Chapter 128
Chapter 128: Just Show the Result (2)
Everyone was at a loss in the face of the ominous warning.
But Ghislaine ignored her warning and boldly stepped into the room.
The space where the high-ranking noble young lady lived was rather shabby.
‘Is she really living in a place like this?’
The butler’s expression slightly hardened, perhaps feeling ashamed of showing such a poor state to Ghislaine and her companions.
“Young Lady, it is the Marquis’s command. For the next fortnight, Baron Penris will treat your skin.”
“……”
“He is well-versed in medicine and herbalism. He even personally created the cosmetics that are trending in the capital.”
“……”
Even as the butler continued to explain, Rosalyn gasped silently, taking deep breaths.
Her expression was hidden under a mask, but one could tell how she felt just from the atmosphere she exuded.
Ghislaine clicked her tongue at that sight.
‘There’s no record of her living like this… Not that this would be common knowledge. They must have kept it tightly under wraps.’
The records from my previous life offered little detail about how Rosalyn lived. Mainly that she lived quietly in hiding after her marriage.
The only remnants noted her past good reputation, as the butler mentioned.
‘Well, that doesn’t concern me. As long as she gets treated, we won’t need to see each other again.’
Ghislaine cleared her throat and spoke softly.
“I am Ghislaine. I will treat your illness from now on…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Rosalyn interrupted with an ominous voice.
“I don’t need it. Please leave.”
Her tone was as cold as ice. It was almost a courtesy that she was still using honorifics.
Ghislaine quietly gazed into her eyes.
Rosalyn’s eyes were filled with resentment and hatred.
‘It’s really bad.’
A mixture of self-loathing and insurmountable problems burned darkly in her heart.
Ghislaine had often seen people show such looks.
When people like this hold it in and eventually explode, they tend to take many down with them.
‘Still, she seems to be somehow restraining herself.’
There were no records from my previous life indicating that Rosalyn had gone mad and killed someone recklessly.
Perhaps isolating herself like this was also a means of preventing such an accident.
‘Even so, such fierce rejection isn’t normal.’
Normally, someone suffering from illness would cling to any mention of treatment, even if it meant grasping at straws.
Rejecting it to this extent doesn’t make sense.
Noticing Ghislaine’s puzzled expression, the butler spoke in a bitter tone.
“Young Lady, you’ve suffered greatly due to previous treatments. That’s why she is acting this way.”
“Ugh…”
Ghislaine understood the unsaid words and clicked her tongue.
‘So she doesn’t even trust me because of those guys.’
Ghislaine could relate to Rosalyn’s feelings. If there were side effects and she ended up living like that for the rest of her life, it would be more terrifying than death.
‘There’s no helping it. For now, I need to earn her trust first. Anyway, those dubious people are the problem.’
Ghislaine forced a smile.
“You’ve been through a lot, Young Lady. But I’m different from those doctors.”
Rosalyn tilted her head skeptically and asked.
“How are you different?”
“I’m putting my life on the line for this treatment.”
“Pfft.”
Ghislaine spoke very seriously, but all she received in return was laughter.
Rosalyn laughed heartily, not even bothering to hide it, before saying in a sharp voice.
“Do you think none of the other doctors treating me put their lives on the line?”
“……”
“Those who come to gain wealth and fame always say the same thing. ‘I’ll put my life on the line to surely treat the Young Lady’s illness!’”
“……”
“Should I tell you how all those people ended up?”
Rosalyn couldn’t contain her bubbling anger, ultimately raising her voice.
She poked Ghislaine’s chest with her finger as she continued speaking.
“Do you really think you’re special just because your cosmetics are selling well? You seem to think you’re something significant, but your life is no different than the food scraps I throw away. Even if you walked around, you’d have no value.”
“Ah, Young Lady! You shouldn’t say that!”
Even the butler began to sweat profusely, trying to intervene.
But she continued to ridicule Ghislaine without listening.
“Oh, there is one difference. There’s never been a noble doctor. You’ll be the first noble to lose your head. That’d be entertaining.”
“……”
“Well, just being a noble is nothing more than selling cosmetics. I doubt it would be a problem if you died. What do you think?”
It seemed she no longer saw her status, situation, or even the people around her.
Ghislaine, unable to find any opportunity to interject amidst the relentless barrage of insults, wore a blank expression.
‘Is she maybe venting her frustration on me?’
After all, she must have been avoiding everyone, so it was understandable if she had pent-up irritation to release.
But standing next to her was Belinda, who couldn’t tolerate Ghislaine being insulted.
“Young Lady! You’re being too harsh! What wrong has our Young Master done to be treated this way on first meeting!”
She stepped forward and shouted loudly.
Rosalyn turned to Belinda, then remained silent for a long moment.
And her breathing became heavier.
Seeing the hatred-filled look in Rosalyn’s eyes, Belinda stepped back in surprise.
‘Oh no, did I make a mistake? I should have stayed quiet.’
Ghislaine anxiously scanned Rosalyn’s expression, realizing the precariousness of the situation.
Belinda had been diligently applying cosmetics, making her skin shine with a glowing luster.
With Rosalyn’s already unstable mental state due to her skin issues, it was hardly comforting to see someone with such exquisite skin.
Ghislaine positioned herself between the two, forcing a smile.
“Haha, Young Lady. Just listen to me for a moment…”
“Leave.”
“No, please don’t do that. I’m here to treat you…”
“Leave! Get out!”
Rosalyn screamed and began throwing objects in the room again.
The butler urgently grabbed Ghislaine’s arm, saying.
“Let’s step out for now. It might be best to visit her once she calms down a bit.”
“Yeah, that’s probably a good idea.”
As Ghislaine avoided the incoming projectiles, they eventually stepped outside.
Thud.
Even after the door closed, the sound of things shattering inside continued for quite some time.
Ghislaine scratched her chin, wearing a troubled expression.
“We need to calm her down and have a proper conversation before we can start treatment.”
“Let’s just go back. What treatment can happen in a state like that? We can’t even get close. I doubt the Marquis would say anything if the person being treated doesn’t want help.”
Claude’s words resonated with the others, who nodded in agreement.
But Ghislaine shook her head.
“That’s not an option. I can’t just leave without knowing what might happen next.”
She had risked everything to come here with a purpose; she couldn’t just walk away after being rejected once.
Claude clicked his tongue in frustration.
“How on earth do you plan to persuade someone like that? She seems too far gone with distrust after everything she’s been through. There’s no communicating with her.”
“Hmm, yes, I suppose we first need to calm her down before…”
“Is that even possible? It seems like she’s rotting from the inside out due to her illness.”
“……We have to attempt conversation.”
“But we already tried, and it didn’t work.”
Ghislaine frowned and glared at Claude, who flinched and shifted his gaze away, pretending to look elsewhere.
After some contemplation, Ghislaine struck upon a good solution and nodded.
“Let’s just force the treatment.”
The group momentarily doubted their ears and tilted their heads.
Belinda asked for confirmation.
“What did you just say?”
“Let’s just grab her and force the treatment on her.”
“…Is that allowed?”
“We didn’t get permission initially anyway, so what’s it matter? Just show the result. Right?”
Ghislaine looked at the butler for agreement. The butler stammered a response.
“W-well, forcibly doing it is… How about we take some time to persuade her instead?”
“Why would we persuade when she’s that poisoned and uncommunicative? We’ve only got a fortnight left!”
“Um, well… about that…”
“We can’t just twiddle our thumbs and die. I’ll handle it, so just cooperate. After all, you’re not responsible for our lives, right?”
“Ah, understood.”
With the butler’s agreement, there was nothing holding Ghislaine back. She immediately began giving orders.
“Okay, first let me know what herbs to prepare. Get the highest quality Mandragora roots so I can take them twice a day.”
“Mandragora roots?”
The butler, along with the others, looked dumbfounded.
Mandragora roots are known as vitality boosters, but they are mainly consumed by men.
The heat they contained was generally thought to be detrimental to women’s health.
Ghislaine, sensing their doubts, chose not to elaborate and simply stated her intentions.
“Right, it’s essential to treat the Marquis’s young lady. Also, gather a few more herbs.”
The butler nodded with a worried expression. Since the Marquis Branford had given his approval, opposing it now would be fruitless.
*
Most of the herbs Ghislaine required were rare and expensive.
However, the House of Marquis managed to procure the herbs and bring them back within just half a day, if not less.
Impressed again by the vast resources and power of the Branford House, Ghislaine carefully checked the status of the decoction.
“Alright, let’s head to the Young Lady now.”
Belinda tentatively asked.
“But how will you get inside the room? If she doesn’t open the door…”
“If all else fails, we’ll break it down. Still, that would look bad, so let’s see if the butler can charm her first.”
“Me? Really?”
The butler looked bewildered at Ghislaine.
“Who else then? Or should I just tell the Marquis to pretend this never happened? Can you take that responsibility?”
With a sigh, the butler nodded.
The group hurried back to Rosalyn’s room.
Knock, knock.
As soon as the butler knocked, Rosalyn shouted from inside, filled with annoyance.
“What? Didn’t I tell you not to come in?”
The butler trembled as he replied.
“W-we’ve brought new servants to attend to you, Young Lady.”
“What? Why are you doing things that I haven’t asked for!”
“But… haven’t the servants been a bit lacking lately? So, we’ve recruited some new ones. They’re going to attend to you from now on, so I thought it was proper to introduce them.”
Rosalyn remained silent for a moment.
No matter how much she avoided people and stayed inside her room, she couldn’t escape her personal maids.
Someone still had to prepare her meals, wash her, organize her clothes, and clean the room.
The maids tried to work as quickly as possible, but Rosalyn couldn’t endure even that brief moment of discomfort.
She often reacted angrily when any little thing displeased her.
It was common for her servants to either be terrified or leave out of frustration from the treatment they received.
“Tell them to come in.”
After a long pause, Rosalyn grumbled tersely.
The tightly shut door slowly opened, and two women entered the room.
They were dressed in the elegant and refined attire of Branford house’s personal maids.
They slightly bowed their heads towards Rosalyn.
“Hello, I’m Belinda.”
“I’m Wendy. Please take care of us.”
As Rosalyn slowly examined their faces, her expression soured.
“What is going on here?”
They were clearly the same girls who were once with the doctor.
But to suddenly appear as new servants was beyond brazen.
“Are you playing games with me? Do you both want to die?”
Rosalyn gritted her teeth and stood up, but Belinda didn’t wipe the smile from her face.
“I’ll attend to you with utmost dedication from today. I have plenty of experience in this sort of work.”
“Attend to what, exactly?”
“I’ll start with the treatment now. Please prepare yourself mentally.”
“What? Who decided that…”
Before Rosalyn could finish her sentence, Belinda and Wendy moved in like lightning.
