“Alright! Let’s kick off the first round! The first match will be between Kamael-kun and Melt-chan! Both of you, start getting ready!”

After the incident with Ride, the combat students, excluding me, took turns drawing lots to determine their opponents.

Once everyone was prepared, we moved to the training ground where the entrance exam would take place, double-checking the rules before the ranked matches began.

The first match featured Kamael and Melt, both magicians, and they were set to open the competition.

However, like me, it seemed Kamael had no interest in the ranked matches. Almost immediately after they began, he raised both hands in surrender.

Melt, probably caught off guard by such an early concession, halted her spellcasting mid-way and stood there in shock for a moment.

The second match showcased Fiera against a spear-wielder named Gazelle, who deftly managed to fend Fiera off with his spear, but with overwhelming experience and skill, Fiera easily landed a blow to his stomach, sending him crashing to the ground.

In the third bout, Ride faced off against a female magician named Silfa. Silfa, confident in her magic power, continuously unleashed spells, but Ride swiftly cut through the incoming magic with his sword, closing the distance using physical enhancement before leveling his sword at her throat, sealing his victory.

And now, the fourth match begins. The other matches had been dull to watch, but this one was different.

“Now, let’s start the fourth match between Sonia-chan and Shuvina-chan! Once you’re both ready, please step up on stage!”

As Lime announced, the fourth match was a ranked battle between Sonia and Shuvina, and I was a bit excited to see how far Sonia had grown and what kind of combat Shuvina would display against her.

“Hehe. I never expected to fight Shuvina right from the start.”

“Me neither. Up next is that guy named Ride, but honestly, that doesn’t matter anymore. What’s more important is that I get to fight you, Sonia.”

“Exactly. I was annoyed when Ride mocked Lewis, but now I’m looking forward to fighting you more than that.”

Both of them had harbored anger towards Ride for disparaging Lewis, but right now, they were buzzing with anticipation for their battle against each other.

“And that guy? Fiera will take care of him, I’m sure.”

“I agree. Iris seemed really upset too, so I doubt he’ll get off easy without us doing anything.”

“So, we can just leave that guy to Fiera and the others.”

“That’s right. So let’s give it our all. I’ll show Shuvina and Lewis how much I’ve grown!”

Eager to fight, both girls released their magic power, causing Shuvina’s green mana and Sonia’s purple mana to clash, creating an illusion that the air itself was creaking.

“Okay! It seems like both of you are ready. Such impressive magic! I’m barely standing here! I want to tell you both to go all out, but I can’t guarantee the substitute wristband can take it, so please be moderate! Now, let the match begin!”

With Lime’s signal, she stepped back from Shuvina and Sonia, taking a position alongside the other students to watch.

However, even as they released their magic, it seemed neither was eager to attack, both judging the other’s movements.

“Shuvina, aren’t you summoning Dōna?”

“Oh? If you want me to summon her, you’ll have to show me a suitable level of skill first.”

“Hehe. So you’re underestimating me?”

“I’m not underestimating you. I just don’t think it’s necessary to summon Dōna yet.”

“Even you, Shuvina, are starting to annoy me a bit. I’ll force you to summon her! ‘Dark Blade!'”

Sonia initiated the first attack, conjuring around fifteen dark blades that surrounded Shuvina before launching them all at once.

“Hehe. Something like this can’t take me down.”

In response, Shuvina nocked an arrow onto her silver bow, elegantly dodging the approaching blades as she shot them down.

“Hmph. You think you can defeat me with such basic moves?”

“Of course not. This was just a feint. Now, how about this?”

Sonia said this as she grabbed a black item wound around her thigh with her right hand.

“Is that… a whip?”

“Yes, indeed. It seems I have a knack for this.”

With a smile, Sonia cracked the whip against the ground, the sharp sound resonating through the training ground.

“Well, you certainly look good with that.”

“Thanks! I really like this weapon too.”

“Then let’s see what your skills are like.”

Next, it was Shuvina’s turn to attack. She rapidly shot five arrows, her gaze curiously fixed on how Sonia would respond.

“Hehe.”

Sonia didn’t dodge the arrows that were closing in. Instead, she whipped around, swinging the whip so fast it seemed to leave sound itself behind. The arrows were expertly knocked to the ground.

“No way…”

“Too easy. And you got careless.”

Shuvina was slightly surprised by Sonia’s whip skills, and Sonia seized that moment to entangle Shuvina’s leg with the whip.

“Ah!”

With the whip tightening around her ankle, Shuvina lost her balance but quickly righted herself and distanced herself.

“Phew. Looks like you’ve grown beyond just your magic.”

“Of course! A magician without magic is as good as dead. I know that better than anyone.”

A magician becomes powerless without magic.

It was something she, who hadn’t been able to use magic for over a decade, understood all too well. It was also a lesson from her idol, Lewis.

“That’s right. In that case, I suppose I should get a bit more serious.”

“That’s the spirit! I want to see how my power measures against you both, whom I’ve admired!”

No longer sizing each other up, the two began to fight with enthusiasm, forgetting the surroundings.

Shuvina’s wind magic and fighting spirit-coated arrows gouged the ground, while Sonia’s dark magic and whip seemed to shatter the very air.

It was like a small-scale disaster, and the surrounding students looked ready to flee.

The battle felt like it could go on forever, but everything must come to an end, and soon their fight would reach an unexpected conclusion.

“This will decide it!!”

“There’s no way the same trick will work twice!!”

Just like before, Shuvina shot five arrows at Sonia, who flawlessly knocked them all down with her whip.

“Hmph. You think I’d do the same thing?”

“What?!”

The moment Sonia knocked down all the arrows and readied a counterattack, dozens of arrows began to rain down from above.

“Uh-oh!”

Not missing the chance as Sonia was distracted by the arrows, Shuvina surged forward using her fighting spirit, entwining Sonia’s whip around her arm purposely. She drew a dagger gifted by the Kingdom of God Tree, and with momentum, kicked Sonia down to the ground.

“Hah, hah. Looks like I win.”

Shuvina pinned Sonia to the ground with her foot and pressed the dagger to her neck, gasping for breath as she declared her victory.

“Hah. That’s right. I lost.”

“The match is over! The winner of the fourth round is Shuvina-chan!”

As Lime announced the victor, Shuvina extended her hand to Sonia. Sonia took it and got up.

“Hehe. You really are strong. In the end, you didn’t even need to summon Dōna.”

“You’ve grown a lot too, Sonia. If this weren’t the place, I might have had to summon Dōna to win.”

“Hmm. So that means if you summon Dōna, you’ll win?”

“That’s right. But for now, I’m still ahead, so I’m sorry but I would win then.”

“Hehe. I’m really glad I chased after you guys to get here.”

“Why do you feel that way?”

“Because in front of me are Shuvina, and Fiera, and ahead of them is Lewis. It’s a blessing to have so many backs to chase after. Really… I’m so glad to have met you all.”

Sonia smiled nostalgically recalling her first meetings with Lewis. Lime then told her to clear the stage, so she hopped down.

“By the way, how did you pull off that last move? The one with the arrows raining down from above. I didn’t notice a thing.”

“Oh, that? It’s a combination of this bow’s ability and wind magic. The arrows I shoot with this bow can become invisible, so I shot them upwards gradually during the fight and held them in place with wind magic until the right moment.”

“I see. So you used the same attack to distract and let me down my guard.”

“Exactly. If someone who lacks experience encounters the same attack they’ve already defended against, they tend to get careless. Given how Sonia fought, I figured she might not have much experience in one-on-one fights, so I thought it could work.”

The two continued to reflect on their performance as they headed back to where Lewis and Fiera were waiting, seeking opinions from the two they admired for their future endeavors.
