Chapter 168
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 161: SS Rank
After the combat exam ended, we returned to the lounge to chat while waiting for the guild master’s interview to start.
“By the way, Fiera is really strong! To think she’d put up such a good fight against Rai, I’m itching to give it a go myself.”
“Yeah. I’m interested in Olga too, especially his fighting spirit and weapon. Let’s have a duel next time.”
“Haha! To think a beautiful girl like you would take interest in me, I’m honored. Sure, once you join the clan, I’ll be your sparring partner. But, to be honest, I’m busy with quests and work, so I can’t stick around for long.”
“I don’t mind. Just fighting you is enough.”
“Is that so?!”
The two of them seemed to hit it off and started discussing their fighting styles and weapons, with Fiera proudly showing off her favorite gauntlet.
“Looks like they’re having fun.”
“Yeah, since Fiera specializes in close combat, they probably have a lot to chat about.”
While I sipped my tea, watching Fiera, Rai, who had taken off his robe, approached me.
“Those two really do seem similar. Oh, and Eir, congratulations on beating Olga!”
“Thanks. It’s all thanks to what I learned from you, Rai.”
“Haha. I was shocked that you were able to mimic my Dream Martial Arts after seeing it just once.”
Rai squinted at me as if trying to figure something out.
“Don’t worry. I’ve never met you before. Just…”
“Just?”
“I’m just a genius.”
From what I gathered from Olga, Rai was in charge of intel within the clan, and it seemed he was trying to probe if I had obtained some info about him from somewhere.
However, today was my first time knowing about him, and I had never seen anything called Dream Martial Arts in my previous life.
“…Pfft. Ahahaha!”
Rai found my answer so amusing that he laughed until tears came into his eyes, and after catching his breath, he apologized between giggles.
“Sorry for laughing so suddenly. But your answer was just too funny!”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I’ve seen plenty of fools who claim to be geniuses or the strongest without possessing any skills, but you’re the first I’ve met who has actual talent and calls himself a genius.”
“Then how about I propose a challenge? Would you like to fight a genius like me?”
“Me?”
“Yes. I want to fight against your Dream Martial Arts. It was the first time I’ve ever seen such an amazing technique!”
“I’m honored to hear that from you, Eir. If you don’t mind, I’d love to.”
“Thanks!”
After a while, we killed time chatting about life after joining the clan, with Iris and the others who joined us along the way until Roushe came to call us.
Guided by Roushe, we were led to the room where the guild master was. Just before entering the room, we were stopped at the door.
“From here on, you’ll go in one by one for your interview. While you wait, please take a seat on the nearby chairs. When you’re done, you can return to the previously mentioned room. Now, Eir, you go first.”
“Understood.”
I knocked on the door and entered to find a gentle-looking elf male with light green hair and long ears standing there, who smiled warmly when I walked in.
“Welcome. So you are Eir.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“Yes. I’m Sharla, the guild master here. Nice to meet you.”
Sharla had such a friendly vibe that I felt nothing terrifying about him, which showed he was quite formidable.
“Haha. Don’t be so cautious; I won’t bite. Well, we are going to have an interview, so it’s not like I won’t be asking anything at all. Anyway, just have a seat.”
“Understood.”
Noting that I was observing him, Sharla chuckled and sat down after confirming I was settled.
“Well, I wanted to start the interview, but to be honest, I don’t have that many questions for you.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I’ve already heard about you from Void’s letter.”
“Oh, from Void?”
His name caught me off guard, but Sharla laughed joyfully at my reaction.
“Yes, it’s Void from the Adventurers’ Guild in the Valentine Duchy.”
“…Could it be that you were former party members?”
“Oh! You’re sharp! That’s right. Void and I used to be in a party together. Well, as we all got older, we couldn’t move like we used to, so we disbanded.”
Sharla said this with a slightly nostalgic smile.
“Honestly, no matter how old you get, it’s hard to get used to seeing your friends age while you stay the same.”
Elves live longer than other races, and with a long life comes many encounters and farewells.
That’s why most elves spend their lives within the Kingdom of God Tree, living with their fellow kind.
“Sorry for getting all gloomy out of nowhere.”
“No, it’s alright. I understand how painful it can be to part with loved ones, so don’t worry about it.”
“You have such a weight to your words. It’s weird; you shouldn’t have lived long enough to have such depth.”
“I believe life is not about the time you’ve lived but the encounters and experiences you’ve had.”
“Haha. You’re right about that. Now, let’s proceed with the interview.”
After that, the interview was just a simple Q&A and wrapped up in about 15 minutes.
“Well, your way of thinking is a bit peculiar, but your personality seems alright. Your skills are more than sufficient; I’ll pass it on to the higher-ups.”
“Thank you.”
“The results will come out in three days, so please stop by the guild at your convenience. I’ll let my assistant, Sheila, know.”
“Understood.”
“That’s it for the interview.”
“Thank you very much.”
“Oh, wait.”
As I stood up to leave the room and touched the door, Sharla called out from behind.
“You helped out the elf kingdom too, didn’t you?”
“About the Hydra incident?”
“Yes, yes. I’m also from there. I heard about it from a friend. I wanted to thank you for that. Really, thank you for saving my homeland.”
“Don’t mention it. I just wanted to fight the Hydra.”
“Hahaha. You really do love to fight, don’t you?”
“Yes. But honestly, with you around, I think the elf kingdom would have been saved even without me.”
“…Is that what you think?”
Sharla let out a slight killing intent, giving off an intimidating aura, and it conveyed just how powerful he was.
(At least, he’s stronger than Cecilia.)
While Cecilia, Shuvina’s mother, was quite powerful, Sharla seemed to be even more so.
“Sorry for stopping you. That’ll be all. Can you call in the next one?”
“Understood.”
Following Sharla’s guidance, I finally left the room, told Fiera waiting in the chairs to go in, and headed back to the lounge.
And then, three days after the promotion exam, Fiera and I successfully climbed to SS Rank, and that day we were celebrated by Shuvina and Iris and the others.
