Chapter 149
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 142: I Wanted to See You
The day after the entrance ceremony. I was waking up to the second morning in my familiar dorm room.
“Miria.”
“Yes?”
“What do you plan to do today?”
“Today there’s a gathering for the servants, where they will explain our actions and points to note within the academy. After that, I’ll prepare lunch for Lord Lewis.”
“Hmm. Then make it meat for lunch. I’m in the mood for meat today.”
“Understood. I will prepare it as you requested.”
When it comes to lunch at the academy, there are mainly three choices.
The first is to eat in the cafeteria. The cafeteria is a place I used during the entrance exam, and it serves various dishes from different countries to accommodate students from abroad, but it tends to be a bit pricey.
The second option is to prepare it myself. There’s a cooking area on the first floor of the dormitory that’s free to use, and if I buy ingredients in town beforehand, I can prepare lunch there.
The third option is to have servants prepare it. This is only possible for nobles who have brought their servants; they have their own designated cooking area, and they can prepare meals according to their masters’ instructions.
“I’m looking forward to it. Oh, and don’t put any weird medicine in it. It ruins the flavor.”
“Understood.”
That weird medicine refers to the concoctions Miria started adding to my food and drinks after returning from our journey.
Apparently, it’s some kind of medicine meant to keep my body healthy, and she’s become quite knowledgeable about health-related potions as she’s trained within the intelligence agency.
(I wouldn’t mind being poisoned, but ruining a delicious meal with her bitter medicine is another story.)
While some poisons are tasteless and odorless, the old saying “good medicine tastes bitter” certainly applies here—her health potions are notoriously bitter.
“Alright, I’m off.”
“Yes. Have a safe trip.”
Waved off by Miria, I left my room and joined Fiera and the others waiting at the entrance of the dormitory before heading to the classroom.
When I arrived, most of the students were already gathered, and I began searching for the person I was looking for near the entrance.
(…Haha. Found you!)
“Fiera, you guys find some seats randomly.”
“What about El?”
“I have something to take care of.”
“…Got it.”
Fiera glanced at the spot I was previously looking at and seemed to understand what I needed to do, leading Shuvina over to a window seat.
“Now then. Time for me to head over too.”
After parting ways with Fiera and the others, I made my way to a corner seat close to the hallway where a sleeping guy was, sitting down beside him and lightly tapping the desk.
“Mm… Who?”
“Hey. Want to talk for a bit?”
“…Huh? Could it be, Lewis Valentine?”
“That’s right. You’re Kamael Albani, right? From the Albani Count House?”
“Yeah, that’s me.”
The Albani Count House. It’s a family feared both domestically and abroad, known for its assassins. While the Valentine and Holstein Duke Houses protect the empire openly, the Albani Count House does so from the shadows.
That said, the Albani family doesn’t hide their activities; they openly state their family name and profession.
It serves as a warning to nobles at home and abroad, making it clear that they won’t hesitate to act against anyone trying to undermine the empire.
And the next heir of this infamous house, Kamael, was right in front of me, his long blond hair tied back, and his slightly sleepy pale green eyes were looking at me quizzically.
“What do you want from me?”
“Well, there’s nothing particularly urgent, but I thought I’d like to get to know you better.”
“Huh?”
“What if I said I came to this academy just to meet you, Kamael?”
As soon as I said that, the nearby female students gasped, covering their mouths with their hands, and one even held a handkerchief to her nose.
Among them were Iris and Sonia, who looked just as taken aback.
“…What should I do? What does that even mean?”
“I think you should just befriend me?”
“I’m not interested in that kind of thing, though.”
“Don’t worry. I don’t have any intentions like that for you, a guy.”
Kamael stared at me thoughtfully for a moment, then let out a deep sigh, resting his chin on his hand in a lazy manner.
“What’s the benefit for me in this friendship?”
“I’ll fulfill your wishes.”
“Wishes? You don’t even know what mine are…”
Just as Kamael was about to say he didn’t think I’d know, I silently mouthed his wishes to him.
Being an assassin, he quickly interpreted my lips, and his droopy eyes widened in surprise.
“How do you know…?”
“Ahaha. Who knows? So, what do you say? Will you befriend me?”
“…Ugh. Fine, I’ll be friends with you. But I won’t do anything special.”
“I don’t have anything in mind either. Just hang out with me sometimes.”
“Understood. But I’m going back to sleep now.”
“Ah. I hope you have sweet dreams.”
“Haha. I’ll take that as sarcasm.”
With that, Kamael immediately fell asleep, and having finished my business, I stood up and made my way to the window seats where Fiera and the others were.
“Lewis, you don’t mean to say you actually have that kind of taste… That’s why you aren’t returning our feelings?”
“Of course not.”
“But El, when you met that person, you looked so happy, like you reunited with a loved one.”
“Love… huh.”
I guess Shirvana often teases me, so she might have expected a witty comeback. But it seemed Fiera shared a similar thought, given how she was watching me.
“It’s not love, but maybe it’s not entirely wrong.”
I wasn’t sure how to express this feeling, but upon reflection, it might indeed be a feeling close to love.
(If I were to put my feelings about him into words, it would definitely resonate better as longing. Haha. I’m really looking forward to it. I want to see him soon…)
Imagining my upcoming school life with Kamael brought a smile to my face as I surrendered to the drowsiness beckoned by the sunlight streaming through the window and fell asleep on my water cushion.
“Good morning, everyone! What a beautiful day!”
Waking up to the cheerful voice of Lime making her grand entrance, I stretched my body, still feeling the warmth surrounding me.
“What a lovely day! Days like this are perfect for something good to happen! Now, let’s go over today’s schedule!”
As Lime grabbed some chalk, she started writing out our plans for the day on the blackboard.
“Today, we’ll give you a tour of the academy in the morning! Most of you probably figured out just how vast this place is by now, right? There are students who get lost every year, so make sure to remember where everything is!
When that’s done, we’ll break for lunch! The cafeteria’s offering fresh fish sashimi today, which sounds delicious! Apparently, it’s thanks to the efforts of an ice-element magician!
And after lunch is over, you’ll get to choose your classes! This choice will affect your future, so make sure to think carefully about it!”
According to Lime’s explanation, today’s schedule would involve a tour of the academy and class selections.
However, I already had all the locations in mind and wasn’t planning to take any courses except for the mandatory ones, so it felt like another boring day ahead.
“Annnnd! The welcome party for the new students will be on the night of the next holiday! Get excited! If anyone has a fiancé, it might be a good idea to escort them. Let’s get going, everyone!!”
As Lime left the classroom with her enthusiastic proclamation, the students who had been in front started to follow her out into the hallway.
Amidst all this, I suddenly remembered the event I had forgotten about while my head was full of thoughts about Kamael and felt a wave of gloom wash over me.
(That’s right. There’s the welcome party for the new students.)
The welcome party is an event held on the first holiday after enrollment, kind of like a party organized by the upperclassmen for us.
(I really don’t want to go since it sounds like a hassle, but as a noble, I have to attend, and more importantly…)
Because Lime had mentioned going to the welcome party with a fiancé, Iris kept glancing over at me, clearly wanting an invitation.
(It’s such a pain, but if I don’t invite her, it’ll be a hassle for my family, and I have Fiera and the others here too. It’d be a mess if I went to the party without inviting my fiancé and ended up with some other girl.)
“…I guess I have no choice. I’ll just fulfill my duty this time.”
Honestly, I’d prefer to avoid unwanted hassles, but this event could also lead to me meeting the protagonist.
Thinking it wouldn’t hurt to gauge Iris’s reaction, I decided this time, as a noble and technically as her fiancé, I would fulfill my obligations.
