Chapter 202
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 195: A Good Woman Keeps You Waiting
It had been two days since we got entangled with the members of the Poison Snake Talons clan at the Adventurers’ Guild in Rumalunya.
After finishing our last request in Rumalunya, we were heading towards our next destination, the town of Carirro.
“How long will it take to reach the town of Carirro?”
“I checked with Detection Magic before we left Rumalunya yesterday, and it should take us about two hours to run there. So we should arrive soon.”
“As expected of you, Luna. Got it! I’ll do my best to run and not get left behind!”
Iris, still a bit conscious of the fact that she was the only one tired the first time she came to this town, said enthusiastically, filling her body with magic power to increase her running speed.
(Man, she’s really pumped. Well, I’m actually looking forward to having some fun after a long time too.)
As I watched Iris getting all fired up, I noticed my own excitement was slightly elevated.
Yet there was something that still bothered me: whether Iris could kill someone without hesitation.
Of course, I knew she had become a C Rank adventurer on her own, but I’d never seen her actually kill anyone with my own eyes, so I was personally curious if she could do it without flinching.
Miria had been active in the Valentine House’s intelligence division since I set off on my journey, so she might have killed someone during her missions, and I didn’t need to worry about her.
Moreover, I had firsthand knowledge that she could kill without hesitation when the time came.
As for Sharueina, she was a princess and must have viewed execution of criminals as part of her education, so whether she had actually killed someone or not, she had probably seen death with her own eyes, so there was no need to worry about her either.
But when it came to Iris, the last time she killed me, she was under some kind of possession, and it wasn’t her own will that ended my life.
Because of that, when I thought back on her usual demeanor, it was hard to imagine her killing someone, which made me a bit curious if she could do it this time.
(Well, if she doesn’t kill, then that’s that.)
I had long discarded the futile trait of expecting anything from someone, so now I only accepted the reality I witnessed.
Thus, if she hesitated to kill, it only meant that was her limit, and if she could, I would just think she had that side to her.
“Alright, we’re halfway there. Let’s pick up the pace!”
I said this and further increased my running speed as we rushed towards the town of Carirro.
“So this is Carirro town. It’s bigger than Rumalunya.”
“Indeed. We can only see from the outside now, but judging by the number of people lined up here, it seems to be a large town.”
“So the Poison Snake Talons clan is here. It looks like it might be a hassle to find them.”
We arrived near the entrance of the town and lined up behind the people who were going through the inspection while looking at the bustling town of Carirro, which was more prosperous than Rumalunya.
“No need to hunt them down. The people we met before mentioned they’d talk to the knights doing the inspections. If we show our cards, they should guide us.”
“Come to think of it, you’re right. Does that mean we’ll be directed to the clan’s base right after this?”
“That means combat might start soon. I wouldn’t mind that, but I think we should try talking first.”
“I’ll follow your lead, Luna.”
“Just leave it to me. Lily and the others can just stay quiet and follow along.”
After a while of waiting for our turn at the inspection station, it finally came.
“Hello. Do you have any identification?”
“Hey there. Is my guild card okay?”
“Yes.”
We showed our guild cards to the knight, who slightly squinted his eyes at us.
“Are you the adventurers in question?”
“If by ‘the ones in question,’ you mean the Poison Snake Talons, then yes, that’s us.”
“I see. Mentioning that clan here confirms it. I’m sorry, but could you come with me to the back?”
Hearing the knight’s words, I took the guild cards back from him and replied with the words I had decided on while smiling brightly.
“I’ll have to decline.”
“Huh… what?”
“I’ll have to decline.”
“Um, that’s… we really need you to come with us…”
“I don’t know about that. First of all, if we follow you and can’t find a place to stay after, who’ll take responsibility for that? We just got here, and we need to find an inn first. Plus, I was taught that if I had something to discuss, that person should come to me, so if you need something, tell them to come to us. Now, let’s go everyone.”
“Wait, um… please wait! Hey!!!”
Ignoring the knight’s attempt to stop us, we passed through the entrance and blended into the crowd.
After walking around the town for a bit, we rented a room at the highly-rated inn and gathered to discuss our plans in the room we reserved for Iris and the others.
“So, Luna. You said to leave it to you, and we kept quiet, but was that really okay back there?”
“It’s no problem. The one with the need is them anyway. Our goal is to investigate that matter. Whether the Poison Snake Talons are involved or not, we need to gather information at the Adventurers’ Guild. So, there’s no rush to meet that clan, and since we’ll be staying in this town for a while to gather info, making a fuss by wiping out the clan right away would create unnecessary trouble.”
“That’s definitely true. Spreading rumors is one of our goals, but if we got too famous, it would make things harder. Moreover, since we’re B and C ranks, if we take out an A rank clan, we’d attract suspicion.”
“Exactly. So we’ll take our time to deal with them. But we don’t have too much time, so I’d say we have about a week. They probably have some pride too, so they shouldn’t attack immediately. So, let’s start by dealing with the minions outside. Mīze.”
“Yes?”
“Use your poison to take care of a decent number of them.”
“Understood. How many do you want me to handle?”
“Let me think…”
I expanded the range of the Detection Magic I had spread throughout the inn to encompass the whole town, locating a central area where many presences gathered.
Upon further investigation, I found magical reactions from the men who had come from Rumalunya inside a building, suggesting it was the base of the Poison Snake Talons.
“Looks like about 60 people. But based on the magical responses, 40 of them are low-rank goons. The other 20 are powerful at B rank or higher, so we can leave them be for now.”
“Got it. So, can we poison and kill the 40 goons?”
“Yeah.”
Normally, I wouldn’t have cared about goons this weak, but considering the potential for combat in the town, it could draw unwanted attention and ruin our plans. Therefore, I decided to start thinning their numbers with Miria’s poison.
“Then it seems our turn will come afterward.”
“That’s right.”
“So, until then, we’ll continue taking requests and keeping a low profile?”
The others seemed to have no objections to my plan as we sipped the tea and snacks Miria had prepared.
“Still, that clan piques my interest a bit.”
“Why’s that?”
“I’m not an expert on the Adventurers’ Guild, but I believe an interview is required to rank up past B rank, right? Remembering the guys who came to see us the other day, that clan didn’t seem likely to pass anyone’s exam.”
“They’re probably pulling strings behind the scenes or maybe only have a few registered adventurers while the rest are unregistered freelancers.”
“I see. Even though this town is big, it still is just a backwater town, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the guild was involved.”
“Well, there’s no point in pondering over it now. If the guild is involved, it’ll be simple enough to take them out too.”
“That’s true.”
I’m not the kind of person who thinks about doing things for others, but if taking out the guild leads to clues about Saramāju, I wouldn’t hesitate to deal with them too.
After that, we had dinner a bit earlier than usual and enjoyed a refreshing bath at the nice inn before drifting off to sleep.
