Chapter 225
* * *
After the east-west partition took on a different meaning in this history, a peculiar state of tension flowed between Communist Germany and the Russian Republic.
And when the Danube invasion by Communist Germany occurred, it automatically became a state of war.
However, Communist Germany committed itself only to defense while attacking the Danube, and Russia wasted as much time as possible preparing, making it essentially a fake war. But now, the situation has changed.
The White Army established the “White Flood Operation” with the intention of coloring all of Europe in white and immediately implemented it.
The attack against Communist Germany has begun.
The hastily organized Kingdom of Poland Army and German Empire Army coordinated their efforts, and before the Russian White Army pushed into western Poland, a devastating bombardment was launched on the western Polish front.
The medium bombers STB-1~3 developed through the Veloe Project bombed major cities like Warsaw, Krakow, Lviv, Ternopil, and Lublin in the Polish People’s Republic, a puppet state of Communist Germany.
“Those guys were no match for us even during the Great War!”
“Those Russians have no chance!”
In response, the German and Polish People’s air forces, having only seen Russian bombers, took off to engage them, but like bees swarming out of a beehive, first-class fighters separated from the bombers and fought against the German and Polish Red Air Force.
In addition, unlike in real history, the P-39 fighters developed in Russia faced off against the Red Air Force.
And, regrettably,
Just like in the aerial battles of the Spanish Civil War, the Red Air Force couldn’t defeat us.
It was rather easy for our fighters to keep close and down the German Air Forcefighters.
Among them, the jets were something the Communist Germans could not handle at all.
It’s not that the Reds in Germany haven’t made any advancements.
It’s just that we have made incredible strides.
As I received reports from headquarters, I couldn’t help but grin.
I truly worried about what might happen in the event a hardcore Communist and a kickass weapons developer emerged in Communist Germany and ended up taking us out.
“Your Majesty, we hold air superiority. Those Red air forces didn’t dare to engage with our air forces.”
“Yes. It seems those scoundrels were so flustered they scattered like flies!”
As I leaned back with my arms crossed while hearing reports from headquarters, I couldn’t help but wish we could have a bit more fun with this war. Right. There’s a project I’m planning.
“Hmm, I really want to toy with the enemy a bit more.”
“Isn’t the plan to mess with them scheduled for early next year?”
That’s right.
What I’m alluding to is the unfinished flying wing.
While not terrible in performance, it’s being developed by the designers who were making fighters under Igor Sikorsky.
I don’t expect perfect performance.
Properly usable flying wings won’t be available for quite a while anyway.
As I’ve always said, even just toying with them is enough.
It showcases the overwhelming difference in technology.
Even now, in addition to bombing runs, rockets that Communist Germany couldn’t even imagine were ruthlessly pounding the cities of western Poland.
Destroying western Poland was also beneficial for us.
Doing so would mean the devastated Poles would have no choice but to depend on Russia in the future, thus naturally incorporating them into the Kingdom of Poland.
Since they had already been beaten by the Communist German army, what could they say if Russia came to liberate them?
“What kind of weapons have those crazy Russians created!”
“The planes don’t even have propellers!”
While the German army was flustered, the Russian White Armored Wave began.
Along the entire border.
“Our mother Tsarina fights alongside us! We shall kill all the Communist Reds to honor our mother Tsarina! Long live the Russian Republic!”
The T-34 and T-35. Unlike in real history, these tanks, which I’m not particularly knowledgeable about, seem like they might be the equivalent of the T-34-85 from original history based solely on their main armament.
In any case, our White Flood Operation caused the armored wave to pummel the Communist German forces, starting from the borders with East Prussia and Poland.
Strategy? There’s no point in formulating one.
An overwhelming difference in weaponry and numbers. Strategizing in the face of that is foolish.
It was simply a brute force charge—an attack that newbies in strategy simulation games would try without much coordination.
That alone was enough for the Tsar’s heirs to charge their tanks toward the German army.
“What the hell, there are so many tanks!”
“Ah, this is what they call the wave of steel.”
“What’s the French People’s Army doing? Hurry up and help!”
The infantry fighting vehicles followed behind the armored division, and White Army infantry destroyed the attacking Communist German tanks with RPGs.
Thud!
“Long live Mother Tsarina!”
As we worshiped in surprise, akin to Hail Goebbels,
Now, the RPGs of the United States resemble the Panzerfaust of Nazi Germany in original history, or something akin to the Soviet RPG, I suppose.
I might not be privy to the details as I only receive reports, but it seems quite impressive.
Now, since the White Army generals wouldn’t lie to me, the war against Communist Germany seems to be going smoothly.
“Then, is it possible to completely retake western Poland?”
“Yes. We will complete the occupation within a few weeks.”
A few weeks? How long could that possibly take?
Though I may not know much about wartime affairs, the reports that come my way are all victorious messages. Just from that, wouldn’t it seem we could occupy it soon?
Western Poland isn’t that large. Does it really take that long to occupy?
Or could it be that the Polish People’s Army is fighting to the last alongside the Communist German forces?
No, that shouldn’t be the case. Something like a puppet army wouldn’t stand a chance against us.
So what could it be then?
“Is it taking a bit long? I would’ve thought the main front would progress more quickly as the Sudetenland.”
“For them, aren’t we ultimately the last enemy? Many troops from the French Commune have come out to stop our Russia.”
Ah, it really is the French Commune, huh.
Then, using a human wave tactic would be challenging. Humorous to think about especially given the joke of a tactic that it is in front of Russia.
“So you mean it’s taking time to defeat them?”
“Yes. But even though the French army is massive, the current situation favors us. Their production capacity cannot possibly best ours. Once we finish with the Polish region, we can rescue the Danube Federation.”
I see then. Truly, calling them the China of Europe—
Still, France had invested in its armies, and originally, calling upon France’s forces isn’t as easy as it is for Britain.
In this world too, the reason Britain allied with France was because it covets France’s army.
Their military power has now come out to stop Russia.
Then that means the Communist German army is relatively scarce here.
Did Goebbels fill the main fronts with the French People’s Army thinking that using the French Commune against the Danube Federation would cause dissatisfaction?
In short, Goebbels’s plan is to breach the Danube Federation and turn his army back to stop Russia.
That’s probably the scenario.
Still, it’s better to hasten the plan.
“You must hurry as much as possible. Though Hitler is holding the line, it’s been months since the invasion of the Danube Federation began. The borders will likely crumble soon.”
We’ve held out well thus far, but the information received indicates that the Sudetenland front is in danger.
It is said that all the Communist German bombers have been dispatched there.
“Yes, Your Majesty. Those Communist bastards have ceaselessly pummeled the Sudetenland fortress, and I’ll hurry as much as I can.”
By the way, I’m curious.
Who’s the standout figure amongst the armored wave currently performing well? Weren’t Tukhachevsky and Zhukov mentioned earlier?
“Which unit is most active?”
“The Cossack armored division of Pyotr Krasnov.”
Cossack armored division.
An armored division formed from those who volunteered from the Cossack cavalry.
In modern battlefields, cavalry are limited in their effectiveness, hence the Cossacks have transitioned into an armored division.
I’d also like to ride tanks, you know.
I’ve heard that the insides of tanks are quite cramped.
So, should I jump in and fight, just like in the Red-White Civil War?
“What if I try taking a step forward?”
“Your Majesty, that would not do at all.”
It was firmly rejected by Chief of Staff Drozdovsky.
Why though? Honestly, how many victories have been achieved thanks to me.
I thought with Vera Gedroyts now absent, I could do as I please. Who could have imagined Mikhail Drozdovsky would stop me!
Alright, let’s just push ahead. Who knows? They might just agree.
“There was a level of common sense in the civil war, wasn’t there? But that was unexpected. There were times of defense. However, now is different. The weaponry has developed significantly, and the opponent isn’t a weakling like the Bolsheviks.”
True. In this historical context, the Bolsheviks were utterly pathetic.
However, Communist Germany or France isn’t a civil war, and they likely consider themselves elite Reds from their wartime experiences.
“Well, that’s true.”
“If Your Majesty were to directly intervene, the troops would have to look after you, making it more challenging to defeat the Germans and French.”
“Ah, then I guess it can’t be helped.”
Tsk, trampling the enemy with the Tsar’s buff! That would be great, but sadly this is not a game. Right, it can’t be helped.
“And don’t forget, His Imperial Highness Vladimir is also here.”
Oh, right. There’s Vladimir too.
Since both of them are currently present, there’s no need to push forward too much.
But where is Vladimir?
“Where is Vladimir?”
“I believe he is with Commander Mikhail Tukhachevsky.”
“Oh, with Mikhail Tukhachevsky.”
A combination of Tukhachevsky, a giant general of the Soviet army, and the Romanov royalty.
Hmm, this is difficult to imagine. Anyway, it looks like he’s doing well since Tukhachevsky has risen to commander.
I’d rather not put Vladimir through hardships on the battlefield. But it can’t be helped.
Vladimir isn’t my child, and at the very least, he must show he has the qualifications to succeed me among the White Army and the citizens of the United States during World War II.
“To think my duties here amount to nothing more than receiving reports.”
“Your Majesty, just by being here, you give everyone strength.”
Well, being the idol of all, I suppose that makes sense. I consoled myself in such a manner.
Right. I’d worry if we were losing, but given the current overwhelming advantage, is there any need for me to step in?
“Still, we do hold to our air superiority, right?”
“Yes, indeed.”
Then can’t we provide some support right now?
Before our Hitler starts worrying.
After all, I’ve sufficiently served my role as meat shield thus far. It’s about time to ease up a bit.
“Let’s provide some support when we have some leeway, attacking the Poisedeneles from the Communist Germans while stalling for time.”
“Understood, Your Majesty.”
Now, let’s give just a bit more breathing room so that the Danube Federation can survive longer as our meat shield.
We need to catch those Reds and push in right after.
* * *
Danube Federation Sudetenland
Facing the threat of the Red Plague, the constituent nations of the Dual Empire finally came together again, forming a massive levee to block the red tide.
“What nonsense! You’re dead! Disappear! Spirits of the Dual Empire!”
“I’ve never experienced death.”
The united Danube people planned to become the ultimate combined fighting robot federation with overwhelming power to block the red tide.
But.
The Sudetenland found itself in peril, barely holding back the surging red tides as hostilities began.
With Hitler’s tongue-lashing rallying the spirits of the Danube Federation Defense Forces, the main forces were positioned along the borders with Sudetenland and Germany, tirelessly trying to fend off the enemy but—
Boom! Bang!
“Break the stronghold of Austrian imperialists!”
“Let’s liberate the workers of Austria, Czech Republic, and Hungary!”
“Hail Goebbels!”
Those crazy bastards turned out to be even more Reds than expected.
Those Germans and French tainted by the Red Plague rushed to destroy Sudetenland with mad fervor.
They could truly be likened to cockroaches.
Or, more broadly, they resembled a cult-like group.
To think they’d charge in with a human wave tactic, as if they weren’t China or Russia!
Initially, the defense was strong, but as they slowly began to take hits and casualties accumulated, the Danube Defense Forces began to feel frantic.
Thud, thud, thud!
The deafening sounds of explosions and machine-gun fire echoed, vividly signaling the intensity of the battle.
“How many of these mad Red bastards are there coming?!”
“No matter how many we shoot down, it’s never-ending!”
“Let’s hold the line! We must endure until the Russian forces arrive!”
Even though they had received or purchased weapons from Russia, facing the onslaught of the Red Triad was debilitating; they had to resort to the outdated artillery and various small arms they used in World War I to fight desperately.
Fortunately, the fortifications created by Hitler, despite facing some opposition, played their role as a massive levee blocking the red tide, but the Communist German air force was severely pounding them.
As bunkers were destroyed one by one from the bombs, the Danube Defense Forces, manning the bunkers, were buried alive. On the armored front, the Sudetenland was gradually being overwhelmed.
At least some reinforcements from the Balkan states had arrived, allowing them to hold on by a thread.
In light of this predicament, I found myself curious about what Russia had been doing since declaring war not long ago.
“When will those Russians finally arrive?”
“Don’t we have to be dead first before they come?”
Just as the Danube Federation Army was sinking into despair, strange planes appeared from the north.
Though details remained a mystery to the army, the Danube Federation Air Force, which was holding back the Red Air Forces from Germany and France, clearly saw the propeller-less fighters.
Those fighters quickly attacked the enemy planes over the Red Lines.
“Look over there! New planes have appeared!”
“That’s! The Russian Air Force roundel!”
Receiving the news of the Russian Air Force from the air force, the Danube Army suddenly spotted the massive bombers flocking in, filling half the sky.
Those bombers had the current United States Air Force roundel with an A added to the Soviet Union Air Force roundel from the Russian Empire days emblazoned on their wings.
Yes. Russia has finally sent reinforcements!
Cheers erupted among the Danube Federation Defense Forces.
“Great! Let’s wipe out those Red bastards!”
The Russian Air Force began intercepting the enemy fighters over the Red Lines and targeted bombers while, on the other hand, the Russian Veloe bombers, escorted by smaller aircraft, opened their bomb bays and generously unleashed munitions on the encroaching Red tide.
And that’s not all.
“Resources are pouring in from the Russian United States via railways!”
Through a Russian version of Lend-Lease, the railway delivered weapons to the Danube Defense Forces, firmly sealing away the weapons from World War I into storage.
“We’re alive!”
“We can’t lose to those Russians! Let’s block the red tide!”
Empowered by the support from the Russian Army, the Danube Defense Forces began their cosmic defense against the armies of the Red Lines once again.
