot. Anyway, I need to speak with one more person, so I’ll be heading out now. Oh, and don’t even think about trying to run away. Well, I believe my barrier magic is up in this town, so it’s probably impossible.”
“Hah. Really, I can’t match you. I get it, I won’t do anything pointless.”
“Right.”
After saying this, I smiled at Naguraya before heading towards the man who was the Guild Master of this town, giving him a kick to the head while he was still unconscious.
“Cough! W-What?!”
“Awakening, are we? Guild Master?”
“W-Who are you?! Huh?! C-could it be a hero here to save me? If that’s the case, quickly take care of that little girl who put me in this position…!”
“Shut up, stay quiet for a bit.”
I got a bit irritated by the guy spouting nonsense and shoved the toe of my shoe into his mouth, pressing down a little.
“If you keep babbling meaningless words, I’ll take your jaw off. Just answer what I ask. Got it? Nod if you understand.”
“Mmph! Mmm…”
Once I confirmed he nodded, I pulled my shoe out of his mouth and quickly asked the question I wanted to.
“First off, let me correct one thing; I didn’t come here to save you. I’m actually a comrade of the woman who put you in this position, so don’t expect to be saved.”
“Y-You can’t be serious…”
“Now that you seem to understand the situation, let’s get right to the questions. But it’s not really anything difficult. Just tell me about the guy who cooperated with you in this guild, along with others who knew about what you were doing. Simple, right?”
“…What happens if I tell you that?”
“Hm? Could it be you want to live?”
When I asked this, the guy’s eyes lit up with hope, so I smiled back at him.
“Alright. If you reveal everything without holding back, I’ll save your life. I’ll even help you live long.”
“R-really?”
“Of course. I can’t stand lies.”
“Then, first, untie these ropes.”
“Sure.”
With a wind spell, I cut the ropes binding him. He let out a huge sigh of relief and began to tell me about his comrades.
(Whoa. Almost all the guild staff knew about it. And even the knight captain in charge of this town was in on it. Super corrupt.)
According to his story, most of the guild staff had known he was selling rookie adventurers and the poor as slaves, with only the newbies who just recently joined being unaware.
Moreover, the knight captains in charge of this town were also complicit, ignoring the crimes in exchange for money.
“That’s everything.”
“Thanks. Ronnie, you heard all that, right?”
“Yes. Everyone knows the details, so I’ll handle the rest from here.”
“I’m counting on you. Now, this guy needs to be tied up again and thrown in with those knights and other staff for detention somewhere.”
“Understood.”
“W-What?! Hey! This is not what we agreed on!!”
Hearing he was to be restrained again, the man panicked and tried to come at me, but suddenly a water sword plunged into the ground, stopping him in his tracks.
“Could you not touch Luna with those filthy hands? I’ll kill you.”
“Yikes!?”
Terrified by Iris’s bloodlust, the man fell back as if he had lost all strength and turned pale.
“Calm down, Lily. And Guild Master. I’m not lying here, you know?”
“Y-You said you were going to restrain me again!”
“That’s right. But think back to what I said. I did say I’d save your life and help you live long, but I didn’t say how. So you’ll just have to survive in Saramāju. They say you get used to living there, so it might turn out to be a nice place for you? Just wait with those hopeful eyes like before.”
“T-That can’t be…”
The man seemed to despair at the unexpected words, slumping down as if the earlier vigor was a lie.
“Well then, we’re heading back now, so I’ll leave the rest to you, Ronnie. Lily, let’s go.”
“Yes.”
“Thank you very much.”
We were sent off by a deeply bowing Ronnie as we met back up with Miria, who had come our way.
Miria mentioned that thanks to her poison, no one would wake up until tomorrow morning, so she left them restrained and had left them behind.
After that, I returned to the inn, parted ways with Iris, entered my rented room, cleaned myself up with magic, and immediately fell asleep.
By the way, after hearing about my shoes from Iris, Miria insisted that I not wear those dirty shoes starting tomorrow and, for some reason, pulled out a pair of new shoes that fit me perfectly from her storage ring, saying, “Please wear these from tomorrow onward.”
