Chapter 18
Chapter 018 Layers of Game Tricks
With this steady ambush tactic, the two of them successfully eliminated the remaining two points after that. Ling Mo achieved 16 kills, while Xia Xinyan only managed 5.
Mainly, after the first successful ambush, Ling Mo’s confidence and his manly blood were ignited; he only knew they needed to kill, and he didn’t care about anything else.
Especially since he could show off in front of Xia Xinyan.
I must say, he was pretty accurate; he barely missed a shot. It turned out that his previous training experience was indeed useful.
Xia Xinyan followed closely beside him, acting as a full-on praise BOT.
However, to be fair, setting aside the inner turmoil when facing a girl, Ling Mo’s talents in various areas were indeed not low, and his learning ability was quite high. As long as he had good guidance, he could grow quickly in a short time.
For instance, after experiencing the first ambush, he no longer needed her guidance for the next two, and he even seemed to have formed a guiding momentum of his own. She was glad to relax, enjoying the show, and occasionally throwing out compliments was enough for her.
Moreover, he was doing quite well, balancing everything, and nothing went wrong.
From her perspective at that moment, it was already a pretty good level.
…Is she now bragging about herself?
Whatever, after all, that was her former self; a little self-praise didn’t hurt.
After clearing three resource points, about an hour had passed. They were still some distance from Flat Top Mountain, but through the not-so-dense foliage, they could see what was happening on the mountain.
The sudden roaring sound of an airplane engine from the sky was simply too loud to ignore.
It was a massive transport helicopter.
Soon, it flew over Flat Top Mountain, hovering above, gradually lowering its altitude.
Ling Mo looked at it for a while before turning to Xia Xinyan, “What should we do now?”
He remembered Xia Xinyan mentioning before that this dungeon might not be so easy. Since she knew more about the game than he did, he thought it was better to follow her lead.
Xia Xinyan pondered for a moment and then stopped: “We wait here.”
“Here?” Ling Mo paused and instinctively scanned the surroundings.
All around were grass and trees; while it was concealed, reaching Flat Top Mountain quickly would be hindered by these very obstacles.
If that helicopter was truly the means of evacuation, wouldn’t this put them at a disadvantage?
“Speaking of… if it’s actually evacuating by helicopter, will it fly away if we don’t board it for a long time?” he couldn’t help but ask.
“It won’t,” Xia Xinyan shook her head. “Dungeons won’t create dead ends that can’t be passed. Even if the helicopter flies away, as long as players haven’t completely evacuated, the system will provide other means of escape.”
“Is that so…” Ling Mo thought for a moment and stopped asking.
Xia Xinyan stared at the helicopter, lost in thought.
She was wondering, with such a huge commotion, didn’t the Protection Association on the island take any action?
Since their goal was to eliminate all participants, would they really let such a good opportunity slip by?
Perhaps this thought was overthinking, but she tended to unconsciously think about late-game dungeon tactics.
Most importantly, she didn’t know how many players were still alive in this dungeon—it affected the overall difficulty. The more players, the harder it was, and vice versa, to give the last one or two surviving players a bit of hope for clearing.
So the best course of action now was to wait and see for a while; if anything happened to the helicopter, they wouldn’t be too deeply affected.
—It turned out she guessed right.
As the helicopter was about to land and disappear from view amidst the trees, a sudden flash of white light shot out from the nearby woods, heading straight for the helicopter, then—
BOOM—!!
A massive explosion severed the tail of the helicopter, causing it to lose control and crash into the woods, igniting a series of explosions that even they felt from where they stood.
Meanwhile, a system notification suddenly appeared—
【Breaking News: Evacuation helicopter destroyed by the Fresh Meat Protection Association. The organizers will dispatch evacuation boats shortly; please head there in a timely manner.】
【Breaking News: Fresh Meat Protection Association’s firepower has significantly upgraded; a full-scale attack on the island is imminent.】
【Current Mission: Head to the destination and board the evacuation boats.】
Then, from Flat Top Mountain, a deafening series of explosions began to sound off, spreading outward.
Seeing this, Ling Mo grew anxious: “Should we go?”
“Go!” Xia Xinyan was very decisive. After glancing at the radar for the target points, she ran straight in that direction. “Hurry, the faster, the better!”
This kind of situation indicated that they were reaching the dungeon’s climax, forcing all remaining players into a final task, which was a common game trick.
Moreover, regardless of any traps that might still be ahead, they had to leave. Staying on the island meant risking being hunted down by the Protection Association—Xia Xinyan was sure that at this stage, the Protection Association wouldn’t be as easy to deal with as before.
Ling Mo acted quickly; after she took off, he followed right behind, staying alert to the surroundings and keeping close to Xia Xinyan, ready to protect her at any moment.
Although he wasn’t clear on the game’s tendencies, based on past experiences with major titles, this level of commotion likely indicated a climactic scene, with the difficulty undoubtedly higher than before.
He had vowed to protect Xia Xinyan, and he was determined to do it.
Even if it meant dying, he wouldn’t care.
However, although he prepared for the experience of dying, their path was relatively smooth. Perhaps due to being at a distance from Flat Top Mountain and evacuating quickly, the Protection Association hadn’t managed to catch up right away, which was good news for them.
Unfortunately, the game didn’t intend to let them off that easily.
Just as they were about to reach the beach, a sudden gunshot rang out from the forest; the bullet hit the ground in front of Xia Xinyan, kicking up a cloud of dust.
“Watch out!” Xia Xinyan immediately crouched behind a tree and fired in the direction of the gunshot.
Ling Mo reacted instinctively, crouching down in the grass, aiming in that direction.
It wasn’t until the system notification indicated that Xia Xinyan had achieved three kills that she released the trigger, quickly swapped out her magazine, stepped out from behind the tree, and cautiously scanned the area: “Be careful; there might be more people.”
Ling Mo nodded: “Let’s move slowly; as long as we can board the boat, we should be safe, right?”
“Yeah, let’s go.” Xia Xinyan stayed behind Ling Mo, observing the surroundings with her gun while following him slowly toward the beach.
As they were nearing the beach, she caught a glimpse of several figures in pink clothing emerging from the distant woods, all aiming their weapons this way.
With so many opponents, there wouldn’t be enough time to counterattack. Without hesitation, Xia Xinyan leaped forward, tackling Ling Mo to the ground: “Get down!”
Gunfire erupted almost simultaneously from a distance, kicking up dust around the two of them.
Among the gunshots, Ling Mo suddenly heard a very faint cry of pain from the person on top of him.
This startled him: “Are you hurt?!”
“…Um, no, I just bumped my hand.”
“……”
