Chapter 207
Chapter Twelve: Disaster Beasts
That being said, the Adventurers’ Guild in Yanilo City has some seriously low-quality members; if this were the United Kingdom, even if legends did show up, there’s no way they could create such chaos.
To take a step back, someone should have stepped in to stop it by now.
“Can we say this is typical of the Wasteland…?”
Miss Vilyric chuckled bitterly.
Although these folks were too intimidated by the “Legend” to come up and talk directly, they formed layers around a few girls, chattering excitedly as if they were watching some rare animal.
They might not have meant any harm, just being curious, but for Vilyric and the others, it was a major inconvenience.
“Tch, Master, do you want me to knock this swarm of flies away?”
The temperamental Giant Dragon clenched her fists, cracking them audibly, and Vilyric estimated that with just one command, the Adventurers’ Guild in Yanilo City could be reduced to ruins…
The instigator of all this — the Cat Daughter lost in the crowd — had already been so frightened by the scene that she was at a loss for what to do; relying on her was likely useless.
“Not to that extent, but still… this situation…”
If they were the enemy, it might have made things easier, but Vilyric wasn’t vicious enough to resort to violence over a little nuisance.
“Forget it, first…”
“What the hell’s going on! Get back to what you’re supposed to be doing!”
Suddenly, a wild shout echoed through the place, instantly silencing the noisy hall. Everyone turned towards the source of the voice.
“Run, run… the President is coming…”
Upon recognizing the approaching figure, they dared not linger any longer, and the crowd—originally gathered to gawk—started to disperse like startled birds, leaving only a few brave souls watching from a distance.
This was no big deal, but… the President…
Dismissing the onlookers, striding out of the inner hall was a Half-beast.
Like the little Cat Daughter, he had triangular, fuzzy yellow ears and a long tail, but compared to a cat, this guy looked more like a Tiger-Human from the Beast Kingdom.
The president of the Adventurers’ Guild in Yanilo City wasn’t even a proper human?
His ability to ascend to this position as a Half-beast in a country with a certain level of racial discrimination speaks to his exceptional prowess.
The mixed-blood Tiger-Man glanced at Vilyric, who was slightly curious, and the girls behind her, gave a simple nod, and then went to the corner where the poor little Cat Daughter was trembling and about to cry.
The guild’s internal members rushed back to their posts as soon as the man appeared, moving with rapid speed as if recalling some joyful memories.
“What’s going on, Mier?”
“Woo… I’m sorry, Brother Edgar, I caused trouble again. At a time like this, I’ve made things difficult for you…”
With a gentle touch that didn’t match his imposing stature, the mixed-blood Tiger-Man wiped away the tears at the corner of the Cat Daughter’s eyes, tussling her floppy black ears playfully and smiling to comfort her.
“It’s okay, big brother’s here; leave it to me. I heard those guys mentioning something about a legend?”
At his words, the dazed Cat Daughter finally reacted, immediately exclaiming, “Oh no!”
“Right, right! Brother Edgar, we have some distinguished guests! This one…”
“Alright, no time to waste; I’ll explain. Here’s the deal…”
Vilyric stepped forward, simply explaining their reason for coming to Yanilo City and the events that led to the chaos.
Of course, the Priestess wouldn’t mention that she was tricked by some princess.
“You guys… want to hunt [Phantom Cloud]?”
Guild President Edgar narrowed his tiger-like eyes, seemingly recalling some unsavory past, and after a moment, he shook his head helplessly.
“Don’t blame me for speaking harshly; even if one of you leads, and you all are strong, you won’t be able to deal with [Phantom Cloud]. It’s not a matter of being able to fight or not, but…”
When he got to this point, Edgar seemed hesitant, not continuing down that path and switching gears immediately.
“In short, if a legendary figure wants to take on a quest, Yanilo would certainly welcome them, but we will not assist in something like seeking death against [Phantom Cloud]. Young folks, you need to know your limits.”
“I have things to do, so I shall take my leave. If you need anything, just talk to Mier; she’ll give you the best treatment.”
As if in a hurry, the tall mixed-blood Tiger-Man turned and left, while Vilyric didn’t try to keep this evidently knowledgeable figure.
The Priestess understood very well that some things couldn’t be simplified in just a few words, especially when it came to capable experts like Edgar, who were hard to persuade.
Forcing someone to stay would only create resentment.
“I wonder, did that President just get angry? I felt like he had a bit of a gloomy expression when he walked away…”
Edwina whispered nearby, and the sisters Leila and Renée nodded in agreement; they all sensed the previous change in atmosphere, with only the Little Dragon Daughter appearing completely unconcerned.
“Sorry about that, ladies. Brother Edgar is actually very nice… but once the topic of [Southern Disaster] comes up, he becomes very tight-lipped. Also, the guild just had a bit of a situation…”
The little Cat Daughter named Mier smiled awkwardly.
“So, do you want to look at the quests?”
Of course, they wanted to look; this was, after all, one of the reasons Vilyric had come.
“Absolutely, thank you.”
“No, no! It’s my honor to serve legendary figures!”
Excitedly waving her hands, the little Cat Daughter presented a thick book filled with the unfinished quest logs for Yanilo City.
As a legendary-level adventurer, what Mier produced was naturally top-notch; this should be their internal records containing detailed information.
Vilyric flipped straight to the highest difficulty section and browsed through it for a while.
To be honest, there were quite a few tasks in Yanilo City, and many high-difficulty quests piled up, likely due to a lack of sufficient high-level adventurers to handle them. While many looked quite interesting, what really piqued the Priestess’s interest was…
“Mier, what does [Disaster Beast Cleanup] mean? I see the reward is quite high, why has no one been willing to accept it for a long time?”
“Eh? Disaster Beasts?”
The little Cat Daughter flapped her ears and nodded in awe.
“Just as you’d expect from a legendary figure, Miss Vilyric has a keen eye. You may have just come from outside and aren’t quite aware, but actually, [Disaster Beasts] are creatures closely related to [Southern Disaster], or rather, they’re products left behind after natural disasters wreak havoc.”
“According to the guild’s records, after the land has been ravaged by [Southern Disaster Phantom Cloud], occasionally some particularly powerful magical beasts survive. These beasts seem to be influenced by the power of [Southern Disaster], becoming violent and mindless, attacking anything or anyone around, which is why they are called [Disaster Beasts].”
“As for why no one wants to hunt them, it’s partly because [Disaster Beasts] are usually quite strong and tough to deal with, and on the other hand…”
Before the little Cat Daughter could finish, several tall, adventurer-dressed men rushed out from the inner hall, boldly shouting in the guild hall!
“Is President Edgar back yet? [Disaster] is about to erupt; unrelated persons, get out of here!!!”
