Chapter 131
[Movie Date with Miro]
-???
-What’s the title?
“Today is the day for our simultaneous viewing, right?”
-Oh
-Return?
-Haven’t you seen it yet?
“Hey, no spoilers, please.”
Since it’s a blockbuster movie, it seems many viewers had already seen it.
But then again, it’s not a famous anime, and since my viewers are here, there are probably more who haven’t seen it.
“Spoilers are banned. It’s subscriber-only chat, so let’s all keep it classy.”
-LOL
-Hmm…
-So, what’s the ending…?
Still, not knowing what chaos might ensue, I made the chat subscriber-only.
“Everyone brought the movie, right?”
Even though it’s a simultaneous viewing, if I play the movie, I’ll be caught.
I have to adhere to copyright, so the viewers have to play the movie on their own, showing the time in one corner of the screen while reacting together.
-What? Bought it?
-You can watch it on NoNoTV.
-Purchase?
-It’s free here, though?
-I’m watching the real deal, free download!
“Hm, I wouldn’t know about that. I watch it on ott.”
Though I say that, everyone is probably watching it on ott.
As expected for a famous movie, it’s available on most ott sites.
-LOL
-Yeah, Miro, pay for your ticket~
-So gullible?
…Yeah, probably?
I’m not sure.
“Anyway, let’s pull out our snacks now that the movie’s starting!”
-I ordered chicken!
-Are you pulling something out?
“I’m full from dinner.”
I already stuffed myself with tteok-twi-sun.
Maybe that’s why I didn’t have much desire for more food.
-What did you eat??
-But it’s a movie, at least grab a snack!
“What did I eat? I had tteok-twi-sun.”
-Wow
-You sound like a high school girl.
-Cool.
-Sigh, what kind of dinner is tteok-twi-sun?
“Actually, I don’t usually eat much, but a friend insisted we order together.”
-You have a friend?
-How much younger than you is she? LOL
-Is she a high school girl too?
“Is she a high school girl? Well, something like that.”
It can be similar with just a letter changed.
“Well, since everyone’s pulled out their snacks, should I pull something out too? I have lots of snacks in my drawer.”
I don’t usually indulge in snacks, but I have plenty.
I opened the drawer and pulled out one of the snacks inside.
“Here’s a snack that Tenshi left behind.”
These are the Korean snacks Tenshi excitedly bought.
It’s been quite a while since I returned to Japan, yet they still remain.
-Didn’t you eat that last time?
-Still got some, LOL
-How much did you buy back then?
“Surprisingly? I could eat for at least another month.”
Although it’s partly because I don’t eat much.
Generally, I don’t consume much, especially since I have a low activity level.
Even though I’ve been getting more active lately with dance lessons.
Thus, I pulled out some snacks to enjoy while watching the movie, fully preparing myself.
“Now let’s start the movie. Here’s the timer below.”
I displayed the timer on the broadcast screen and played the movie on a monitor that didn’t stream.
“Let’s go.”
At first, the screen showed the familiar opening sequence of the movie, with the background emerging.
Right away, space.
A space station resembling the International Space Station floated in front, with Earth clearly visible nearby.
“Oh, a space station.”
-Is that the Korean space station?
-Great Korea!
-How grand!
The camera zoomed in closer and closer to the space station.
Through the transparent window of the space station, a man appeared.
-Wow
-WTF, LOL
-He’s really handsome.
-Please don’t ruin it!
-FML, LOL
The moment he appeared, viewers threw in remarks of praise and insults toward the man who was Moon Chang-sik.
Maybe it was from a few years back? He looked a bit different from the last time I saw him.
How should I put it? He looked younger and more youthful?
[Hey, Kang-seok, what are you doing right now?]
A middle-aged man approached Moon Chang-sik and slung an arm over his shoulder.
He gives off a familiar vibe and has a smooth personality, a renowned actor.
[Oh, I was looking at a picture of my younger sister.]
[Ji-yoon? Ah, look at you doting on your sister—my sister just borrows money from me all the time.]
[Haha, but I think there’s quite an age gap, she just looks cute.]
It seems Moon Chang-sik’s character, Moon Kang-seok, is quite protective of his sister.
“Sister, this is a melodramatic element.”
-So true, LOL
-Give off a vibe of the Legend of the Sword, huh?
-Later, you’re gonna need to cry!
“See it? It’s basically a scene where he nearly dies and has an emotional reunion with his sister upon returning to Earth. Can you see that?”
-Why spoil it?
-Really…
-I saw it all.
-Let’s watch something else?
“Hey, the movie is about the process, not the outcome. Don’t let your eyes wander to the predetermined future; stay focused on the present.”
-It hasn’t been predetermined yet.
-You spoiled it anyway!
-Could it be that obvious?
“Okay, okay, focus! It’s time for the introduction of characters, don’t miss it!”
Just as I instructed, the characters started to appear one by one.
First, everyone from Moon Kang-seok’s space station appeared, followed by the camera shifting to Earth, showing the people in it.
[When’s my brother coming back?]
[Hey, your brother went to space.]
[Space? Where is that?]
[Over the sky, beyond, right?]
A man with a thick accent, presumably a childhood friend of Moon Kang-seok, chatted with the younger sister, whom we saw in the picture earlier.
Hmm, I wonder if the parents are absent? Since a grandmother appeared earlier, it seems both parents are gone, leaving her to live with her grandmother.
“But dang, the kid is adorable and acts really well.”
-So true.
-A promising talent!
-Didn’t she make a name for herself with this role?
“Really? Well, she does have a sharp demeanor.”
Now that I think about it, wasn’t Moon Chang-sik also a child actor once?
For sure, starting with acting experience and connections from a young age seems to set one up better for success.
Anyway, as time passed in the movie, we entered a crisis scene.
The infamous meteor K-5112 made its appearance.
The international space observation center had detected the meteor heading straight for Earth.
But…
[What do you mean?]
[That’s how it happened. Everyone, set your positions and prepare to return!]
By chance or fate, the course of the meteor coincidentally intersects with the Korean space station “Rest-17.”
If the meteor passed by, the space station would cease to function anyway.
So, the government decided to slightly adjust the location of the space station to serve as a buffer against the meteor’s damage.
There were all sorts of lobby activities going on behind the scenes, and other international organizations were involved, but it was dull, so I can’t quite remember it.
“Wait, is this even possible? Using a space station to block a meteor?”
-What?
-It’s a movie, doesn’t it work then?
-Anything is better than it hitting Earth.
“A space station costs dozens of trillions, doesn’t it? It’d be better to throw a body onto Earth…”
-OMG
-Hey, human lives come first!
-People are more important than money!
“Anyway, let’s just keep watching for now.”
It seemed they were effortlessly adjusting the location of the space station and preparing to return to Earth…
But then…
[Captain, it’s not responding!]
[Then just get over here, for now! Escaping comes first!]
[But if we don’t do this…]
Not understanding the various lobbying matters, Moon Kang-seok believed firmly that if he didn’t take the plunge, there’d be a catastrophic loss of life. In the end, when everyone else evacuated, he successfully maneuvered the controls to change their position.
“Ugh.”
-😭😭
-No.
-😭😭
Just like that, while Moon Kang-seok remained alone in the space station, the meteor approached.
“Whoa, it’s about to hit.”
Bang!!
The space station collides with the meteor, leading to a spectacular explosion.
Honestly, it was quite a spectacle. The level of CGI was impressive.
-Ouch
-That’s a goner.
-RIP 😭
-Three-body problem…
“Don’t worry, it’s still the middle of the movie; he’s not dead. There’s still an hour and a half left.”
-No way, you better not spoil!
-Don’t watch the movie at all;
Well, the chat was in outrage, but what could I do with all that time left?
Most likely, Moon Kang-seok lived.
Look at that, he’s floating around, right?
That was the emergency escape pod explained earlier.
“See? He’s alive! Looks like retrieving him is the key now.”
-Why the spoiler?
-I’ve seen the film too.
-This dude is the worst.
“No seriously, I really haven’t seen it. What do you want me to do, I just have good intuition!”
-Stop messing around! LOL
-If that’s the case, you should watch the movie.
-Sigh, I don’t even know how to enjoy it.
[Thanks for the 1,000 won donation!]
Miro, are you the type to talk during the movie in the theater?
“Of course, I’ll definitely talk! Don’t worry, I whisper it softly.”
Isn’t that why we go to the movie theater together?
If I think of something in the middle of it, I gotta say it.
-What a jerk this is.
-Whispering, huh?
-I’m like that too.
-Let’s not go to the movies together then.
“It seems opinions are divided. But wasn’t I right? The screen is changing now.”
Just as I said, the screen changed to show Moon Kang-seok, who barely survived in the emergency escape pod.
[Ugh… where am I?]
In the cramped emergency escape pod, the remaining oxygen and power are displayed blatantly.
Seeing the emergency food beside him, it looks like he must be saved before they run out.
“Now shortly, the scene will shift to Earth, and he’ll have a heartwarming struggle to save him.”
-Heck no,
-Cut it out.
-Ugh, LOL
-It’s pretty predictable, huh?
After this, the movie unfolded just as I expected.
Moon Kang-seok’s teammates, upon returning to Earth, initially mourned him, but soon realized that they received a signal from the emergency escape pod.
They then began efforts to rally public opinion to rescue him, leading to an intense struggle against the government, who didn’t want to experience further losses.
Throughout, they showed glimpses of Moon Kang-seok’s younger sister, Ji-yoon, tugging at the audience’s heartstrings.
Finally, after their efforts, the rescue team sets out.
By the way, seeing that they built an emergency rescue ship so casually, it seems the technology here is a bit above our reality.
“Tech advancements really move fast, huh? They whip up a rescue ship like that.”
-Well, doesn’t it have some convenient setting?
-They explained earlier, but you didn’t pay attention.
-They’ve developed in this direction.
“Oh, really? Convenient settings all around.”
-So true, LOL
-Korean movies are like that, right?
Though I say that, it genuinely had its enjoyable bits. The comedic and emotional moments really showcased its value as an entertainment film.
Then the rescue team finally launched, but the scene switched back to space, showing the emergency escape pod reaching its limits.
Moon Kang-seok had been desperately struggling to survive but now had reached the edge.
As the oxygen continued to drain and the temperature dropped, Moon Kang-seok recorded his last video message.
[Ji… Ji-yoon, I’m sorry.]
-😭😭😭
-Ji-yoon! 😭
Thus, with the power running out, the lights of the emergency escape pod flickered off, and the screen gradually shrank, showing the emergency escape pod left alone in the cold, dark space.
“What? No way, is this really the end?”
-??
-What?
-Death?
-😭😭
Hurrying to check the time, I realized there were still 15 minutes left.
So it couldn’t be the ending.
“Looks like there’s some time left before it ends?”
-You jerk.
-Looks like a spoiler from the time! LOL
-Huh?
As I began to focus back on the movie, the now-dimmed emergency escape pod remained suspended.
Did he really die?
Is it a sad ending?
What kind of movie is this…
While I was internally confused,
from one side of space came a late-arriving spaceship.
“Ugh, talk about being late.”
-So true, LOL
-That’s ridiculously late.
-Sigh, this is a disaster.
“What about Ji-yoon?”
-Seriously, 😭
-What can we do? When filming concludes, we’ll head home.
“Still, since space is cold, wouldn’t he be frozen? It looks like the technology is a little superior to real life, so thawing him out should work, right?”
-Are you really saying that now?
-People aren’t pizza;
-Let’s just turn him into a grave.
“Oh look, the lights are coming back on over there?”
At that moment, the emergency escape pod that lost power flickered back to life.
The fellow astronauts hurried over to pull the escape pod toward their ship.
[Kang-seok!]
[We’re here!]
And so in the sub-zero emergency escape pod, his teammates rescued Moon Kang-seok, pulling him out.
-Did that just happen?
-That’s a bit much;
-Wow.
“Wow… the direction is pretty good.”
To be honest, it felt somewhat forced, but it still managed to fulfill its role as an entertaining film. It was thanks to the actors’ skills and decent direction.
-The direction isn’t bad.
-How much did they spend on CG?
Thus, successfully rescued, Moon Kang-seok returned to Earth.
With his teammates rallying public opinion to form a rescue team, he heroically returned to the people, soon facing his little sister, Ji-yoon.
“The ending is indeed melodramatic; you’ll be crying here.”
-😭😭
-😢
-LOL
-Industrial tear gas! LOL
-Sigh, more melodrama.
The chat filled with fake tears, as Moon Kang-seok, finally back from space, reunited with his little sister.
[Oppa!!]
With his face flushed red, Ji-yoon sobbed, burying her face into one of Moon Kang-seok’s legs as she bawled her eyes out.
“Uhm…”
But wait.
It’s clearly a designed emotional reunion…
I’ve always been the type unaffected by scenes like this.
But is it different now that I’m a woman?
“Wow, this girl is acting really well…”
Suddenly, my heart tinged a little.
When Moon Kang-seok was facing death earlier, I didn’t feel sad at all, but seeing a little girl cry just triggered my tears.
[Waaah!]
[Yes, Ji-yoon, I’m back…]
[You took too long!]
Watching Ji-yoon and Moon Kang-seok’s emotional reunion, all of Moon Kang-seok’s sacrifices flashed through my mind.
From being left alone in the emergency escape pod in the middle of the film, to holding on solely with the wish to see his little sister.
-Uh?
-For real? LOL
-You crying?
“Uh, no, I-uuh…”
Honestly, I tried to hold back out of embarrassment.
But a small sniffle escaped me.
And upon hearing that noise, the chat quickly caught on that I had shed a tear.
-LOLOL
-LOL
-Miro is crying! LOL
-LOL
…No.
To be honest, it was slightly moving.
I was feeling the emotional essence of a movie designed to make one cry.
So I got my money’s worth out of this movie.
It’s you who didn’t enjoy it fully if you didn’t cry.
And truthfully, I didn’t even cry.
It was just a reflex tear from industrial tear gas.
Yeah, that’s right.
I didn’t cry at all.
